Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which one of these is NOT often pink?

Answer: Grass

Normally, grass is not pink. Grass is green!

Gum and cotton candy are two treats which are pink. They come in other colors, too, but pink is common.

The Disney princess Aurora/Sleeping Beauty/Briar Rose wears a pink dress. Her dress and cotton candy have something in common: they both are usually pink or blue.

Aurora is and always has been my favorite Disney princess! :)
2. Of the ones listed, what kind of ice cream is usually pink?

Answer: Strawberry

Strawberry ice cream is pink! Strawberries are a type of fruit and they are usually red, but strawberry ice cream is usually pink.
Vanilla ice cream is white, chocolate ice cream is brown, and mint ice cream is green.

The reason why strawberry ice cream has a bright pink shade is because of food coloring. When strawberry ice cream is fresh or newly made, it has a light pink to even white color. The more food coloring you add to anything, the deeper the color of the food will be.

Did you know? Cherry, watermelon, and raspberry can be flavors of ice cream too. They can be pink, though deeper pinks to reds or even purples are more common than the pink shade of strawberry ice cream.
3. Which one of these shades of pink shares its name with a flower?

Answer: Rose

The correct answer is rose! The rose flower comes in a variety of colors, not just pink, but there is a shade of pink called "rose."

Wikipedia states: "Rose is the color halfway between red and magenta on the HSV color wheel, also known as the RGB color wheel, on which it is at hue angle of 330 degrees."
So, in other words, I think they're trying to say that it is a reddish-magenta color. "Magenta" itself is kind of like a mixture of pink and purple. Rose can range from light to dark. One darker shade is called "dusty rose."

"Blush" is often shown as a very pale (light) pink, but it truthfully can be darker shades as well. It is described as a bright reddish-purple. It shares its name with a type of makeup.

"Tango" is pinkish-orange. It shares its name with a style of dance.

Another pale pink, "baby pink" gets its name from the fact that pink, especially its lighter shades, has been used as the color for baby girls in Western culture. Likewise, there is a "baby blue" for boys.

Did you know? The word for "pink" in the French language is "rose"!
4. Out of the following, you have a higher chance of getting which one from an illness/infection?

Answer: Pink eye

Conjunctivitis, also known by the simpler title "pink eye," is an:

"inflammation of the thin, clear covering of the white of the eye and the inside of the eyelids (conjunctiva)....Conjunctivitis can have several causes...but many eye doctors use the term 'pink eye' to refer only to viral conjunctivitis, a highly contagious infection caused by a variety of viruses...Viral conjunctivitis: Caused by a virus, like the common cold. This type of pink eye is very contagious, but usually will clear up on its own within several days without medical treatment."
Quotes from allaboutvision.com

Having pink lips is not caused from infection. Many people have naturally pinkish lips (I do as well). People, women especially, may also use lipstick or lip gloss to add colors to their lips, including shades of pink. I have used pink lipstick and lip gloss several times.

If you have a pink car, it's probably because you spent thousands of dollars to have it painted that way! ;)

If you have pink hair, it's probably because you dyed your hair that way, or you are wearing a pink wig.

I must say, as much as I love pink things, I draw the line at pink hair. I personally would never purposely dye my hair pink, or any other unnatural hair color. Still, I would rather have pink hair than pink eye!
5. Which is NOT a shade of pink for Crayola crayons?

Answer: Copper Penny

Copper Penny is the correct answer. Copper pennies aren't pink and this color is supposed to represent the reddish-brown color of copper pennies.

I wish I could include a photo of "Princess Perfume." But trust me when I say that this shade of pink really does represent princesses, perfume, and almost everything else that is considered "girly."
:)

Tulip is yet another pink shade that shares its name with a flower.

Salmon is a shade of pink and there is a type of fish named that, too.

All four of these are colors you can find in Crayola crayon boxes. Creating this question made me realize that I haven't done anything with crayons in quite a while...
6. Which of these IS a Crayola crayon shade of pink?

Answer: Mauvelous

Mauvelous is the shade of pink. This can be confused with mauve--which appears to actually be a shade of purple. Shocking? To me it is. I just found out for myself that they apparently aren't the same color.

Anyway, Glossy Grape is definitely a shade of purple. Asparagus is a shade of green and represents the vegetable. Meanwhile, Macaroni and Cheese represents the food and is yellow-orange.
7. Which of these animals is usually shown as pink?

Answer: Pig

The pig is usually shown as pink. Even though real pigs can be pinkish, they also can be brown, black, white, or even orange/red.

The frog is usually shown as green.

The zebra (a horse-like animal) is usually white with black stripes, though when they are babies, they have brown stripes.

The lion is usually shown as a golden color or a yellowish-brown color.

Famous pink pigs include:
Wilbur from "Charlotte's Web." (The novel and movie versions.)
Piglet from Winnie the Pooh shows, books, and movies.
Porky Pig from Warner Bros "Looney Tunes."
8. Colors are commonly used to help celebrate holidays. Along with red, pink is associated with which holiday?

Answer: Valentine's Day

Pink and red are used for Valentine's Day, because both colors represent love. Both red and pink can mean not only romantic love, but also friendship or other forms of love/appreciation. A heart (not the body part) is typically red or pink because of these reasons.

Christmas colors are red and green; red as a symbol for Jesus Christ's blood and green as a symbol for eternal life.

Halloween colors are black and orange; possibly because pumpkins are orange and black is being used as a symbol for scary things/darkness.

St. Patrick's Day uses green; possibly because Ireland is such a green country, and shamrocks are green as well.
9. Which is a shade of pink?

Answer: Carnation

Carnations and lavender are types of flowers. But only carnation is a shade of pink. Lavender is a shade of purple.

Teal is a blue-green color. It does not share its name with a type of flower. Neither does emerald, which is a shade of green.
10. One of these Disney movie characters NEVER wears pink. Who is he/she?

Answer: Prince (from "Cinderella")

The prince from "Cinderella" never wears any pink, at least not in his usual pictures (I did an Internet search) or in the movies (to my knowledge). He wears a lot of red, white, gold and/or black.

Flora is the pink fairy in "Sleeping Beauty". She never wears anything but pink.

Even though Cinderella is usually portrayed wearing light blue and/or white, there is a portion of the movie where she is wearing a pink dress and sometimes you can see her in pink.

Marie from "The Aristocats" wears two pink ribbons.
