Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A popular boy singing quartet called themselves the Four Seasons. Who was the lead singer at their inception?

Answer: Frankie Valli

They first formed in Newark New Jersey in 1960 under the group name The Four Lovers. The original members were Frankie Valli (lead singer), Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito, and Nick Massi. Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons is not to be confused with Antonio Vivaldi and his "Four Seasons".
2. The Bible relates a frightening vision of Four Horsemen in the book of Revelation (a.k.a. The Apocalypse). Four riders are seen on four differently colored horses. What is the universally accepted meaning of the rider on the black horse?

Answer: famine

"When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, 'Come and see!' I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, 'A quart of wheat for a day's wages...'" Revelation 6:5-6 (NIV).

Interpreted meaning that it will cost a day's wages just to feed yourself because food will be so scarce. Imagine having to pay a day's wages for a loaf of bread! The white horseman is generally accepted to mean a symbol for the Antichrist, the rider on the red horse is, of course, symbolic of war.

The pale horseman represents death.
3. Four collegiate football players nicknamed "The Four Horsemen" played on which university's football team?

Answer: Notre Dame

These "Four Horsemen" played football for the 1924 Notre Dame team under legendary coach, Knute Rockne. The men composing this lineup were Jim Crowley, Elmer Leyden, Don Miller and Harry Stuhldreher. They gained their colorful moniker from sportswriter Grantland Rice.

Ancient Greek philosophers believed all matter was composed of four elements - air, earth, fire and water. These designations are also used in astrology. Each zodiac constellation belongs to one of these "elements" (e.g. Aries is a fire sign and Taurus is an earth sign).
6. In the Conan Doyle story "The Sign of (the) Four", Sherlock Holmes is hired by a young woman, Mary Morstan, to help her track down a treasure which is to be her inheritance. What unusual thing happened in regard to Dr. Watson in this story?

Once a year for six years, Miss Morstan received a large pearl from an anonymous sender. Finally her benefactor, Thaddeus Sholto, reveals his identity and requests a meeting. Miss Morstan wisely has Holmes and Watson go with her to the rendezvous. Come to find out, Miss Morstan is the heiress of a treasure which Sholto had amassed, along with her late father and two other men, when they were in the army in India.

They had a tontine-like agreement, but greed kept Sholto from letting her have her full share when her father died six years previously. Now Sholto, the last of the four men alive, is dying and must tell her its location, but he dies before he can reveal it. Now it's up to Holmes to discover where it is. Miss Moran and Watson fall in love and get married.

Answer: Canada

It is generally accepted that these were the first comic heroes created by Stan Lee.
