Answer: Arthur Guinness

Though there are some speculation as to where Arthur Guinness was actually born it is believed he was born at Celbridge in County Kildare in or around 1725. Arthur Price was the Church of Ireland Archbishop of Cashel and godfather of Arthur Guinness, so he was "well connected".

When Guinness first started brewing it made an ale but in 1778 they started to sell the dry stout that is now known as Guinness. Today it is known and sold all over the world.

The first brewery outside of Ireland and Great Britain was built in Ikeja in Lagos. The brewery was incorporated in 1962 and since then many Guinness breweries have been built in various parts of the world.

Guinness's first export was to England when six and a half barrels were shipped there ten years after the brewery opened in 1759.

Answer: Sir Hugh Beaver

Sir Hugh Beaver was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1890 and became the managing director of Guinnesses in 1946. It was during a shooting party in Co. Wexford that he became involved in a discussion as to which was Europe's fastest game bird. It was from there that he went on to create the "Guinness Book of Records".

In August 1954 one thousand copies were printed and given away, and a year later, in August 1955 the first published edition went to the top of the British best seller lists.

Guinness's Brewery started brewing at St. James's Gate and became the largest brewery in Ireland in 1838. In 1914 it became the largest brewery in the world covering an area of 64 acres.
