Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How does Annie meet Sandy?

Answer: Sandy takes corn from her and gives it back

In the 1999 movie, Annie escapes the orphanage by hiding in a laundry bin. Mr. Bundles takes it out not knowing that Annie is inside. Although Annie escaped Miss Hannigan, this meant that she was homeless. Since she had no money, she decided to steal some corn.

However, then Sandy stole the corn. However, Sandy brought it back. Annie felt bad for Sandy, so she befriends the dog and sings "Tomorrow."
2. Does Sandy answer to his name?

Answer: No

When the cop tells Annie to call Sandy to prove that he is her dog, Annie says "Sandy" twice. He does not respond. When she says "Come here, boy," that's when Sandy comes. Somehow, the cop did not figure out that Sandy responded to "Boy" and not his name, so he let Annie get away with this.

However, the cop told Annie that Sandy needed a license and a leash. Later, the cop finds Annie and Sandy again, with Sandy not having a license or a leash. The cop takes Annie back to the orphanage and she is separated from Sandy.
3. What makes the 1999 Grace different from the 1982 and the 2014 versions of the character, other than that the 1999 one has a superior singing voice?

Answer: She's African American

This is ironic, because the 2014 movie is often referred to as "Black Annie" due to the title character and the man who adopts her being African American only in that version of Annie. However, Grace is still white in that version. The only version of Annie that has an African American Grace (of the three mentioned in the intro) is the 1999 one.

The 1999 version of Grace is portrayed by Audra McDonald. She has an amazing singing voice that she shows off multiple times. Notably, when Mr. Warbucks thinks he has found Annie's parents and Annie doesn't want to leave Daddy Warbucks for them, Grace sings "Maybe" and "Tomorrow" for her to cheer her up.

When Audra McDonald shows off her singing voice, it's easy to understand why she got the role of Grace even though this takes place during a time when African American women didn't usually hold high positions in the United States.
4. What is the most important fact that Miss Hannigan taught to Annie?

Answer: Never tell a lie

When the cop returns Annie to the orphanage, Miss Hannigan asks her if she's glad that she's back. Annie says "Yes." Miss Hannigan angrily calls her a liar and asks her what is the one thing she taught her. Annie says "Never tell a lie." Teaching Annie this lesson comes back to bite Miss Hannigan at the end of the movie.
5. Which song is in the 1999 "Annie" but not in the 1982 or 2014 movies?

Answer: Something Was Missing

After Mr. Warbucks gets to know Annie, he decides he wants to adopt Annie. He sings this song to try to convince her to be okay with that. He sings that he became rich and famous, but he wasn't completely happy. He wanted someone to share it with, and that turned out to be Annie. Annie initially wanted to be with her real parents, but she decided that if she couldn't have them, she'd like to be adopted by Mr. Warbucks. Mr. Warbucks tries to find Annie's parents, but then he finds out that they died. That's when Annie agrees to be adopted by him under the name "Bennett-Warbucks."

This song could be considered the prequel to "I Don't Need Anything But You," a duet that Mr. Warbucks and Annie sing together about how they come from very different economic backgrounds, but that doesn't matter because the only thing they really need to be happy is each other. This song is in the Broadway Musical, but the only one of the movies it appeared in is the 1999 movie.
6. When Miss Hannigan says "My Annie is going to be adopted by your millionaire?" how does Grace respond?

Answer: Actually, he's a billionaire.

Ironically, later in the movie, when Lily asks a similar question to Miss Hannigan, Miss Hannigan responds "No, the billionaire, you dumb hotel!" It seems hypocritical for Miss Hannigan to call Lily dumb for not known that Mr. Warbucks is a billionaire and not just a millionaire. Miss Hannigan is angry that Annie gets to live with Mr. Warbucks.

After Annie ran away from home, Miss Hannigan thought Annie should have been punished, not rewarded, for that. However, Rooster and Lily assure Miss Hannigan that they can use Annie to get more money.

They learn exactly how they can do that after Mr. Warbucks offers a $50,000 reward to the couple who can prove that they are Annie's parents.
7. Who pretends to be Annie's parents?

Answer: Rooster and Miss Hannigan

The 1999 movie is unique in that Miss Hannigan is the fake mom. In the Broadway musical and the 1982 movie, Lily is the fake mom. In the 1999 movie, Rooster and Miss Hannigan pretend to be Annie's parents and they leave Lily to look after the kids. Lily foolishly tells the orphans that Rooster and Miss Hannigan are at Mr. Warbucks' place.

The orphans then steal Lily's purse and threaten to show her fake IDs to the cops if she doesn't tell them what's going on. When she does, they also make her realize that Rooster may not keep his promise and come back for her.
8. What do the orphans say when they arrive at the Warbucks mansion?

Answer: We love you, Miss Hannigan!

Lily takes the orphans to the Warbucks mansion. She enters in one side demanding her share of the money. The orphans enter from another side saying "We love you, Miss Hannigan!" and exposing who "Annie's mom" really is. Miss Hannigan and Rooster try to run away but the president and the secret service stop them.

The other quotes are in a different "Annie" movie.
9. What happens to Miss Hannigan?

Answer: She gets taken to an asylum.

For some reason, Rooster and Lily get arrested but Miss Hannigan doesn't even though she was as important to the kidnapping scheme as the other two. Instead, she tries to run away singing "Someday I'll land in the nut house, with all the nuts and the squirrels, there I'll stay until the prohibition of little girls," reprising the last verse of her classic song "Little Girls" that she sang earlier in the movie. Then, she gets tied up and taken to an asylum or a "Nut house" fulfilling what she sang.

The wrong answers happen either in a different Annie movie or in the Broadway musical.
10. Did Annie's real parents come back for her?

Answer: No

Through the handwriting in a letter than Annie gave to Mr. Warbucks, the FBI finds Annie's real parents. They determine that Annie's real last name is "Bennett" but her parents died. So, contrary to what Annie told everyone earlier in the movie and contrary to what she sang in "Maybe," Annie's parents are not alive, they won't ever come back for her, none of what Annie sang in that overrated song is true, and she is an orphan.

However, Mr. Warbucks adopts her and President Roosevelt promises to find similar homes for all her friends, so things turn out pretty well for Annie in the end.
