Iluvatar sensed that there was no evil in Aule's heart and breathed life into his creations. However, he would not allow them to awake before the Firstborn, the Elves.

Answer: Mahal

Durin I (also known as the Deathless) is the eldest and most famous of the original seven. Not much is known of the others though there is a rumor that mates were also created for them.

Azaghal and his people were the only ones able to withstand the fire and heat from Glaurung's breath. Though he perished, Azaghal badly wounded Glaurung, forcing the dragon to retreat. His people then left the battlefield and never fought again while the Age lasted.

They were the sons of his sister Dis. Thorin was also slain in the battle and laid to rest under the Lonely Mountain.

For five years, the expedition flourished, but in 2994, they were overrun by a huge host of Orcs and Trolls. All members of the expedition died and no word was heard from them until the Company of the Ring passed through and discovered their fate.

Answer: Aglarond

These were also known as the Glittering Caves. Gimli founded a Dwarf colony here after the War of the Ring and was its Lord.
