Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What function on the printer other than printing involves you being able to type in a phone number, and scan and send off pages to that location instantly?

Answer: Fax

The Facsimile Machine, or Fax, for short, can be done without your computer being turned on. To fax an item, you click the "fax" button, type in the fax number you are sending it to, and scan an item. When you are done, the item should be scanned and on its way to the number you typed in!
2. What can you find in cemeteries, marked by tombstones?

Answer: Grave

In many cartoons and comic book, gravestones are marked with the letters "R.I.P." This stands for "Rest In Peace."
3. What vegetable, of the mustard family, is most commonly used in making cole slaw?

Answer: Cabbage

Cabbage can be used to make several different dishes. It is most commonly used in sauerkraut, cole slaw, and kraut burgers!
4. If you do not understand what is going on around you, you may be described by others as "______ and confused."

Answer: Dazed

Dazed means stunned, or not being mentally alert. Confused means not being mentally alert. So when you do not fully understand your surroundings, you can be called "DAZED and confused!"
5. When a baby is first born, how may a mother give her baby the nutrition s/he needs, (using only your left hand to type)?

Answer: Breast feeds

When a baby is first born, s/he needs to be breast fed. This is because breast feeding gives a baby the nutrition it needs, and is much safer than bottle feeding right away.

An interesting note: Although breast feed is technically two words, it can also be formed into one word, either with a hyphen, or not. Therefore, the one doing the breastfeeding is known as the breastfeeder. If there are more than one, they are breastfeeders, a 13 letters word, even longer than the most commonly presumed longest left handed word of 12 letters "stewardesses."
6. Also known as a weed whacker, what device is used to cut grass in places inaccessible to the lawn mower?

Answer: weedeater

The weed eater, also known as the weed whacker, is a handheld device with a spinning plastic wire that can cut grass. But be warned... It is also very affective in mangling your leg!
7. What, using only your left hand to type, is an adjective meaning firm or constant?

Answer: Steadfast

I would have used the word "steadfastly" for an even longer word, but alas, both the "L" and the "Y" use the right hand to type.
8. Rather than a small crack in a cave or wall, this is a deep crack in a glacier.

Answer: Crevasse

A crevice is known as a small crack in a wall or cave. However, a crevasse is much more deadly. Falling in a crevasse has claimed the lives of many people while trekking in the mountains, or conducting research. A crevasse can be several hundred feet deep, with sharp and jagged rocks and icicles protruding out the sides of the crevasse wall and at the bottom.
9. This left handed word is also a palindrome of seven letters, often seen in NASCAR.

Answer: Racecar

Other palindrome left handed words include radar and gag. Racecars can go much faster than a regular vehicle you see on the road, as they are specially designed to race!
10. What word using only the left hand means to sprinkle throughout, or to disperse seeds evenly on the ground?

Answer: Scatter

Scatterbrain didn't fit, due to the "I" and the "N," so I had to make do with scatter. A scatterbrain is one who is not necessarily depicted as one being "smart."
11. What would one call the front of a large building?

Answer: Facade

More specifically, it is the outward appearance which is intended to give a false identity, according to the Webster's Student Dictionary.
12. What is an underwater habitat filled with tropical fish and coral, and sometimes even sharks, eels, and octopi?

Answer: Reef

To note, I would have used "Great Barrier Reef," but I was just a single letter off! The "I" is on the right side of the keyboard. That is too bad, it would have beaten out "breastfeeders."
13. What place in England was Ecgberht, or Egbert, the son of Eahlmund of Kent, the king of for 37 years in the 9th century? I will give you a hint. Alfred the Great was also the king here.

Answer: Wessex

Not to be confused with Essex. Egbert of Wessex reigned for 37 years, from 802 to 839 AD, in the early ninth century.
14. What is the tallest mountain in the world?

Answer: Everest

Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. It is found on the Nepal/China border in Asia. Very few people have climbed the mountain, due to the deadly crevasses and freezing cold weather.
15. What left handed quiz would not be complete without using all of the letters? ! What is a country on the Arabian Peninsula using the letter "Q?"

Answer: Qatar

Qatar is a very small country attached to Saudi Arabia and located in the Persian Gulf. The capital is Ad Dawhah. Although Qatar is a very tiny country, it is huge compared to the dwarf size of Bahrain, an even smaller island in the Persian Gulf. It is so small, that on most maps, the star to show the capital city is larger than the island itself!
