Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Let's start things off simply... "Prepare Ye" is sung by which character?

Answer: John the Baptist

In most productions, John the Baptist and Judas are played by the same actor. (When I did it, we had a female John the Baptist and a male Judas).
2. Complete the lyric: "But if that salt has lost its flavor..."

Answer: It ain't got much in its favor

This lyric is from "Light of the World," an awesome song. In our production, I had a solo in this song, so it has a special place in my heart. =D.
3. Who wrote most of the songs which made it to the final (stage) version of "Godspell"?

Answer: Stephen Schwartz

Stephen Schwartz also wrote, among other things, "Wicked" and "Pippin".
4. If you're familiar with the show, you know that Jesus reads feet. What does he claim the foot says?

Answer: Rejoice

In an attempt to cheer his disciples up after a confrontation with Judas, Jesus reads the bottom of someone's shoe as another would read palms or tea leaves.
5. What are the last two words in the show (excluding the bows)?

Answer: the Lord

The last phrase of the "Finale" is "Prepare ye the way of the Lord."
6. Complete the lyric: "Turn back, O man..."

Answer: forswear thy foolish ways

This is a great song. It's usually done cabaret-style, with the soloist roaming the audience and sitting on random peoples' laps.
7. Complete the lyric: "Not thrones and crowns, but...."

Answer: men

From "God Save the People," one of the first songs of the play.
8. Name the song from which this lyric comes: "Someone's got to be oppressed!"

Answer: All For The Best

Jesus tells everyone that "You must never be distressed" and that "All your wrongs will be redressed." Then Judas chimes in with "Someone's got to be oppressed."
9. In "Oh God, I'm Bleeding," how many lines does Jesus sing?

Answer: 5

Jesus: "Oh God, I'm bleeding.
Oh God, I'm bleeding."
Ensemble: "Oh God, you're bleeding!"

Jesus: "Oh God, I'm dying."
Ensemble: "Oh God, you're dying."
Jesus: "Oh God, I'm dying."

Jesus: "Oh God, I'm dead."
Ensemble: "Oh God, you're dead.
Oh God, you're dead.
Oh God, you're dead."
10. Name the song from which this lyric comes. "He will with patience wait"

Answer: O Bless the Lord

"He will not always chide. He will with patience wait. His wrath is ever slow to rise and ready to abate."
