Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is recognised throughout most of the world as the flower of love?

Answer: Red rose

Different flowers have different meanings when you give them to somebody as a gift. A daisy means "innocence", an orchid means "delicate beauty" and a red rose means "love", or "I love you". If you give someone a whole bouquet of red roses it means you love them a lot.
2. Who out of the following choices are believed by many to be the most famous fictional lovers of all time?

Answer: Romeo and Juliet

"Romeo and Juliet" was a famous love story which was written many years ago by a British writer called William Shakespeare. It was a tragic tale about a boy and girl who fell in love, but their families hated each other and would not let them marry.
3. What is the name given to the romantic love that an adolescent child feels for the very first time?

Answer: Puppy love

The sweet innocence of puppy love is also known as a crush. Puppy love, or a crush, can be for your best friend's brother or sister, a celebrity on television, a favourite teacher or even a complete stranger you see on a train.
4. What is the universal method of telling a deaf person that you love them?

Answer: Sign language

Deaf people communicate by using hand signals or finger spellings, collectively known as sign language. They can vary around the world, but an American way of telling someone that you love them is on the image shown. It combines the letters I+L+Y for the words "I love you". I = (raised pinkie), L = (make an L with your thumb and forefinger) and Y = (stick out your pinkie and thumb). An alternative method is to sign the three separate words for "I love you".
5. What do people usually do as a way of showing they love each other?

Answer: Kiss

People who are fond of each other often kiss, sometimes on the cheek or lips. It is more affectionate than shaking somebody by the hand or giving them a hug. The only time that complete strangers usually kiss is on New Year's Eve when they party and welcome in the New Year. Kissing is not only for people. If you have a favourite pet, they deserve a hug and kiss as well!
6. Which of these was NOT a mythological god or goddess of love?

Answer: Maleficent

Eros was the Greek god of love, Cupid the Roman god of love, and Freyja the Norse goddess of love. Hathor was the Egyptian equivalent. Maleficent was the wicked witch in the story "Sleeping Beauty" and not a god or goddess of love. If you feel "maleficent", it means you want to harm or hurt somebody which are the complete opposite feelings of love.
7. Which shape is recognised around the world as the symbol for love?

Answer: Heart

The heart was previously thought to be the centre of the body and therefore the place where feelings of love and emotions took root. Old suitors from hundreds of years ago would sometimes offer their heart on a plate to a fair maiden in distress. These are just two of the reasons why the heart is widely used today to symbolise love.
8. "Je t'aime" is the French way for saying what in English?

Answer: I love you

You can say "I love you" in other languages apart from French. These include "ich liebe dich" in German, "ti amo" in Italian, "rwy'n dy garu di" in Welsh, and "szeretlek" in Hungarian. Love is all around us wherever we go in the world.
9. Who is the patron saint of love?

Answer: St Valentine

St Valentine is the patron saint of love, young people and happy marriage. He was a real person who lived in Rome during the third century and it is believed he was jailed after he performed secret weddings which went against Roman rules at the time. Valentine's Day is celebrated in a lot of countries on February 14th each year when gifts of flowers and chocolates are exchanged.

It is considered bad luck to sign your name in a Valentine card!
10. Which Walt Disney animated love story featured the song "So This is Love"?

Answer: Cinderella

"So This is Love" featured in the classic 1950 film, "Cinderella". The fairy tale told of young Cinderella who was forced to slave for her wicked step-mother and two step-sisters. With the help of her fairy godmother, and some magic, she was allowed to go to the ball but only until midnight. It was at the ball that she met and fell in love with the Prince, and they danced in the gardens, singing "So This is Love".

"So this is love, mmmm
So this is love
So this is what makes life divine
I'm all aglow, mmmm
And now I know
The key to all heaven is mine
My heart has wings, mmmm
And I can fly
I'll touch ev'ry star in the sky
So this is the miracle that I've been dreaming of
Mmmm
Mmmm
So this is love"
