Lava is spewed out from the crater in a continuously pulsating flow. This volcano was thought to be dormant but in 1968 it erupted. The classification of this volcano is called stratovolcano.

This means that the layers have grown over time from layers of lava, pumice rock, ash and also tephra. Tephra is fragments of material from within the volcano, that are pushed out during an eruption.

This volcano is known to have strombolian eruptions which means low-level.
4. Where in South America will you find the Sangay volcano?

Answer: Ecuador

Sangay is situated in Ecuador. It is an active volcano which is a towering 5,230 meters (17,159 feet) high. In 2009 some ash soared to an astounding height of 25,000ft.

5. Pacaya is an active volcano in which country?

Answer: Guatemala

Pacaya is 2552 meters (8,373 feet) high. It is like a sentinal standing to the south of Guatemala City, Guatemala. In 1965 it erupted with great anger. This volcano had quite an eruption in May, 2010. There was at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) of ash which settled on the airport runway.
An eruption which produces a large column of gas and ash pushing high into the air is called a Plinian eruption. Pacaya is known for this type of eruption which also ejects a lot of pumice.
6. Where is Dukono volcano, which has seven craters, situated?

Answer: Indonesia

Dukono volcano is in Indonesia. It has regular eruptions and lava flows. This volcano is 1185 meters high and has many craters. In 1933 Dukono erupted. Earthquakes and tremors could be felt as far away as 15 km (9 miles). Dukono volcano reaches a height of 1,335 meters (4,380 feet).
There are seven craters on this particular volcano, so any of these can emit its own destructive power.
In 1550 Dukono's eruption measured 3 on what is called the VEI scale (Volcanic Explosivity Index).
7. Where is Tinakula volcano which was seen erupting by Alvaro de Mendana?

Answer: Solomon Islands

Tinakula volcano is in Temotu Province, which is part of the Solomon Islands. It is 851 meters (2,792 feet) high. The crater throws out flaming lava bombs. 10. Where in Africa can you find the Erta Ale volcano?

Answer: Ethiopia

Erta Ale is in Afar, Ethiopia. It's 613 meters (2,011 feet) high. There is an active lava lake on this volcano, which is actually a rare thing with volcanoes.
