Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We will start with a little history. You probably know Caesar Augustus was the first Roman Emperor, but do you know who the fourth Roman Emperor was?

Answer: Claudius

Claudius had an unusual way of finding his way to power. All of his other male relatives had been killed! He was the last one standing because he was thought to be so pathetic that he could not possibly be a threat. Claudius walked with a limp and he was partially deaf so he spent the first part of his life being ostracized by his family. Oh, he also apparently drooled and had a horrible voice.

Despite these potential flaws, Claudius found success as the Emperor. The Roman Empire's borders greatly expanded during his rule and Claudius encouraged work on city infrastructure.

He also personally sat as judge for the citizens and actually tried to get along with the senate. Claudius reigned for 13 years and died at the age of 63. The historians postulate that he was poisoned by his wife Agrippina so that her son Nero could become emperor.
2. Led Zeppelin's untitled fourth album has given rock and roll music several unforgettable songs. Which is NOT a song on the album?

Answer: Immigrant Song

The "Immigrant Song" is on Led Zeppelin's third album. Jimmy Page was a driving force in the band's creation, writing many of their songs, and even producing their albums. "Stairway to Heaven" is one of the most iconic songs in rock history. "Black Dog" is also easy to recognize with Robert Plant's bellowing "Hey, hey mama like the way you move!" While "Rock and Roll" is a tribute to the great rock and roll artists like Chuck Berry.
3. What is the character name of the punishing Soviet boxer who kills Apollo Creed at the beginning of "Rocky IV"?

Answer: Ivan Drago

Ivan Drago was the monster who quickly destroyed Apollo Creed. Played by Dolph Lundgren, who is actually a Swedish actor, the character Ivan Drago is written to showcase athletic Soviet superiority. On the American side, Apollo Creed does everything he can to be obnoxiously American.

The movie epitomizes life in the USA during the 1980s when the fear of the Soviet Union was always lurking in the shadows. Ivan Vanko is one of the villains in "Ironman 2" and Ivan Danko is an Arnold Schwarzenegger character in the film "Red Heat". Of course, Ivan the Terrible was an actual real life Russian and he was well...terrible!
4. Most probably could tell you that hydrogen is the first element on the Periodic Table, but what is the fourth element?

Answer: Beryllium

Beryllium is the fourth element between lithium (number 3) and boron (number 5). Nitrogen is number 7 on the table. The number of protons of an element makes up their element number on the Periodic Table. Interestingly, beryllium is pretty rare in the natural world and is most often found in beryl gemstones like emeralds or rubies.

As a metal, beryllium acts much like aluminum with the exception that it is lighter, stronger, and more brittle. As for human uses, other than gemstones, beryllium is used to make cell phones and missiles. Beryllium dust can be toxic if inhaled.
5. What is the nickname of Peter's annoying two year old brother in Judy Blume's "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing"? Several of the books in the series are named after this mischievous youngster.

Answer: Fudge

Peter Hatcher's two year old little brother Farley Drexel "Fudge" Hatchet gets into everything that Peter does not want him to. Worst of all, Peter believes Fudge never gets in trouble with their parents for all the mischief. In particular, Fudge won't leave Peter's pet turtle, Dribble, alone. In fact, the toddler actually eats the pet turtle! The series of Fudge books are a humorous classic of sibling rivalry and the unfairness of life. Judy Blume has written several books for young adults dealing with many of the struggles and challenges of growing up.
6. You probably know George Washington is the first president of the United States but who was the fourth president?

Answer: James Madison

James Madison was the fourth president of the United States and one of the driving forces behind the creation of the US Constitution. Madison was unhappy with how the Articles of Confederation left the federal government weak. He designed the Virginia Plan which would set up the branches of government with checks and balances.

After the creation of the Constitution, James Madison, John Jay, and Alexander Hamilton wrote the Federalist Papers to encourage states to accept and ratify the Constitution. Almost a year later on June 21st, 1788, New Hampshire became the ninth state to ratify the Constitution making it the law of the land.

Interestingly Virginia, Madison's own state, was not among the critical first nine states. Rhode Island did not actually sign the constitution until over a year into George Washington's presidency and then only due to the threat of being cut out of the union!
7. Which of the following superheroes was NOT one of the Fantastic Four in Marvel Comics?

Answer: Mr. Incredible

Mr. Incredible is the husband of Elastagirl from the movie "The Incredibles". The Fantastic Four hero left out is Mr. Fantastic who had the ability to bend and be flexible like the DC Comics' Plastic Man. Invisible Woman is able to bend light making herself invisible.

The Human Torch could not only shoot fire but also fly. The Thing is big, orange, and very strong. All four of the characters gained their abilities on the same mission where they were hit with cosmic rays. The Fantastic Four were unusual for comic book heroes in that they did not hide their amazing gifts from the world but rather were open about their identities and how they received their super powers.
8. Which of the four major golf tournaments is the only one to be played at the same course every year?

Answer: The Masters

The Masters is always played at the Augusta National Golf Club usually on the second weekend in April each year. The Masters awards a green jacket to the winner each year. The Open Championship is always on one of ten golf links courses in the United Kingdom and is typically the third weekend in July. Links courses are along the coasts so that wind and sand often come into play.

The PGA championship is typically played on Memorial Day weekend and is aimed at top money winners. The U.S. Open is usually played on Father's Day weekend and often tries to make the course punitive against balls that don't land on the fairway. Both the Open and U.S. Open have qualifying tournaments throughout the year so that unknown players can get a chance if they win a qualifier.
9. Most may know that Catherine of Aragon was Henry the VIII's first wife, but who was his fourth?

Answer: Anne of Cleves

Anne of Cleves was an arranged marriage after the death of Jane Seymour and it was by far Henry's least favorite! He compared Anne of Cleves to a horse and refused to consummate the marriage. Anne was able to adjust well to Henry's revulsion and the two actually annulled peacefully six months after being wed and managed to stay friends.

Henry later referred to Anne as "the King's beloved sister" and she was given an estate to live out her life.
10. Let's end on a cheery note with the fourth horseman of the apocalypse! Who rode the pale, fourth horse?

Answer: Death

Death is last in line riding the pale horse and is followed by Hades to gobble up the souls of those Death has killed. The other three riders actually are not given a name in Revelations but are often given a name based on what they do. The first rider is on a white horse and carries a bow and a crown like a mighty king or emperor.

The second rider is often given the title of "War" and he rides a red horse. He has a great sword and encourages men to war with one another. The third rider is often described as "Famine" who rides on a black horse.

The third rider carries a scale in his hands as if he will weigh out the bread allotted during a famine. The Four Horsemen can be found in Revelations 6:1-8.
