Richard never sets out to be brave, or heroic; all he wants is a quiet life, but as he says more than once, "sometimes there is nothing else you can do."
Right through the story, all Richard wants is to go home and have everything back the way it was, but once he gets there he realises it isn't what he wanted after all and he returns to London Below.

Answer: An umbrella with a map of the London Underground on it

Richard gives his umbrella away to a homeless lady outside the pub, during his leaving party. It is pouring with rain and he feels sorry for her.

When they catch him they kill him very painfully, but the Marquis was prepared for this and "hid his life" with Old Bailey so he could be revived later.
The idea is that he will learn more because he is about to die; they will speak more freely in front of him.

Richard and Door have to find the Angelus in order to get to Islington. At this point they think Islington is a friend to Door and her family, and that it will help them find out who killed Door's family.
The Angelus is "the easy way" to Islington, and can only be used once.

Hammersmith makes Door a chain and also, unbeknownst to anyone else, makes her a replica key.

Hunter is hired as a bodyguard, and she is a good one until the very last, when she betrays Door.
Her price for the betrayal is "the spear" which is the only weapon to give her a chance at killing the fabled Beast of London.
In the end the Beast kills Hunter, and is in turn killed by Richard.
