Answer: He is a headless horseman.

Ewen was the heir to the Maclaine chiefhood. But the father and son began feuding. They both went to battle in 1538 against each other, and the son was beheaded by one of his father's men. From then on, many have witnessed the headless Ewen harvesting the souls of Lochburie.
