Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. An easy one to begin with - How old is Richard Papen when he narrates the story?

Answer: 28

Richard was 20 at the time of Bunny's murder.
2. Which Greek literary character did Camilla quote during Richard's first Greek class?

Answer: Klytemnestra

From the Agamemnon - a lovely piece about a Queen stabbing her husband in his bath.
3. Who was the hippie who owned the warehouse where Richard spent an unfortunate winter break?

Answer: Leo

Leo the "mandolin maker" only rented to Richard because he thought he'd lived in the Blue Ridge Mountains and carved dulcimer pegs. Richard nearly died in the sub-freezing Vermont temperatures, and the warehouse had a huge hole in the roof.
4. What movie did Richard and Bunny attend the night of the farmer's murder?

Answer: The Thirty-Nine Steps

The Greek students hadn't invited either Richard or Bunny along on this excursion which resulted in the unfortunate death of the farmer.
5. Julian had no family.

Answer: False

Julian had some nephews but he didn't care for them.
6. Who was the farmer, who met an unfortunate death at the hands of the Greek students while they were having their bacchanal?

Answer: Harry Ray McRee

McRee, a poultry farmer from Battenkill County, was mutilated. The Greek students had little memory of the death, and little memory of the bacchanal at all, other than "coming to" all covered in blood.
7. There were several things the Greek students disliked about Bunny's character, and these things helped to dispel any guilt they might have felt at the idea of murdering him. One particular thing was the way Bunny tormented them after the farmer's murder. What was the song Bunny would break into that sent chills down the Greek student's spines?

Answer: The Farmer In The Dell

Bunny also insinuated that Charles and Camilla (brother and sister) had slept together, made terrible jokes about homosexuals (Francis was gay) and Catholics, and made fun of Richard's humble middle class upbringing.
8. Bunny left a note for Marion at the library, telling her that he'd walked down to the "Swing Into Spring" party for a beer. On which book did Richard find the note?

Answer: On top of a volume of the "World Book Encyclopedia."

Should Richard tell the Greek friends where Bunny was going, or should he keep the note's contents to himself and perhaps prevent Bunny's murder?
9. How many Hampden students committed suicide in the days and weeks following Bunny's death?

Answer: 1

A freshman girl attempted suicide twice - once with poison berries. This time she failed. A razor blade did the trick on her second attempt.
10. The Greek students were charged with both murders.

Answer: False

The farmer's death did not affect them much because they considered it an unfortunate accident. Bunny's death however, was another thing, and they all suffered emotionally afterward. Henry felt Bunny had to die, or eventually he would implicate Henry and the others in the farmer's death.

Henry was able to convince the others of this and after much thought, a plan was derived and carried out. Bunny's death was ruled a hiking accident, and McRee's murder was never solved. The Greek students were never charged in either death.
