Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I was one of Charlie's grandfathers and was once employed by Willy Wonka. Who am I?

Answer: David Kelly

Kelly, born on July 11th, 1929, in Dublin, Ireland, was cast as Grandpa Joe for this film. Grandpa Joe lived with Charlie and his parents, as well as Grandma Josephina, Grandma Georgina, and Grandpa George. Grandpa Joe revealed that he used to work at Willy Wonka's factory but Wonka closed the factory and never told anyone why.

When Charlie won the golden ticket, Grandpa Joe jumped for joy and that was when Charlie told Grandpa Joe that he wanted him to accompany him to the factory. When Grandpa Joe told Willy Wonka that he used to work for him, Wonka asked him if he sold any of his secret recipes to anyone. Grandpa Joe said he did not so Mr. Wonka welcomed him back to the factory. Kelly was seen in the movies, "Laws of Attraction", "Mystics", and "Waking Ned".
2. I was Charlie's grandmother but I did not say weird things like his other grandma. Who am I?

Answer: Eileen Essell

Essell, a native of The United Kingdom, took on the role of Grandma Josephine. Josephine did not say or do much in this film, since she did not accompany Charlie to the factory and, also, never said anything that changed the subject. She merely cheered Charlie on when he looked for the ticket and was pleased when he found one.

At the end of the film, Willy Wonka invited The Bucket family, which included Grandma Josephine, to come live with him in the factory in much better living conditions. Essell guest starred on the TV series', "Demons", "Heartbeat", and "Hustle".
3. My character had the mouth of a truck driver but I put that aside to convince Charlie to go to the factory and not sell his ticket. Who am I?

Answer: David Morris

Morris, born in 1924 in Kent, England, played Grandpa George. Grandpa George was seen cursing when Mike Teavee was interviewed from his home in Colorado, after he won the fourth golden ticket. Mike said he hated chocolate so George got a little upset and ran his mouth. Mr. Bucket covered Charlie's ears so he could not hear George's swearing.

When Charlie found the fifth and final golden ticket, he told his family that someone offered him a lot of money for the ticket. He said that they needed money more than the chocolate. Grandpa George took him aside and said there were only five golden tickets and that money got printed everyday and was far too common. George told Charlie that only a dummy would take money for this kind of ticket. George asked Charlie if he was a dummy and Charlie, of course, said no. Morris guest starred on the TV series', "Jonathan Creek", "Little Britain", and "Saxondale".

He had a role in the TV film, "When I'm Sixty-Four". He passed away on October 29th, 2007, at the age of 83.
4. I was Charlie's grandma who went senile and said things that had nothing to do with any conversation. Who am I?

Answer: Liz Smith

Smith got the part of Grandma Georgina for this film. Georgina lived with Charlie's other three grandparents, Charlie and Charlie's parents in a small house. They had very little money, ate little, and were hoping for a better life. Georgina remained optimistic that something would happen to make The Buckets live much better and that was true since Charlie and his family moved into Wonka's factory at the film's end, in which they lived better lives. Georgina, also, had a strong affinity for grapes. Smith guest starred on the TV series, "The Royle Family", "Lark Rise to Candleford", and "The Bill".
5. My character was the first one to win a golden ticket. It was good that I did, seeing as how I loved chocolate and pretty much all foods. Who am I?

Answer: Philip Wiegratz

Wiegratz, born on February 7th, 1993, in Germany, was cast as Augustus Gloop, the first one to find a golden ticket. Augustus' mother figured that Augustus would find a ticket due to how he ate food all the time. When he was interviewed, Augustus said that he celebrated his finding by eating more candy. On the day of his visit to the chocolate factory (along with the other winners and their guests), Augustus ate chocolate from a river made of chocolate. Willy Wonka told him that that chocolate should not be touched by human hands. Augustus fell into the river and was suctioned up into a tube that lead to another room. Mr. Wonka told an oompa loompa to take Mrs. Gloop to that room to help her find her soon. Wiegratz got parts in the German films, "Es ist ein Elch entsprungen", "Die Wilden Huhner", and "Die Wilden Huhner und das Leben".
6. I portrayed the mother of the first finder of the golden ticket. I did not get to see much of the factory since my son just could not stay away from that chocolate river! Shame on him! Who am I?

