Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The book 'Inkheart'(Real book) contains many antagonists. Which of the following CANNOT be called an antagonist although he shows many features of being 'the bad guy' throughout the book?

Answer: Dustfinger

Interestingly enough Cornelia Funke does not reveal Dustfinger as a 'good guy' until the near end of the book until which he switches from being an antagonist to a protagonist and so on and so forth.
2. Which of the following books does Meggie put in her 'Treasure Chest'?

Answer: The Witches

She puts 'The Witches' along with The 'Odyssey' into her 'treasure chest' because she wants something similar to what was happening to her now, but at the same time exciting enough to drive all other thoughts out of her head - 'even the darkest'.
3. What does 'charta virginea non nata' mean?

Answer: Making book bindings for valuable books from the skin of unborn calves

All or almost all the books Meggie had in her 'treasure chest' were not bound in leather but in nice colored bindings made by her father. This is because Meggie's father had once told her that - 'people made the bindings for particularly valuable books from the skin of unborn calves, charta virginea non nata, a pretty name for a terrible thing.' :- Mortimer Folchart
4. Who and what is Dustfinger's constant companion who never (except when Basta shows up) abandons him?

Answer: Gwin, a Horned Marten

When Meggie asks her father how Gwin got his horns, Mortimer Folchart comments that Gwin's horns have been stuck onto him by Dustfinger. Only afterward does Meggie discover that Gwin comes from inside Inkheart which is why he has horns.
5. Who calls whom 'Master Matchstick-swallower'?

Answer: Elinor calls Dustfinger a Master Matchstick-swallower

Elinor starts calling Dustfinger 'Master Matchstick-swallower' after he swallows and extinguishes a matchstick in front of Elinor to show-off his talents/powers.
6. What happened to Meggie's mother?

Answer: She was accidentally read into Inheart

Meggie's mom was not killed or kidnapped by Capricorn. It is revealed that she was read into the book accidentally by Meggie's father - Mortimer Folchart (also known as Mo).
7. Which statement is true?

Answer: Meggie is 12

Meggie is indeed 12 in the book as stated in the first few chapters. Farid survives the story and follows Dustfinger to be his apprentice and Fenoglio has three grandchildren, not two.
8. What happened to the greatly esteemed author (Fenoglio and not Funke) of 'Inkheart' (the book inside the real book) at the end of the story?

Answer: Fenoglio is accidentally read into Inkheart by Meggie

Remember, this is not a quiz about the film, it is completely about the novel. Therefore although the producers of the film wanted to make Fenoglio want to go into his work, the novel clearly states that Fenoglio is accidentally sent into the book because of Meggie.
9. Why does Fenoglio (the author of the book 'Inkheart' inside the real 'Inkheart' book) name his book 'Inkheart'?

Answer: As it is about a man who has a heart as dark as ink

When Fenoglio is brought in front of Capricorn he tries to talk his way out of being harmed by Capricorn. He almost succeeds after telling Capricorn why he used Inkheart as a title for his book and about Capricorn's and Basta's childhood.
10. The final question. Let's see... - What line is used to end (Real book)'Inkheart'?

Answer: As Mo had said: writing stories is a kind of magic, too.

Yes, Cornelia Funke ends her novel with a very nice sentence for all writers out there. She concludes her story with Meggie deciding that she would be an author. This line is used to portray this theme, which it does successfully.
