Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the good old days, you would sit and wait for the boy to call the girl. It was almost never heard of for a girl to call a boy. Nowadays, who calls whom?

Answer: All these are true

Back in the "olden" times, a girl couldn't call a boy. For one thing, you would be considered the laughingstock of the town or worse. Nowadays, the kids text each other. They don't have time to make phone calls. The texts are terrible too. You can get a text like this:

Yo - U & me - 2nite K?

And they call this a date?
2. In the good old days, the girl would be getting all dressed up to look her best. The boy, if he was old enough to drive, would borrow his parent's car and come over and get you. What did he do when he got to your home?

Answer: Got out of the car, rang the doorbell and met your parents.

Yes, the older generation always got out of the car, went up to the door, rang the bell and waited for someone to answer the door. You had to meet mom and dad to make sure that they knew where you were going also. If dad didn't approve, trust me, there would not be a second date.
3. You look stunning in your suit, and your date looks beautiful in her brand new dress. You are heading to the prom back in 1970. Wait, you have a corsage for your beautiful date. Where do you pin the corsage?

Answer: You either pin it on her dress or her mom does the pinning.

This is probably the most embarrassing thing for a boy to do. He's sitting there perspiring, afraid to get "too close" to his date. He's sweating and choking. Pretty soon the mom comes to the rescue and takes the corsage and pin and pins it on her daughter herself.
4. You've taken your date to a really nice restaurant. The bill comes. Who was supposed to pick up the bill in the early '70s?

Answer: The man would usually pay.

Back in the '60s and '70s, it was almost unheard of to have a woman pay even her half of the bill. A gentleman would never allow a woman to even touch the bill. By the way, it's not proper to even look at a bill if you are not planning on paying. Normally the rule is: Whoever picks up the bill to review is the one paying. So keep your fingers to yourself!
5. Your boyfriend picked you up and he's looking at the beautiful dress you're wearing and your nice hairstyle. What would be the proper thing for your boyfriend to say?

Answer: "You look very nice tonight, I really like that dress!"

A girl has probably spent hours getting ready and looks her best for you. Why don't you spend a few moments to notice the attire that she is wearing and compliment her? You'd be surprised that you can attract more bees with honey. Meaning, you'll have a much better evening if you are nicer and more complimentary.
6. You and your girlfriend are sitting down at the table and getting ready to look over the menus. What is the one thing that you SHOULD do while you are eating?

Answer: Chew with your mouth closed

I don't know how many times I've seen people eat and talk at the same time. Chew with your mouth closed. Actually, you could spend a lot more time with your date if you chewed your food and then talked. This way you can think about what you are going to say also. For goodness sakes, the napkins are free, lay one across your lap and feel free to use it several times while you are eating. Last tip - don't burp!
7. You're sitting with your date after you've eaten everything on your plate. Your date has to go to the "ladies room" to freshen up. What should you do?

Answer: Stand up while she is getting up.

We seldom see this anymore, but in the 'olden' days, a gentleman would stand up if the girl had to excuse herself and go to the restroom. A woman would never put lipstick on at the table. She would go to the ladies room and "freshen" up her makeup there.
8. Which is NOT a proper utensil?

Answer: Cracker fork

There are actually a few different types of forks used during your mealtime. The salad fork, the fish fork, and the main course fork. There is a cracker scoop, but not a cracker fork. If you ordered dessert, the waiter will bring you the dessert fork at that time. Nowadays, you see everyone eat with the same fork, regardless which course you are on. Let's remember to try and use a clean utensil for each course. Trust me; you'll impress your date!
9. You have just taken a girl out for the first time. You think the night went really well. Is it okay to ask the girl out again?

Answer: yes

Sure, go for it. Make plans ahead of time. In the good 'ole' days, you would ask your girl out two or three days in advance. But nowadays, it seems like someone can call you up at 5 and tell you they will pick you up in an hour. Please be respectable, make plans ahead of time.

It shows the girl that she is not a "last minute" date. Trust me on this note; she'll be impressed with you for this too!
10. It's the end of the night for your "first date" with this girl. You drive her home and you park in front of her house. What should you do now?

Answer: All of these options

If the moment is right and you feel a little bold, you might give her a small peck on the cheek. Let time takes its course. Years ago, the marriages lasted so long. But nowadays, everyone is in a hurry. Slow down and smell the roses.

To those of us that remember the "good ole days" I hope I brought back some wonderful memories.

To those of you that are young. Enjoy your dates and just have a good time!
