Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you're cooking up some 'bum nuts', what might your family soon have the pleasure of eating?

Answer: Eggs

Just like 'cackle berries', 'bum nuts' are chook eggs!
2. If you're out and about and spot a 'deadly treadly', what have you seen?

Answer: A bicycle

Have you ever come a gutser off a bicycle, I have, and 'deadly treadly' is a 'bloody' good description - I 'buggered' my 'good' knee when my then five year old son rode in front of me and I went arse over t*t, off my bike!
3. What are 'scungy dungs'?

Answer: Underpants

Scungy dungs or scungy dungers - terrible sounding, but they're just underpants, well, specifically, mens underpants - get the picture?
4. What does the phrase, 'what do you think this is, bush week' mean?

Answer: A term of incredulity

The Macquarie Dictionary states that 'bush week' is, "a fictitious week when country people come to town", and, "circumstances in which unsuspecting people are imposed upon." I always ask my kids if they think it's 'bush week' when they ask for something that's way out of line - like a $400+ X-box for Christmas!
5. If you're as 'mad as a cut snake' what are you?

Answer: Very angry

You're very angry and upset, likely to 'lose your cool', 'spit the dummy' or even 'chuck a wobbly'! Can also mean crazy 'as a loon'!
6. If I said I didn't like your 'clobber', what would I be criticising?

Answer: Your clothes

The Macquarie Dictionary states, 'clobber' - "clothes or gear, Sunday clobber" - 19th century British slang, origin unknown.
7. If you're a 'cacky hander', what are you?

Answer: A left handed person

Just like a 'goofy footer ', which is a lefty surfer, a 'cacky hander' is a left handed person. Statistics show that lefties make up about 10% of the population.

Answer: An empty beer bottle

After a party or a big night on the 'grog' you're going to have a squillion 'dead marines' to dispose of.

Answer: I'll pay the bill

Usually in a restaurant, you state you'll pay the bill for the meal.
10. If someone says you're 'a long drink of water', what are you?

Answer: Very tall

Just like 'you'd have to run around the shower to get wet' meaning you're as skinny as, 'a long drink of water' means you're very tall!
11. What's a 'shemozzle'?

Answer: A mess

From the yiddish, shlim mazel - a person who always has bad luck. A 'shemozzle' is a colloquial term for a confused state of affairs, a muddle, a mess, an uproar, a row !
12. If you're 'a sick puppy' what are you?

Answer: You're depraved

To be 'a sick puppy' is to be a very depraved, 'sick' person!

Answer: You're an ugly, rough, or immoral girl

A derogatory term for an ugly or unkempt girl or woman, or a girl/woman with 'loose' morals or 'rough' behaviour, where I am from.
14. What is 'schoolies' week'?

Answer: A week's holiday at the end of studies

A week or so of holidays for, specifically, Year 12 students, usually at Surfers Paradise, Queensland, or some other place in the sun, taken after their final exams - my eldest is experiencing 'schoolies' weel' in 2002!
15. What was a 'six o'clock swill'?

Answer: Hectic beer drinking session

Formerly in New South Wales, specifically, this was a hectic session of buying and drinking beers by men in pubs near to closing time, which from 1916 to 1955 was, for many hotels, 6 pm.
