Question 1 of 10
1. Kingsport, Rhode Island: "I don't know who killed these three guys, but they must have crossed the wrong gang. We'll have to identify the bodies by their dental records! No, no witnesses. Him? No, it couldn't have been, he's over a hundred years old. I dunno, just some old sailor." Which Lovecraft story is this from? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. New York City: "Empire Mechanical Repair, how may I help you? You again? Listen, Dr. Munoz, I know your air conditioner is broken, but like I told you before, I can't send anyone out there until Tuesday at the earliest. I'm aware of how hot it is! Look, Doctor, it's not like you're going to melt. Doctor? Hello?" Which Lovecraft short story is described here? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Arkham: "Suicide, he just jumped from the top story window. Morphine addict you know, you hate to see anyone in a state like that. Suicide note? Yeah, but it didn't make any sense. Just ranting about some kind of fish-god thing he saw during the Great War. Drugs, they'll rot your mind." Which Lovecraft tale is this from? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Kingsport, Rhode Island: "That patient? They found him floating in Kingsport Harbor on Christmas morning. He claims he got lost and fell in. He should be okay in a couple of days, but I think the experience turned his brain a little bit. He freaked out when he saw a doctor in a surgical mask. He says he hates masks, you never know what kind of face they might be hiding. I suggest we hold him for observation for while." What Lovecraft story am I relating? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Arkham: "Sir, visiting hours are over, and I certainly will not release the patient to you. Well, for one thing, he's extremely violent. If you could show me some sort of credentials...Sir, I wish you wouldn't do that, it makes me uncomfortable. Please put your head back on." Which serialized Lovecraft story is this? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Arkham: "Well, either he killed Harley Warren, or he's nuts. All this talk about a forgotten cemetery, a secret tomb, and a weird voice on the telephone...I think he's crazy. Then again, he admits he was the last person to see Warren alive." What Lovecraft yarn is this? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Providence, Rhode Island: "Forget it, he didn't kill Crawford Tillinghast. The medical examiner says he died of a stroke. Yes, the guy did fire his pistol, but he only hit some weird machine that Tillinghast had invented. I don't know what to make of all that talk about other dimensions and invisible monsters. Maybe Tillinghast hypnotized him or something. And what happened to all the servants?" What Lovecraft story is this? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Rural New York: "I don't know what he expects to accomplish, dynamiting the old Martense Mansion. Not to mention all those weird hills and big trees. He says it will put an end to all those unsolved 'lightning storm' murders, but I don't see how. Searchers have been all over the place. No one has lived in that house for a hundred years." What early Lovecraft story is this? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Huntington, England. "I don't know what got into him. When he received the large package in the post, he seemed so excited. Half an hour later he runs out onto the moor and lights himself on fire. I don't see why he was so upset, there was nothing in the box but some old mummy of a gorilla. Funny looking creature. If I didn't know better, I'd say it kind of looks like...nah." What Lovecraft tale is this? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Terra Nova, Venus: "That's Stanfield's body, all right. Must have died from stress and dehydration. Horrible way to go, caught in this invisible maze. Poor guy didn't think to look behind him for an exit." What Lovecraft story is this? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: The Terrible Old Man

The three men were burglars who didn't realize the Terrible Old Man had the power to summon the ghosts of his former crewmates when he was in trouble. The burglars' names were Angelo Ricci, Joe Czanek, and Manuel Silva. Knowing Lovecraft's views on race, it's probably not a coincidence that they were an Italian, a Pole, and a Spaniard.

Answer: Cool Air

Dr. Munoz had died several years ago. Thanks to his research, he was able to keep moving, provided his apartment stayed cold. His discoveries could have changed the world, but most HMOs don't allow the procedure.

Answer: Dagon

Dagon was an actual diety worshiped by the Philistines and mentioned in the Bible. Be careful if you ever come across an island between Chile and Australia that's not on your charts.

Answer: The Festival

"...the soul of the devil-bought hastes not from his charnal clay, but fats and instructs the very worm that gnaws...great holes secretly are digged where the earth's pores ought to suffice, and things have learnt to walk that ought to crawl." --From 'The Festival'

Answer: Herbert West: Reanimator

This story was the basis for the 1985 film 'Re-animator,' and some less than great sequels.

Answer: The Statement of Randoph Carter

Randolph Carter was one of Lovecraft's few characters that appear in more than one story. An author, dreamer, and lover of the unknown, he is Lovecraft's alter ego.

Answer: From Beyond

Lovecraft liked the idea that there were hideous, horrific, sanity-stripping monsters at every corner, just out of our sight, and that they could burst into our reality at any second. Sweet dreams.

Answer: The Lurking Fear

The Martense family, living in isolation, devolved into murderous ape creatures after a hundred years. The theme of racial degeneration is common in Lovecraft's work. 'The Lurking Fear' is similar to his early story, 'The Beast in the Cave.'

Answer: Arthur Jermyn

Jermyn's great-great-great grandmother was a gorilla. Lovecraft was rather racist, and his feelings about the taint of 'inferior' blood come through in tales such as this.
10. Terra Nova, Venus: "That's Stanfield's body, all right. Must have died from stress and dehydration. Horrible way to go, caught in this invisible maze. Poor guy didn't think to look behind him for an exit." What Lovecraft story is this?

Answer: In the Walls of Eryx

One of Lovecraft's last stories, it is his only example of 'true' science fiction. While he often wrote about space travel and aliens, this is the only story that didn't include magic, spells, and gods.
