1. The book starts with Fitz in his peaceful cottage in the country. Who is the first visitor to Fitz's cottage in the book?

Answer: Chade

Chade visits the cottage trying to convince Fitz to return to Buckkeep and teach Dutiful the Skill.
2. What name does Fitz give the horse 'Lord Golden' buys for him?

Answer: Myblack

Fitz begins to refer to the horse simply as 'my black' and the name sticks.
3. What animal is Civil Bresinga bonded to?

Answer: Cat

Civil is bonded to a hunting cat, similar to the one which was given to Dutiful as a present.
4. Why doesn't Fitz sleep in the inn of the 'Piebald Prince'?

Answer: It is made of the same stone as the skill pillars.

As soon as Fitz enters the inn he begins to feel sleepy and can't figure out why. Eventually he realises the the inn is made of the silver veinned stone that is so dangerous to skill users and decides to sleep in the stable.

Laudwine is the leader of the group who kidnap Dutiful. He is the brother of the woman who is living in Dutiful's cat.

Fitz and Dutiful come through the skill pillar underwater, just off the treasure beach on the Other's Island.

The Prince disappears just before his future wife arrives in Buckeep and is also in danger from 'The Piebalds', a group of witted people who want power for themselves.

Fitz keeps the figurine on the chain for Dutiful. In 'The Golden Fool' Dutiful observes that it resembles the woman that his young bride will grow up to be.

Answer: Narwhal

The Narcheska's mother is of the Narwhal clan while her father is in the Boar clan. Land is inherited mother to daughter therefore the Narcheska is a member of her mother's house, not her fathers.
