Thomas the Tank Engine is a small blue steam locomotive in "The Railway Series" written by the Reverend Wilbert Awdry and his son Chris Awdry. Thomas first appeared in the series in 1946 in the second book. The older and wiser engine Edward did not have a number on his side until book 6 of the "Railway Series." Children know Edward as the blue #2 locomotive engine in the hit children's television show "Thomas & Friends" that first appeared in 1991. Edward is based on a 4-4-0 locomotive.

Thunderbird 3 is a red space rocket that is piloted by Alan or John Tracy. Its primary purpose is to ferry people and supplies to Thunderbird 5 which is the International Rescue Space Station. "Thunderbirds" ran for two seasons in 1965 and 1966 and used puppets to tell the story of the International Rescue team led by Jeff Tracy and his five sons.
