Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This first one is just for fun! What does Robert Langdon drink habitually as an insomnia cure?

Answer: hot Nestle's Quik

After being awakened by Maximilian Kohler's phone call in chapter 1, Robert is unable to sleep. We learn that he retreats downstairs to prepare a mug of steaming Nestlé's Quik, his "ritual insomnia remedy".
2. What is the name of the book Robert wrote about the Illuminati?

Answer: The Art of the Illuminati

CERN director Maximilian Kohler tells Robert that he contacted him after finding his book on the internet.
3. Where is the CERN facility located?

Answer: Geneva

Located in Geneva, Switzerland, CERN (or Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire) is the largest scientific research facility in the world.
4. What word was branded on Leonardo Vetra's chest?

Answer: Illuminati

The brand is an ambigram, meaning it is readable right side up and upside down. Kohler sent Robert a fax of Vetra's branded chest to get his attention and convince him to come to CERN to help.
5. What color were Leonardo Vetra's eyes?

Answer: Hazel

We find this out at the end of chapter 23, as Langdon, Kohler and Vittoria Vetra arrive at the HAZ-MAT chamber to see if the canister of antimatter is still there. Since the only way access to the chamber is granted is with a retina scan that matches Leonardo or Vittoria, the killer cut out Leonardo's eye to gain access and steal the antimatter.
6. Who is the commander of the Vatican's security force, the Swiss Guard?

Answer: Olivetti

Santi is the surname of the painter and Illuminati member Raphael, Gunther Glick is the BBC reporter that the killer contacts and Rocher is a high-ranking captain in the Swiss Guard.
7. In which order are the Illuminati's symbols presented as the cardinals are killed?

Answer: earth, air, fire, water

The first cardinal is killed by being buried in the ground up to his waist and suffocated with a mouth full of soil (earth), the second has his lungs punctured (air), the third is burned (fire) and the fourth is drowned (water).
8. Who wrote the controversial booklet, Diagramma?

Answer: Galileo

Galileo's Diagramma contained hidden clues that only Illuminati members and hopefuls would be able to decipher. The clues spelled out the landmarks needed to locate the Path of Illumination, which would eventually lead followers to the secret Illuminati headquarters.
9. What is the relationship between Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca and the recently deceased Pope?

Answer: father and son

Until learning it from cardinal Mortati in chapter 133, Camerlengo Ventresca never knew that the Pope, his mentor and friend, was actually his birth father. Although he was conceived using in vitro fertilization and therefore the Pope had remained chaste, Ventresca didn't find this out until it was too late and he had already had his father killed.

His motives were simply that he was distraught and disillusioned that the Pope had fathered a child, and never gave the Pope time to explain that the child was actually him.
10. What did Mortati place in the recently deceased Pope's sarcophagus?

Answer: the ashes of Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca

"A chance for forgiveness," Mortati whispers as he places the urn of ashes in the large stone coffin. He touchingly wanted to reunite father and son for eternity.
