A voice calls to Dresden, and it is revealed that it is the wielder of the toad-demon. Dresden pulls a daring move with the storm, using the lightning to explode the toad-demon. After this, Morgan reappears, telling him that he's been accused of killing Jennifer Stanton and Tommy Tomm, which violates the First Law of the White Council and that he will be tried for their deaths.

The Wardens enforce the Seven Laws of Magic, and are empowered to deliver summary judgment when confronting a violator of the Laws. This can be anything from advising new practitioners of the Laws, to delivering suspects to trial in front of the Senior Council, to simply beheading criminals in the field. During times of war (such as the current conflict with the Red Court), Wardens also serve as the White Council's military branch.

The two "badges" of the office of Warden are their grey cloaks (which, according to Harry, blood cannot stain) and silver longswords with the ability to break enchantments.

The scorpion idol was given to Harry by Monica Sells to help him track down her husband Victor Sells. However it was reanimated amd tried to kill Harry who ends up crushing the car-sized scorpion by the building's elevator.
