Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Honor their mistakes, everybody makes one another's terrible mistakes." What show is this from?

Answer: Into the Woods

If you havent seen "Into the Woods", make sure you see it. Sondheim is brilliant, and it conveniently worked out that freshmen programming took me to this show for free! Talk about a nice welcome! This is from the song "No One is Alone", my personal favorite. The original production of "Into the Woods" won three Tony awards in 1988, including Best Book and best Actress.
2. "I don't know why or who's to blame, I'll go with you or with your brother, it's all the same." What show is this from?

Answer: Man of La Mancha

Brian Stokes Mitchell was in the revival of this show when it ran in 2003, and I had never seen it before this production. I loved it. This is from the song "One Pair of Arms".
3. "I've been listening quietly, just waiting for my turn." What show is this from?

Answer: The Boy from Oz

Hugh Jackman was absolutely brilliant in this show which opened in 2004. I loved it, and this is from Liza's big number, "I Love to Hear the Music".
4. "Whatever happened to fair dealing? And pure ethics? And nice manners?" What show is this from?

Answer: Chicago

This is from the song "Class", a song that was one of my personal favorites from the musical, but was sadly left out of the movie version. I did find that a version of it done by Queen Latifah and Catherine Zeta Jones is on the DVD, so that's nice! This song is sung by the characters Velma Kelly and Matron Mama Morton.
5. "Let's just make this part go faster, I have yet to be in it" What show is this from?

Answer: Rent

Jonathan Larson, the creator and songwriter of this show, wanted people to be able to see it, even if they were of meager means, so for every show there is a lottery for 20 dollar front row seats. For this reason, I have been able to see the show 5 times. This is from the song "I Should Tell You" from the end of Act 1.
6. "Honey, I don't want those money woes!" What musical is this from?

Answer: Thoroughly Modern Millie

This is from the song "How the Other Half Lives". Sutton Foster who was the original star of the show, Millie, was incredible!
7. "You have your own compass that turns night to day, and it's even with you before you depart." What show is this from?

Answer: Urinetown

This is my favorite new musical that I have seen since moving to New York. The lyrics are HYSTERICAL, and I was fortunate enough to see it a couple of times before it ended its run in 2003 after making its way to Broadway from its original engagement off-Broadway. This is from the song "Follow Your Heart".
8. "Forget about your algebra and calculus, you can always do your homework on the morning bus" What show is this from?

Answer: Hairspray

I also got to see this show with its original broadway cast, which was great! This is from the song "The Nicest Kids in Town". Harvey Fierstein was great, but I think he just recently ended his run in 2004.
9. "A lifetime of not knowing where or how or why or when" What show is this from?

Answer: Aida

This show has an absolutely amazing soundtrack, and this line is from the song "Written in the Stars". I have seen four different leads in the role of Aida, including Toni Braxton and Deborah Cox, but the song on the Original Broadway Soundtrack is sung by Heather Headley and Adam Pascal.
10. "Some people sit on their butts, got the dream yeah, but not the guts". What show is this from?

Answer: Gypsy

This was one of the best theater experiences I have yet had. I saw Bernadette Peters in the role, my all time favorite Broadway actress, and she was phenomenal. This is from the song "Some People".
