Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the organization that Mr. Lies works for?

Answer: The International Order of Travel Agents

He tells this to Harper when he comes to take her to Antarctica.
Mr Lies: "Mr. Lies. Of the International Order of Travel Agents. We mobilize the globe, we set people adrift, we stir the populace and send nomads eddying across the planet."
2. What does Louis say a sharp dog is as smart as?

Answer: A really dull two-year old child.

Louis and Prior are having a discussion about cats, which leads to Louis' comment about dogs.
3. Who turns out to be the man with the knife in Harper's hallucinations?

Answer: Joe

Joe realizes this, in an argument he has with Harper right before he moves out.
He tells her " As long as I've known you Harper you've been afriad of...of men hiding under the bed, men hiding under the sofa, men with knives....Who are these men? I never understood it. Now I know....It's me. I'm the man with the knives."
4. What number "Prior Walter" is Prior? Hint: use his counting.

Answer: 34

By Prior's counting he is number 34. The first ancestor that visits him tells him that he is the 32nd, because he isn't "counting the bastards."
5. When Louis is talking to Belize in the coffee shop, he starts talking philosophy and politics. What does Louis think tolerance is worth?

Answer: Nothing

Louis says that what the AIDS epidemic teaches is tolerance.
Louis: "what I think is that what AIDS shows us is the limits of tolerance, that it's not enough to be tolerated, because when (it) hits the fan you find out how much tolerance is worth. Nothing. And underneath all the tolerance is intense, passionate hatred."
6. What does Belize think is ambivalent?

Answer: love

At one point Louis says that "Real love isn't ambivalent" but later when Belize is talking to him again, he (Belize) says: Justice is simple. Democracy is simple. Those things are unambivalent. But love is very hard."
7. What kind of tree does Harper chew down in Central Park?

Answer: pine

Harper is in one of her hallucinations and believes that she is in Antarctica chewing down a tree for fire. In reality she is in Central Park. Hannah receives a call from the police about the incident.
8. Who is the ghost that frequently visits Roy Cohn in the hospital, and was the one that told him of his disbarment?

Answer: Ethel Rosenberg

Roy was one of the lawyers responsible for the Rosenberg's executions. We come to find out that he called the judge every night to talk to him about the case, which is highly illegal.
9. What does Belize say his problem is?

Answer: That he is trapped in a world of white people.

He says this near the end of "Perestroika" when he and Prior go to spy on Joe at the Courthouse. Nothing is ever said about Belize going to San Fransisco, although he describes heaven as being like SF. The line about being a gay man in New York was said by Prior when he explains how he can handle pressure.
10. What is the name of the fountain where the epilogue takes place?

Answer: Bethesda

The fountain is located in Central Park and the story of the fountain is told in almost a "film noir" way with them coming out of the scene to talk straight to the audience.
