Question 1 of 10
1. A couple of days ago I was at the florist's shop to buy a pot plant for my mother-in-law's upcoming birthday. My mind must have been wandering to the daily challenges I've been doing lately when I asked the florist how many 'credits' that big one in the corner costs. He gave me a funny look indeed. What currency should I have asked for, bearing in mind that I live in Belgium? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. Coming back from the florist I passed a vinyl records store and my eye caught a 'Black Flag' album displayed in the shop window. I've been chasing that badgelet for months so I rushed in to buy that album. What kind of music did I just buy? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. I've been trying for so long to win that 'Crystal Ball' badge that I finally decided to visit a real psychic to tell me which word would be coming up next. When Madame Zelda gazed upon her crystal ball she told me that the next word would be 'nescio'. Well, I could have figured that out myself. And it cost me 50 ... ehm, credits too! What does the Latin word 'nescio' mean? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Recently a colleague proudly told us that he has been training for months to participate in a triathlon. "I've been trying for that one myself too for a while" I replied. Maybe it's because I'm the archetypal couch-potato, but I could have sworn I heard some sniggering behind my back. Then it dawned on me, he was talking about a REAL triathlon of course! What's the distance of the bicycle ride in a long-distance triathlon, such as the Ironman? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. On a boring Sunday afternoon having tea with my mother-in-law she asked me if I would like a 'piece of cake'. "No thanks, I've already got that one", I refused. After she gave my wife her typical I-told-you-you-shouldn't-have-married-him look, she gave me a piece anyway. A delicious piece of sachertorte it was. From which country does sachertorte originate? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. With my car in the garage for maintenance I had to take the bus the next day. When the bus driver asked me for my destination I said "Zimbabwe please". A roar of laughter erupted from the bus and the bus driver gave me a very funny look. Why are they all laughing, Zimbabwe is today's bus ride destination isn't it? Or was it Zambia? Which natural wonder can be admired on the Zimbabwe-Zambian border? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. When I was walking through the streets of my home town my mind was wandering once again. For months I've been trying to solve that treasure hunt, to no avail. Question 8 of 10
8. When a friend told me about a North African country whose flag was completely green I immediately booked me a flight to its capital Tripoli. Yet another badgelet I had to have! Upon arriving I discovered that after the Arab spring revolution the flag was changed to red, black and green bands with a white crescent and star in the middle. Oh well, it wasn't a complete waste of time since I now had the chance to visit Leptis Magna. Which country did I visit? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. What should have been a nice family outing at the children's farm had turned ugly again because of my quiz addiction. When the policeman asked me what on earth possessed me to run amok and chase a bunch of ducks I could only reply "but officer, I could have sworn I saw that 'lucky duck' I've been waiting on for for years". He was not amused, I can tell you that! What breed of duck could I *NOT* have chased that day? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. After the mishap at the children's farm my wife told me I needed help and I should see a psychiatrist. Just as well, I felt like my mind was melting. Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A couple of days ago I was at the florist's shop to buy a pot plant for my mother-in-law's upcoming birthday. What currency should I have asked for, bearing in mind that I live in Belgium?

Answer: Euro

The Euro is the currency of Belgium since it replaced the Belgian Franc in 2002. The Deutsche Mark was the currency of Germany before 2002 and the Guilder the currency of The Netherlands.
2. Coming back from the florist I passed a vinyl records store and my eye caught a 'Black Flag' album displayed in the shop window. I've been chasing that badgelet for months so I rushed in to buy that album. What kind of music did I just buy?

Answer: Punk

Black Flag formed in 1976 and is considered one of the first punk bands. In the ten years they were active they released six studio albums. Over the years the members of the band changed numerous times, with the best known band member Henry Rollins joining in 1981. After Black Flag was disbanded in 1986 Rollins continued as a spoken word artist or toured with the 'Henry Rollins Band'.

Answer: I don't know

'Nescio' means 'I don't know', something I often think when playing Funtrivia. It's also the pseudonym of Dutch writer Jan Hendrik Frederik Grönloh and a song by Dutch band 'The Nits'.

Answer: 112 miles / 180.25 km

A triathlon consists of swimming, cycling and running. Whilst there are many variations and distances the toughest of them all is the annual Ironman triathlon held in Hawaii. The distances in the Ironman are a 2.4 mile / 3.86 km swim, a 112 mile / 180.25 km bicycle ride and a full marathon (26.2 mile / 42.125 km).

Answer: Austria

A sachertorte is a chocolate sponge cake with a thin layer of apricot jam in the middle, coated with a dark chocolate icing. It is usually served with whipped cream. Viennese apprentice confectioner Franz Sacher created it in 1832 for Prince Klemens Wenzel von Metternich, who had ordered something special for a dinner with several important guests. Metternich was chancellor of the Austrian Empire at the time.

Answer: Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls is a waterfall on the Zambezi river which forms part of the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Known as 'the smoke that thunders' by the local population, it was discovered by David Livingston in 1855 who named it after queen Victoria.

Niagara Falls lies on the USA-Canadian border, Iguaçu Falls on the Brazil-Argentine border. Angel Falls lies in Venezuela and is the largest uninterrupted waterfall in the world (976 meter - 3,212 feet).
7. When I was walking through the streets of my home town my mind was wandering once again. For months I've been trying to solve that treasure hunt, to no avail. Then I passed a book store and noticed a book called 'Treasure Island'. Maybe that would give me the clues I was missing. Who is the author of 'Treasure Island'?

Answer: Robert Louis Stevenson

Robert Louis Stevenson (1850 - 1894) was a Scottish writer most famous for his novels 'Treasure Island' and 'Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde'. 'Treasure Island' is a pirate story in which main characters Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver search for Captain Flint's treasure on a Caribbean island.

The three wrong answers are authors too. Daniel Defoe is best known for 'Robinson Crusoe', Jonathan Swift for 'Gulliver's Travels' and Lewis Carroll for 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'.

Answer: Libya

The multicoloured flag was originally introduced when Libya had become independent in 1951. The red refers to the blood that was spilled under Italian fascist rule, the green represents independence and freedom. The black band with crescent and star refers to the banner of the Senussi dynasty from Cyrenaica. The emirate of Cyrenaica was a short-lived country that had unilaterally declared its independence in 1949 and eventually became part of Libya in 1951. The emir of Cyrenaica became the first and only king of Libya, until he was overthrown by a military coup lead by colonel Gaddafi in 1969.

After the coup d'état the original flag was replaced by a red-white-black tricolour; later a golden hawk was added. In 1977 a completely green flag was adopted as the official flag of Libya, at the time the only flag in the world that consisted of only one colour without any symbols. The colour green referred to Gaddafi's political philosophy. After the Gaddafi regime fell as a result of the Libyan civil war the original red-black-green tricolour was reintroduced.

Leptis Magna is one of the best preserved ancient Roman cities, located 130 km (81 mi) east of Libya's capital Tripoli. It was founded by Phoenicians in about 1100 BCE and assimilated into the Roman empire after Carthage's defeat in the Punic wars. Today it is an UNESCO World Heritage Site and Libya's main tourist attraction.
