Well, you know what they say - an eye for an eye."
Hint

Question 3 of 10

I've destroyed so many people in this battle-weary land,
Think of Samuel and his Bulgars who, when I was elsewhere,
Sought to reclaim this Balkan land for his undeserving heir,
They faced me in a battle, where to their surprise, I captured fifteen thousand - and then took out their eyes."

Hint

Best thing to do to - avoid that Union crowd,

And Aton's the name, lord of the sun."
Hint

I'm the boss, I'm in charge so let the fools stare,
I'll need to get married but I swear by my troth, that that's really fine, I'll get pleasure from both,
The English and Scots in this rigid clime will find this Scots king of England is ahead of his time."
Hint

Question 7 of 10

Tho' I'm short and quite hairy and inclined to be stout,
I've outdone that barbarian Attila the Hun,
For thirteenth century conquest I am number one!"
Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. "They killed me, those ingrates - for they could not see?
That this city, it's future was all about me,
They espoused the republic and despised the word king,
So now it would seem that my murder's the thing,
They dream when I'm gone that all will be well,
But there's much worse that's coming and history will tell."
Hint

Question 10 of 10

Victory for me is an absolute must,
When I see opposition I don't wait till later,
That's not the way for an "evil dicator",
The Poles and the Russians, they've all got to go,
Those Anglo-French weaklings some toughness I'll show,
Their soft skinned appeasement shall get them no more,
This Austrian fruit-cake will show them real war."

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "I'm trotting fast down leafy lanes, with tired soldiers and faithful Thanes, One battle won but another coming. Just watch me send those Normans running, They're burning villages, there's smoke in the sky, Well, you know what they say - an eye for an eye."

Answer: Harold II

After winning the Battle at Stamford Bridge against Harold Hadrada, Harold was forced to march to the south east coast in order to face William Duke of Normany. There, at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, he was slain and William became king.
2. "I've lost my horse and I've lost my throne, now I'm surrounded and all alone, Deserted by those whom I put in high place, I die on this field, my name in disgrace."

Answer: Richard III

Richard III was killed at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485. A large part of his army stationed along the crest running behind Ambion Hill at Bosworth Field, under the command of the duke of Northumberland, took no part in the battle at all despite Richard's commands that it should engage the enemy.

It is said that Lord Stanley used his force merely to 'mop-up' the retreating Richardians whilst his brother, stationed at another part of the field, used pikemen to finally finish off Richard's fatal last charge against Henry Tudor.

This could well be true as no single knight or 'worthy' personage claimed to have felled Richard in combat, as they surely would have done, had such been the case.
3. "Im nicknamed Bulgaroctonus and I'm a frightful sort of man, I've destroyed so many people in this battle-weary land, Think of Samuel and his Bulgars who, when I was elsewhere, Sought to reclaim this Balkan land for his undeserving heir, They faced me in a battle, where to their surprise, I captured fifteen thousand - and then took out their eyes."

Answer: Basil II

Basil II (c. 958-1025) was joint emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire. He won an overwhelming victory against the Bulgars in 1014 where he blinded all those captured (more than 15,000) leaving just one hundred and fifty with one eye apiece so that they could guide the rest home. Basil's frightful methods killed his opponent, Samuel the Bulgarian king. Bulgarian resistance continued until 1018 when Basil the Bulgar slayer finally destroyed the first Bulgar kingdom.
4. "I wander lonely as a cloud, Best thing to do to - avoid that Union crowd, The armies fought well and the men were so brave, But look around now, not one single slave!"

Answer: Jefferson Davis

Jefferson Davis (1808-1889) was the president of the CSA 1861-1865. It would seem that he did not much wish to hold the office of president but would have preferred instead to have been offered a field command. He was captured whilst on the run in somewhat embarrassing circumstances and imprisoned.

He was for quite some time treated cruelly and held in chains during a period of his imprisonment and his jailers treated him roughly. He was later released and wrote his memoirs. He outlived many of his contemoraries, including Lincoln and Grant.
5. "So long ago my glory past, Priests confounded me until, at last I removed my people from their tuition To found a new city and better their condition For there can be only one god, a real number one And Aton's the name, lord of the sun."

Answer: Akhnaton

Akhnaton, or Amenhotep IV, was a monotheist and believed that Aton was the one and only God. He was so wrapped up with his reform of religion, art and morals that many consider him responsible for the decay that set into the Egyptian empire at this time.

As a king, reigning 1375-1358BC, it would seem that he was a failure. Taken up with his religious reforms/revolution he neglected almost entirely the essential forms of government which seem to have broken down during the course of his rule.
6. "I'm a king and I'm gay, but do I really care? I'm the boss, I'm in charge so let the fools stare, I'll need to get married but I swear by my troth, that that's really fine, I'll get pleasure from both, The English and Scots in this rigid clime will find this Scots king of England is ahead of his time."

Answer: James VI & I

James VI of Scotland became James I of England and Ireland in 1603 after the death of Queen Elizabeth I by virtue of the fact that he was descended from the elder daughter of Henry VII who had married James IV of Scotland one hundred years before. It is said that he had a substantial sexual appetite and had a preference for males.
7. "The first king of my line, I'm gracious and kind, I've a name like a biscuit but I don't really mind, Famed for my tolerance and my belief in detente Witness my masterpice, the Edict of Nantes

Answer: Henry IV

Henry IV was the first Bourbon king of France and was responsible for the Edict of Nantes (1598) by which the Catholic state of France gave toleration to the Huguenots.
8. "They fear me and tremble at my masterful shout, Tho' I'm short and quite hairy and inclined to be stout, I've outdone that barbarian Attila the Hun, For thirteenth century conquest I am number one!"

Answer: Genghis Khan

Genghis Khan's (1162-1227) conquests were over a huge area. Wherever resistance was offered he was utterly without mercy. However, instant submission practically guaranteed immunity. When he died in 1227 he was lord of an empire larger than any other governed by a single man. His son Ogdai became Great Khan after his death.
9. "They killed me, those ingrates - for they could not see? That this city, it's future was all about me, They espoused the republic and despised the word king, So now it would seem that my murder's the thing, They dream when I'm gone that all will be well, But there's much worse that's coming and history will tell."

Answer: Caesar

Caesar was assassinated in March, 44 BC. Brutus was one of the principal assassins.
10. "I smash 'em, I bash 'em, I crush 'em to dust, Victory for me is an absolute must, When I see opposition I don't wait till later, That's not the way for an "evil dicator", The Poles and the Russians, they've all got to go, Those Anglo-French weaklings some toughness I'll show, Their soft skinned appeasement shall get them no more, This Austrian fruit-cake will show them real war."
