Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following is not a prime number?

Answer: four

Prime numbers are only divisible by one and themselves. A number such as four, which is divisible by one, two, and four, is known as a composite number. All even numbers other than two are composite numbers. The first two odd numbers that are composite are nine and fifteen.
2. Optimus Prime was the leader of the heroic Autobots on "Transformers". When he transformed, which vehicle did he become?

Answer: A cab-over truck

Optimus Prime is capable of separating his cab from the trailer. In one episode he was gravely weakened by a Decepticon attack and another Autobot had to haul the trailer back to headquarters for him. Initially all of the jetplane Tranformers were Decepticons, but eventually Jetplane Autobots were added to the toyline and cartoon. Ratchet--who was the repairman of the Autobots--was the one who transformed into an ambulance.
3. Three grades of beef in the United States are choice, prime, and select. What is their proper ordering from highest to lowest?

Answer: prime, choice, select

Several factors go into the grade of beef including marbling, maturity, and firmness. Marbling refers to the intermingling of lean tissue and fat. Below select is the standard grade.
4. In Christianity, the canonical hours refer to regular periods of prayer. Approximately what time was prime?

Answer: 6:00 AM

Prime is not generally followed now, having been replaced by Lauds at sunrise. Sext takes place at about 12 noon. Vespers is at sunset. Vigil watches take place during the night.
5. The Prime Meridian is the line of 0 degrees longitude. Through which country does the Prime Meridian not pass?

Answer: Portugal

Though the Prime Meridian passes through Spain, it misses Portugal. Other countries through which the Prime Meridian passes include the United Kingdom, Burkina Faso, Togo, and Ghana. No country has both the Equator and Prime Meridian pass through it as that point is in the Atlantic Ocean.
6. If a person is "primigravida", which physical condition is occurring? (I know this stretches "prime" just a bit.)

Answer: The person is pregnant

Specifically, the woman is pregnant for the first time. The term "secundigravida" means the woman is pregnant for the second time. All pregnancies are counted regardless of outcome. A pregnancy with twins or higher multiples still only counts as one pregnancy.
7. Which "rural" themed musical was based on a comic strip and included the song "I'm Past My Prime"?

Answer: Li'l Abner

The 1956 musical included in its cast Edith Adams as Daisy May and Stubby Kaye as Marryin' Sam. The song is a duet between the characters of Daisy Mae and Marryin' Sam.

"I'm past my prime (What a shame)
And I'm losin' time (Guess the old clock's run down)
Seventeen last spring (My, what a wasted life)
Still without a ring (When will you be a wife?)"
8. Who is generally considered the first British Prime Minister?

Answer: Robert Walpole

Robert Walpole is retroactively considered the first Prime Minister as the term was not used during his lifetime. His period as Prime Minister to Kings George I and George II is said to cover about 1721-1742. He spent a significant portion of this time as First Lord of the Treasury and Chancellor of the Exchequer. A Whig, he was first elected to Parliament in 1701.
9. According to the law of that state, which state holds the first US Presidential primary every four years? (Again, this stretches "prime" a bit.)

Answer: New Hampshire

By state law, New Hampshire requires itself to hold its Presidential primary at least seven days before that of any other state. Iowa has the first caucus each Election year. (New Hampshire law doesn't require that its primary is before any caucuses.) Although the earliest primaries occurred in the early 20th century, they began becoming popular after the 1968 Presidential election. South Carolina's primary is often early in the season. California holds one of the last primaries, usually in June.
10. Which Academy Award was won by the movie, "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie"?

Answer: Best Actress

The movie is set at a Scottish girl's school in the 1930s. Maggie Smith won the Best Actress Academy Award for her portrayal of the title character. Rod McKuen's song "Jean" was nominated for the Best Song Academy Award, which it lost to Burt Bacharach and Hal Davis's song, "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on my Head".