Answer: Franziska Troegner

Troegner, a native of Berlin, Germany, landed the role of Mrs. Gloop. Mrs. Gloop was first seen when her son was interviewed after he won the golden ticket. She accompanied him to the factory since the golden ticket said the recipient was allowed to bring one parent or relative with him or her. Mrs. Gloop told Augustus to not eat the chocolate from the river when she found him doing this. Augustus fell in and got sucked up a tube and went to another room. Willy Wonka made a snide remark to her about her son but then called for one of his oompa loompas to take Mrs. Gloop to find her son. Troegner guest starred on the TV series', "Tatort", "Anja & Anton", and "A.S."
7. My character was the father to a girl whom he spoiled rotten. He got her a pony as well as many other things and made sure she found a golden ticket. Who am I?

Answer: James Fox

Fox was cast as Mr. Salt for this film. Mr. Salt was in the nut business and owned a company that produced nuts. When he found out that Willy Wonka had issued five golden tickets to be found in his chocolate bars, he had his workers, instead of working on producing nuts, open up chocolate bars to find his daughter a golden ticket. One of the workers found the ticket and he got it for his daughter, Veruca.

He accompanied Veruca to the chocolate factory. When Willy Wonka took his guests (minus Augustus and Mrs. Gloop as well as Violet and Mrs. Beauergarde) to the nut room, he showed them how his squirrels shelled nuts and threw away the shells, as well as ones they found to be bad nuts. Veruca told her father that she wanted a squirrel and Mr. Salt asked Mr. Wonka how much a squirrel cost. Willy said that they were not for sale. Veruca went into the area where the squirrels were and this frightened them so they pushed her down the garbage chute. Mr. Salt tried to pick her out of the chute but a squirrel leapt up and pushed him into the chute as well. Thankfully, both Veruca and Mr. Salt made it out alive. Fox starred in the movies, "Goodbye Mr. Snuggles", "Shadow Run", and "Up at the Villa".
8. I portrayed a girl who was spoiled rotten and deemed a bad nut by the squirrels. Who am I?

Answer: Julia Winter

Winter, born on March 17th, 1993, in Stockholm, Sweden, played Veruca Salt in the film. Salt, technically, did not open up a bar of chocolate to get a golden ticket since her father ordered his employees to remove the wrappers to find a ticket. When one of the workers found one, he gave it to his daughter. Veruca chose her father to accompany her to Willy Wonka's factory.

In the nut room, Veruca climbed down the stairs and got close to the squirrels. This frightened them so they crawled all over her and dropped her into the garbage chute. Willy Wonka joked that they found her to be a "bad nut" since all the bad nuts went down the chute. Winter's only acting credit was as Veruca Salt in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".
9. My character was the fourth one to find a golden ticket. He had a huge love for television. Who am I?

Answer: Jordan Fry

Fry, a native of Spokane, Washington, got the role of Mike Teavee for Tim Burton's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". Teavee was interviewed from his home in Colorado, when he won the fourth golden ticket. He said that he tracked the shipping codes to figure out which bar had a golden ticket.

A reporter asked him if he liked the chocolate and Mike said he hated chocolate. When there was just Mike Teavee and Charlie left as the only children, Willy Wonka took both of them and their guardians on a glass elevator and asked Mike to pick a room in the factory to go to and the elevator would go there. Mike chose the TV room.

In the TV room, Willy Wonka demonstrated how he would transport a bar of chocolate from one part of the room into a TV. Mike wound up inside the TV and was very small.

At the end of the film, he was found to be stretched very thin. Fry was seen in the films, "Counter-Fit" and "Raising Flagg." He lent his voice for the character of Lewis in the animated feature, "Meet the Robinsons".
10. I played the mother of a girl who loved to chew gum. Unfortunately, I saw my daughter morph into an oversized blueberry! Who am I?

Answer: Missi Pyle

Pyle, born on November 16th, 1972, in Houston, Texas, portrayed Mrs. Beauregarde. Mrs. Beauregarde was interviewed from her home in Atlanta when her daughter, Violet, found a golden ticket. She showed off all of Violets' trophies and other various awards. Violet asked her mom to accompany her to the chocolate factory and she agreed to go with her.

When Violet decided to chew gum that was a three course meal (appetizer, main course, and dessert), Mrs. Beauergarde beamed that her daughter would be the first one to have a chewing gum three course meal.

The courses on the gum that Violet chewed were tomato soup for the appetizer, roast beef and a baked potato for the main course, and blueberries for dessert. Once she said she was at the blueberries part, Violet started to balloon up into a blueberry. Willy Wonka told Mrs. Beauergarde that he had not quite perfected the gum and it would go wrong at the dessert part. Willy Wonka told an oompa loompa to escort Mrs. Beauergarde to the juicer room, where they would squeeze the juice out of Violet. Mrs. Beauergarde followed the oompa loompa to the juicer room. Pyle guest starred on the TV series', "In Plain Sight", "Pushing Daisies", and "Boston Legal".
