Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Geography - I come from Manchester, a city in the northwest of England famous for football and music. What demonym (name for a resident of a locality) are people from Manchester usually regarded as?

Answer: Mancunian

With a population of just over 500,000 inhabitants, Manchester is the 7th most populated city in the UK. Manchester is probably most famously known for being the home of Manchester United football club and Old Trafford is one of the most iconic landmarks in the city, along with Beetham Tower, a 47-storey tower completed in 2006. Manchester is also commonly known for a number of rock bands including The Smiths, Buzzcocks and Oasis.
2. Television - My favourite episode of a famous TV series features a 10 year-old troublemaker creating a comic book phenomenon, entitled "Angry Dad" about his father's anger problems. What is the name of the TV show?

Answer: The Simpsons

No TV show has entertained me as much as 'The Simpsons' and this episode released in 2002 is easily my favourite. After Bart is given a talk by a popular TV cartoonist in his school assembly, he aspires to become a comic book writer, but struggles to find a concept until an episode of Homer's anger gives him an idea.
3. Sports - I don't watch many sports, but the main sport that entertains me is football (soccer). My whole life seems to revolve around it and my favourite team, who play at Stamford Bridge and have created club legends such as Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and Gianfranco Zola. What is the name of this football team?

Answer: Chelsea FC

Most of my life has been spent watching Chelsea FC and they have experienced various ups and downs, including the purchase of the club by Roman Abramovich and the subsequent success that ensued. Two consecutive league titles followed and the holy grail, the UEFA Champions League would be won in May 2012. Didier Drogba scored the winning penalty with his last kick of the ball for the club, before leaving for Shanghai Shenhua.
4. Movies - I grew up with no real interest in movies, but the one movie I would watch over and over again would feature Adam Sandler as a bad hockey player turned golf player who plays to save his grandmother's house. What is the name of this comedy film?

Answer: Happy Gilmore

Released in 1996, 'Happy Gilmore' is still to this day one of my favourite movies. It tells the story of Happy, played by Adam Sandler, a rejected hockey player who turns to golf by chance in order to save his grandmother's house. Comedy and competition ensues as he is challenged by the other competitors in the PGA.
5. Growing up I read quite a lot and one of my favourite authors was Roald Dahl. Which of these books was NOT written by him?

Answer: Where The Wild Things Are

"Where the Wild Things Are" was written by Maurice Sendak. The rest of the options are all iconic novels that I read when I was young. "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" is one of the most famous children's books of all time and has spawned two live-action films based on its plot.
6. Video Games - My favourite game growing up was Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, a game in which you controlled Crash Bandicoot. What is the name of the character who was the main evil antagonist in this game and the character you defeat in the final boss?

Answer: Dr Neo Cortex

There was a strange amount of relief I had with this game upon the completion of each level. Nothing frustrated me more at a young age than being defeated time after time in the fourth boss fight against Dr N Gin.

Dr Neo Cortex is a mad scientist who wants to achieve world domination and he serves as Crash's nemesis not just in this game, but in the rest of the series as well.

The game was released on the PlayStation in 1998, and would later be released on the PlayStation Network in 2007/2008. It is an entertaining platformer. There were five different "warp rooms" which each contained five levels and a boss fight. The goal for each level is to secure a hidden crystal.
7. Entertainment - I grew up watching wrestling and lived through the Ruthless Aggression era in the WWE. An iconic moment was watching Mick Foley getting speared through a flaming table at Wrestlemania 22. Who would deliver the devastating 'spear', a finishing move of the "Rated-R Superstar"?

Answer: Edge

On the 'grandest stage of them all', the Hardcore Icon Mick Foley would face the "Rated-R Superstar" Edge in a hardcore rules match. The match had everything, barbed wire and a flaming table being two key elements to this match. Edge won after hitting the 'Spear' on Mick Foley through a flaming table and that image is still imprinted on my memory even to this day.
8. Music - My favourite band growing up were The Offspring, perhaps most famous for their song "Pretty Fly (For a __________________)". Can you complete the missing word/s?

Answer: White Guy

The song was released on their 1998 studio album "Americana". The lyrics are a satire of American culture and ridicules a "wannabe gangster", who thinks liking rap music would make him get girls. Other famous songs by the Californian punk rock outfit include "Come out and Play", "Self Esteem" and "Hit That".
9. Humanities - I fondly remember winning a spelling bee at primary school, and I can even remember the word that I won it with. Told to a sold out crowd of 50 parents and teachers, what is the correct spelling for the word I won with?

Answer: Onomatopoeia

Onomatopoeia is the imitation of a sound e.g. "Boom" or "Moo".
10. At the latter end of my childhood I found a website that appealed to me greatly, and that website was FunTrivia. Can you tell me what year I registered, a year famous for Gordon Brown becoming the new British prime minister, the release of the final Harry Potter book and the death of Boris Yeltsin?

Answer: 2007

I was searching for some The Simpsons questions one day and I found FunTrivia and the rest was history. In this year, Gordon Brown would become the new British prime minister and would serve until 2010. The Harry Potter series would end as the final book "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" was released and Boris Yeltsin, the first president of the Russian Federation would die of heart failure.
