Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Add one letter to the beginning of 'ice' to make a word meaning more than one rodent.

Answer: Mice

'My dog used to enjoy catching mice.'

If you have a pet mouse, you shouldn't feed your mouse cheese. Contrary to belief, cheese is very bad for mice as it can over-heat their bodies. It is much better to feed your mice specific rodent pellets available from your vet or pet stores.
2. Add a letter to the start of 'ice' to make a word meaning more than one die.

Answer: Dice

'Here are the dice, it is your turn.'

You can play board games such as Monopoly or Cluedo using two dice.

Dice can also mean finely chopping vegetables or fruit when you are cooking.
3. Add three letters to the start of 'ice' to make a word meaning a work-place. You might be sent to the headmaster's _____ if you have been naughty in class.

Answer: Office

'His mother went to work every day in an office.'

Many different people work in offices. In clubs (such as charity organisations) the president, secretary and treasurer might be referred to as 'office-bearers'.
4. Add one letter to the start of 'ice' to make a word for creatures also known as nits. (Plural)

Answer: Lice

'The school sent a letter home advising that some of the children had lice in their hair.'

Lice (singular is louse) are small insects that can live hiding in human hair. They prefer clean hair and feed off dead skin and blood. It is not a good idea to share your hair-brush or comb because lice can spread from one person to another.
5. Add two letters to the start of 'ice' to make a word which describes what you might add to a food to make it taste hot.

Answer: Spice

'Don't forget to add that spice to your curry you are making.'

Spices can be made from bark, seeds or even fruits of a plant in different ways.
6. Add three letters to the start of 'ice' to make a word meaning to observe something.

Answer: Notice

'He noticed that his mother was wearing her new hat.'

Schools and offices often have notice boards up to advise of important things people need to know such as events coming up or if they have lost or found something.

Thanks to richicago for correcting my grammatical mistake.
7. Add one letter to the start of 'ice' to make a word describing a failing or bad habit in a person.

Answer: Vice

'My vice is that I read too much when I am meant to be doing something else.'

According to the Catholic Church, the seven deadly vices (or sins) are Pride/Vanity, Lust, Avarice/Greed, Wrath/Anger, Gluttony/Greed, Envy/Jealousy and Sloth/Laziness.
8. Add three letters to the start of 'ice' to make a word meaning to lure or tempt.

Answer: Entice

'He enticed her with a box of fine chocolates.'

If you were coaxing someone into doing something you could be enticing them.
9. Add two letters to the start of 'ice' to make a word meaning two times.

Answer: Twice

'It happened not once, but twice!'

If you had 'twice-baked potatoes' they would be potatos cooked whole, then the flesh is scooped out, mashed with ingredients such as cheese, sour cream, and/or herbs, then put back in the oven to finish cooking.
10. Add one letter to the start of 'ice' to make a word meaning a grain which is a major food item throughout the world.

Answer: Rice

'Make sure you use that medium-grain rice for your risotto'.

After corn (maize), rice is the second most abundant food crop in the world.
