Poole Harbour, said to be the second largest natural harbour in the world after Sydney, has been a working port for hundreds of years. The harbour known for its ecology, has many waterfowl wintering on the mudflats. In the harbour is Brownsea Island nature reserve. Scouting began on this island.
2. Which famous person was killed in a motorbike at Clouds Hill in Dorset?

Answer: T.E. Lawrence

T E Lawrence (1888-1935) known as "Lawrence of Arabia", was killed in a motorbike accident near his Clouds Hill home. He was buried at Moreton near by. the National Trust now manage his cottage and it's open to the public.
All the other people were also born in Dorset.
Thomas Hardy 1840 - 1928. Novelist, poet and dramatist
Anthony Blunt Born 1907-1983 - Art historian and Soviet spy
John Le Carre Born 1931 - English novelist

Answer: Wytch Farm near Wareham

The Wytch Farm site was one of the first drilling sites and also produces natural gas. It is situated near Wareham within the Purbeck Hills.
It was discovered 1973 and started producing 1979.

Answer: Monkeys

Monkey World is a sanctuary started to rescue monkeys from all over the world. They come from pet shops, owners or being ill treated in their native countries. Many were being used by photographers for taking their pictures with tourists.

Answer: Thomas Hardy

Thomas was born in Higher Bockhampton near Dorchester in 1840-1928. He used Dorchester for his fictional town of Casterbridge in many of his books.
Here is a bit of trivia about his book 'Far from the Madding Crowd'. A film version was made in 1967 with Julie Christie, Alan Bates and Terence Stamp. A lot of the filming done was done around the area when I was a child.

Portland Stone is quarried on the Isle of Portland and is limestone from the Jurassic period. Portland Stone was used to make all the 1st and 2nd World War soldiers' gravestones.

The Tolpuddle Martyrs (1834) were tried at Dorchester assizes under trumped up charges. There is a museum in Tolpuddle today about them.

James Seale was hanged in Dorset in 1858 at the Dorchester prison gates. He was found guilty for the murder of Sara Guppy.

Scouting was started in 1907 by Lord Baden-Powell.

Corfe Castle has a view over the isle of Purbeck it dates back to the 11th century. 17 year old King Edward was killed there in 975.
In 1212 it held the treasure of King John.
