Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of Harry's guardians had no magical siblings?

Answer: Uncle Vernon

Vernon's only sibling, his sister Marge, was a Muggle, therefore was not magical. Petunia sister's, Lily (Harry's mother) was magical, even though she came from a family of Muggles. Despite this, Petunia was not fond of her sister or of wizards. It was not explicitly stated why, but it was most likely because her parents favored Lily over Petunia.
2. What was the only book in which Harry stayed with the Dursleys until September 1, the day on which he headed to Hogwarts?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

The first book, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone", was the only book where Harry stays with the Dursleys. They were the ones that took Harry to King's Cross so Harry could get on the Hogwarts Express. In all other books, Harry left the Dursleys anywhere between two weeks and six weeks prior to the start of term.

The earliest he left the Dursleys was in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince", when left the Dursleys with six weeks left until term began.
3. Which of these was a non-magical staff member of Hogwarts?

Answer: Filch

Argus Filch was a staff member of Hogwarts, but he did not have any magic himself. Filch was considered a Squib, a Muggle who was born to magical parents. Filch was the caretaker of Hogwarts and didn't appreciate having to clean up after the students.

He had a special hatred for Peeves, the poltergeist who went around creating messes. Filch also owned a cat named Mrs. Norris, and it seemed like wherever the cat was, Filch was sure to be nearby.
4. Why did the Masons visit the Dursleys in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets"?

Answer: Vernon was going to get them to place an order for drills.

Vernon worked at a drill company named Grunnings. He had invited the Masons over with hopes that he could get them to place an order for drills. Harry was to stay in his room during the meeting. However, in his room, Harry encountered a house-elf named Dobby who warned Harry not to return to Hogwarts.

When Harry refused, Dobby left the room, went into the kitchen, and used magic to drop pudding (which Petunia had prepared for the meeting) on the floor. Later, an owl from the wizarding world flew into the Dursleys' house.

This was what caused the Masons to leave and Vernon to lose the deal.
5. Where did Harry and the Dursleys go for Dudley's birthday in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone"?

Answer: zoo

Every year on Dudley's birthday, Vernon and Petunia took him and one of his friends somewhere. For Dudley's eleventh birthday, he went to the zoo. In previous years, Dudley went to the movies or the amusement park. Normally, Harry stayed behind at Mrs. Figg's house, but this particular year she broke her leg. With no option available, Vernon and Petunia took Harry along with Dudley and his friend, Piers Polkiss.

When visiting reptiles, Harry inadvertently performed magic by making the glass disappear.

The snake escaped from its cage and left the zoo. Although Harry couldn't explain how this happened, Vernon punished him.
6. Who of the following tried sending mail to Harry the Muggle way?

Answer: Mrs. Weasley

In "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", Mrs. Weasley invited Harry to the Quidditch World Cup. She sent a letter to the Dursleys asking for permission to take Harry. However, she was unaccustomed to using the Muggle mail, so she put lots of stamps on the envelope. The only space that lacked stamps was where she put the mailing address. The postman was curious about this and asked Vernon about it personally, but Vernon brushed it of.

In the note, Mrs. Weasley asked that the reply be sent the "normal way", as in with owls, which is what is normal for wizards. She wasn't even sure that the Muggle postman would know where she lived. Vernon gave his permission and Harry wrote the reply.
7. Why did the Dursleys have to leave their home in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"?

Answer: They were being protected from Voldemort.

To protect the Dursleys from Voldemort, a witch named Hestia Jones took the Dursleys to a safe place until Voldemort's threat was over. It's unclear whether Voldemort planned to kill the Dursleys or use them as bait to lure Harry to him. Vernon was initially unsure but reluctantly went along with the plan, as did Petunia and Dudley. He thought it was a ploy from Harry to own the house, but Harry convinced him otherwise.

Likewise, Hermione's parents, who were also Muggles, had to go into hiding. Hermione used a memory charm on them to believe they were a pair of childless parents named Wendell and Monica Wilkins who were currently living in Australia.
8. Who never came to take Harry away from the Dursleys?

Answer: Fudge

Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic, never took Harry away from the Dursleys, although he did meet Harry prior to the start of term in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" and "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix". Dumbledore took Harry away in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". Ron came (along with some of his family members) in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" and "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". Moody was one of several people who made up the Advance Guard, who came to rescue Harry from the Dursleys in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix".

He was also one of several wizards to take Harry away in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows".
9. Sirius Black was on the Muggle news, but he wasn't identified as being a wizard.

Answer: True

Sirius Black was a supposed murderer who had escaped from Azkaban, the wizard prison. Cornelius Fudge believed that, since Sirius was a threat to Muggles as well as wizards, Muggles ought to be aware of this as well. However, certain details were left out, such as the fact that Sirius was a wizard.

In reality, even though Sirius Black did escape from Azkaban, he was not a murderer. The real culprit of that crime was Peter Pettigrew, a childhood friend of his (along with Remus Lupin and James Potter). Sirius was never caught, and his name was cleared sometime after his death at the hands of his cousin, Bellatrix Lestrange.
10. A Mudblood is a term used to refer to a Muggle with at least one wizard parent.

Answer: False

A Mudblood was a foul term used to refer to a witch or wizard who had two Muggle parents. Harry's mother, Lily, and his best friend, Hermione Granger, were two examples of Mudbloods. However, the more appropriate term was Muggle-born, a less offensive term. Several pureblood (witch or wizard with magical ancestors) wizards hated Muggle-borns and thought of them as no different than Muggles or anybody who wasn't a pureblood.
