Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Instead of getting ready for school, my children are watching an animated show featuring such people as Elvis Criddington, Penny Morris and Norman Price. What are they watching?

Answer: Fireman Sam

Fireman Sam is a member of the Fire Brigade based in the Welsh village of Pontypandy. Elvis Criddington and Penny Morris are other members of the fire-fighting team, while Norman Price is a mischievous boy. The TV show originally ran from 1985 to 1994, but was revived in 2008.
2. Instead of playing outside, my children are watching a programme featuring characters such as Miss Hoolie, Josie Jump, PC Plum and Archie. What show is this, named after the fictional village in which it is set?

Answer: Balamory

Balamory is a Scottish village (in reality Tobermory on the Isle of Mull). Miss Hoolie is a nursery teacher, Josie Jump is a fitness instructor, PC Plum is a policeman, and Archie is an inventor. Other characters include Suzie Sweet and Penny Pocket, who run the local shop. The shows were originally made between 2002 and 2005, and are regularly repeated.
3. Instead of eating their tea, my children are watching a show about characters with the strange names of Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po. What are they watching this time?

Answer: Teletubbies

"Teletubbies" is a popular show aimed at pre-school children, and 365 episodes were made between 1997 and 2001. Each of the four characters is a different colour and has a different-shaped television aerial sticking out of his or her head. They live in a grass-covered house, eat Tubby Toast and Tubby Custard, and are looked after by a vacuum cleaner named Noo-noo.
4. Instead of getting ready for bed, my children are watching a show about four children named Bella, Milo, Fizz and Jake. What show is this?

Answer: The Tweenies

"The Tweenies" is set in a pre-school nursery which is attended by four children - Bella, Milo, Fizz and Jake. Two adults, named Max and Judy, run the nursery, which also has two dogs (Doodles and Izzles). 390 episodes of the show were produced between 1999 and 2003.
5. Instead of tidying their room, my children are watching a show about three characters named Igglepiggle, Upsy Daisy, and Makka Pakka. What are they watching now?

Answer: In the Night Garden

Made by the same team who created "Teletubbies", the original run of "In The Night Garden" was from 2007-2010, although it is regularly repeated on the BBC's "Cbeebies" channel. Like "Teletubbies", it is a mostly live-action show with the main characters played by actors in costume. Other characters which turn up from time to time include Tombiloos, Haahoos and Tittifers.
6. Instead of doing their homework, my children are watching a programme with characters such as a dog named Bitzer, a sheep named Timmy and a farmer whose name is never given. What show is this?

Answer: Shaun the Sheep

"Shaun the Sheep" is an animated show made by Aardman Animations, and features as its main character Shaun, who first appeared in the Wallace and Gromit film "A Close Shave". Like all Aardman shows, it is far too good to be watched just by children.
7. Instead of doing their homework, my children are watching a show featuring characters such as Granny Dryden, Mrs Goggins, and a black-and-white cat named Jess. What show is this?

Answer: Postman Pat

Postman Pat works in and around the village of Greendale, and drives around in his red van delivering letters, accompanied by his cat, Jess. The show was first broadcast in 1981, and has become one of the longest-running and most popular children's television show made by the BBC.
8. Instead of having an afternoon nap, my children are watching an animated show about a family of animals. The main characters are a mother and father pig, a boy pig named George, and a girl pig who gives her name to the show. What programme is this?

Answer: Peppa Pig

Peppa Pig was first broadcast in 2004, and over 200 five-minute episodes have been made. Other pig characters include two grandparents and an uncle and aunt (plus two cousins). There is a large and diverse supporting cast of other animal characters, including rabbits, sheep, cats, zebras and elephants.
9. Instead of reading a book, my children are watching a show which features a number of talking vehicles including a bulldozer named Muck, a concrete mixer named Dizzy, and a crane named Lofty. What are they watching this time?

Answer: Bob the Builder

Another hugely popular BBC children's programme, "Bob the Builder" was first broadcast in 1998. Bob is the main human character, along with his business partner Wendy, and is assisted in his work by a number of mechanical construction vehicles. His catchphrase is "Can we fix it?", to which the response is usually "Yes we can!"
10. Instead of brushing their teeth, my children are watching a live-action TV programme about two men named Paul and Barry. What show is this?

Answer: Chucklevision

Paul and Barry are played by real-life brothers Paul and Barry Elliott, who have a comedy double-act known as the Chuckle Brothers. They regularly perform throughout the UK as a live act, although they are probably best known for this long-running children's television show, of which nearly 300 episodes were made between 1987 and 2009.
