Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The 'Caper'. Is He just a part of the falsely created and concocted story put forth by the Catholics to prosecute the Templars for heresy or was he simply an Anglicised (or Europeanised) version of 'Mohammed'? Or was he was the symbol of 'knowledge'. One thing's for sure, he was the inspiration for the 'devil'. Name the 'god'?

Answer: Baphomet

In the initial accusations, Baphomet was described as an idol with a cat's head. Over the years this has undergone various reformations. The picture (the 'Green Man') at the Rosslyn Chapel is the best indicator (i.e. if it is a picture of Baphomet in the first place). This picture depicts a goat headed man with vines sprouting of his mouth and ears (See Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh, "The Temple and the Lodge").
Well, we now know how the picture of 'Satan' originated. The present day picture of 'Baphomet' was drawn by Eliphas Lévi. This image was later used by Arthur Edward Waite for his devil card in the Rider Waite Tarot.
To most people, Baphomet is the ultimate symbol of all evil. To the others, it is the symbol of learning, curiosity and knowledge. Well, everyone knows how the Church loathes the above traits.
2. The Chapel. For the story-teller telling one of the most successful cryptic tales ever, the journey of the tale ended here. For many, it is not what everyone can see that interests them, but what is below the earth. Is it the Cup or is it Covenant or is it Charred Remains or a Cache so bountiful in nature or its is the Commandments? What lies beneath? How do we better know the 'Collegiate Chapel of St. Matthew'?

Answer: Rosslyn Chapel

The Chapel was built in 1446 by Sir William St. Clair, who was the last prince of Orkney [www.Templarhistory.com]. This chapel is one of the mysterious symbols associated with Templar history and is located in the village of Roslin near Edinburgh. The Chapel finds a mention in the international bestseller "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown.
The Chapel was built between the time of the disbanding of the Templars and the formation of Freemasons.
3. The Chateau. The priest, the artist, the writer, the horse and the Madeleine have ensured that the French response to the Chapel ('Collegiate Chapel of St. Matthew') is the Chateau. Surely the 'cache' can't be at two places at the same time! Name the place.

Answer: Rennes-le-Château

Bérenger Saunière was the village priest rumoured to have found the treasure, Poussin's work "The Arcadian Shepherds" reportedly has the hidden key to the treasure , Catel's book "Les Mémoires de l'Histoire du Languedoc" talks of a great treasure, "Horse of God" is a piece of rock (shaped like a horse) near the Chateau ; "La Madeleine" is the name of the Church. See http://home.tiscali.be/rlcbooks/frame1.htm for more information on this.
4. The Currency. Now, the Illuminati connection to the U.S. dollar and 'New World Order' is well known. The Illuminati is itself strongly believed to a higher order off shoot of the Freemasons. Of course, conspiracy theorists would finally connect this to an alien race or Atlantis. Coming back to the currency, the year 1776 can be seen in an altogether new light. What is this connection with respect to the Illuminati?

Answer: Year of formation of the Illuminati

The 'all seeing eye' has recently rocketed to prominence, once again, thanks to the book "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown and the movie, "National Treasure".
Check http://www.higherpraise.com/NewWorldOrder.htm and www.conspiracyarchive.com/NWO/All_Seeing_Eye.htm for more details on this.
5. The Country. Were the Knights Templar responsible for the formation of any country? Were they able to pass on their legacy? If one were to ask historians and noted Templar experts, Alan Butler and Stephen Dafoe, the answer would be yes. So which present day country are we taking about?

Answer: Switzerland

According to "The Warriors and the Bankers", the persecuation of the Templars and the initial stages of the formation of Switzerland were near simultaneous. Besides the close proximity of present-day Switzerland to France (where the witch-hunt against the Templars) made it ideal for fleeing Templars. The Templars' core competencies in neutrality and banking just add fuel to the fire. For additional evidence, look at the Templar symbol and the flags of certain Swiss cantons.
6. The Clothes. The Templars had different dress codes for the different ranks. Some of the finer aspects can be observed in present day off-shoots of the Templars. Were the Knights required to cut their beards?

Answer: No

The Templars were allowed to cut their hair short but not their beards. More information about the garments of the Templars can be seen at http://www.templarhistory.com/clothes.html
7. The Curse. It is well known that the trials of the Templars were merely an excuse for King Philip IV of France to get funds. Besides, he was hopelessly in debt to the Templars. It is rumoured that when Jacques de Molay (the last official Grand Master) was burned at the stake, he cursed the two men most heavily responsible for the destruction of the Templars, ordering them to join him within the next year. Did the 'Curse of the Templar' come true?

Answer: Yes

Pope Clement died only one month later and Philip IV the Fair seven months after that. Jacques de Molay was burned on March 19th, 1314.
8. The Crusaders. The Templars were crusaders in many fields of life - crusaders of reformation and for knowledge. 'Time may pass but the tide will still move according to the principles and its nature' for the Templars may have been disbanded but in areas where they started afresh, they were no mucks. Who amongst the following is NOT a Templar or closely related to one?

Answer: John Dikes

In Portugal, the Templars were cleared and soon changed their name to 'Knights of the Christ'. Columbus's father-in-law was a Grand Master of the Order while Henry was a Grand Master of the Order. (See Baigent and Leigh, "The Temple and the Lodge").
9. The Charges. Many see that the demise of the Templars as a deep rooted conspiracy effected by the King Philip the Fair of France, with assistance from the Hospitallars and the Pope. Which of the following was NOT one of the charges against the Templars?

Answer: Cannibalism

In total, 9 charges were levelled against them. Some were true and the rest of them blatant fabrications. Check http://www.templarhistory.com/accuse.html for a brief synopsis of the various charges.
10. The Console. Okay, this is slightly off beat question. In the game 'Deus Ex 2 - Invisible War', the Illuminati and the Templars are sworn enemies of each other. Well, in real life, both groups have a link in the Freemasons' Movement. In the PS2 version of the game, what are the Templars portrayed as?

Answer: Religious fanatics

The Knights Templars are shown in this version of the game as an intolerant group of religious fanatics who are opposed to any form of development and modifications. They believe that the human body is a sacred thing and shouldn't be tampered with.
Of course, this is as inaccurate as a description of the Templars as any could be.

Hmmm, I still haven't said about the Covenant, Commandments, Cache, Communication, Code, Cup, Church ... :)
