Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who wrote the Book of Revelation?

Answer: John

The Book of Revelation is the last book of the Bible, and perhaps the most difficult to interpret and understand. It tells of the return of Christ, and the end of "The present system of things". Christians believe that the world is currently going through "The end times", and that salvation is imminent.
2. If an equilateral triangle has two sides both measuring 4 cm, what will be the length of the third side?

Answer: 4 cm

An equilateral triangle is, as its name suggests, an equal sided triangle - so ALL sides will be the same length, and each angle will be 60 degrees. The sum of all the internal angles of a triangle always comes to 180 degrees.
3. Who is reputed to have introduced both the potato and tobacco to England?

Answer: Sir Walter Raleigh

Sir Walter Raleigh was an Elizabethan explorer and scholar. He was a great favourite of Queen Elizabeth I of England. After one of his many explorations, he is reputed to have brought back the potato and tobacco to England.
4. Which King of England was reputedly killed by an arrow in the eye, at the battle of Hastings?

Answer: Harold II

Harold II was the last Anglo-Saxon king of England. He was king for only 9 months in 1066, before being famously killed by an arrow in the eye at the Battle of Hastings, where he tried in vain to fight off the Norman invasion of England, under William the Conqueror.
5. To an artist, which of these colours is the odd one out - red, brown, purple, yellow, blue, green, orange?

Answer: Brown

Red, yellow, and blue, are the primary colours - green, orange, and purple, are the secondary colours, obtained by mixing two primaries. Brown is a mixture of all three primaries, or of two secondaries.
6. In the well known proverb, where do "all roads" lead to?

Answer: Rome

This proverb implies that "All paths or activities lead to the center of things". It is a very old proverb, and is believed to date back to Roman times, as it was certainly true in the days of the Roman Empire, when all the empire's roads radiated out from the capital city, Rome.
7. A quadruped animal has 6 legs.

Answer: False

A quadruped has four legs - from the Latin words for "four" and "foot". Most quadruped animals are mammals, but humans are one of the few mammals that walk on two legs.
8. All around us we see things made of wood. One of the commonest woods we see is pine - pine is classed as a SOFT wood, as opposed to a hardwood.

Answer: true

Pine trees are one of the most important of all tree species, and are used for their timber and wood pulp throughout the world. They grow very quickly in both temperate and tropical regions, - they are classed as softwoods, and will grow in relatively dense stands. Pine "needles" are very acidic when they decay, and this stops the sprouting of competing hardwoods. Pine wood is widely used in carpentry items such as furniture, window frames, panelling and floors.
9. Which sport is often referred to as "the sport of kings"?

Answer: Horse racing

It is true that the royalty of many countries of the world (particularly the British royalty) enjoy the sport of horse racing. Cynics would argue that it is called the sport of kings because only kings can afford it!
10. What does the musical term "adagio" mean?

Answer: Slowly and leisurely

The term "adagio" means the music should be played slowly and leisurely. The term "largo" is similar, but means "slow and expansive". The term "andante" is also very similar, and means "gently moving, but flowing".
