Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who convinces Charlie to not sell his ticket?

Answer: Grandpa George

When Charlie finds a golden ticket, multiple people offer to buy it from him. The shopkeeper tells Charlie to run home and not let anyone have it. Charlie follows the shopkeeper's advice, but then he tells the family that he wants to sell the ticket because they need money more than they need chocolate. Grandpa George tells Charlie that there's lots of money in the world, but only five golden tickets, so selling the ticket wouldn't be smart. Charlie listens to Grandpa George and he decides to go to the factory.
2. Who goes to the factory with Charlie?

Answer: Grandpa Joe

Charlie chooses Grandpa Joe over everyone else in his family to go to the factory because Grandpa Joe used to work for Willy Wonka in the factory, so he knew more about Willy Wonka and the factory than anyone else, and would therefore be a better guardian for Charlie on this tour than anyone else. In addition, he wanted to go more than anyone else did.
3. What happens during the puppet show?

Answer: The puppets catch on fire.

Fireworks emerge from the puppets at the end of the show. This causes them to burn. Willy Wonka, who is watching the show, doesn't seem to be bothered that they are burning and he actually feels that the burning of the puppets is the best part of the show.
4. When Violet hugs Willy and introduces herself, how does Willy respond?

Answer: "I don't care."

Violet learns that surprise-hugging people is not a good idea. You should never hug anyone without permission. Additionally, Willy is not interested in learning their names. He'd already seen them on TV or read about them in the newspapers, as we can infer from the fact that he knew Mike Teavee's name and how he got a ticket.
5. When Augustus asks Charlie if he wants chocolate and Charlie says "Yes", what does Augustus say?

Answer: "Then you should have bought some."

This dialogue establishes the fact that Augustus is a bully, not just a fat kid. In the 1971 movie, he didn't seem like a bad kid. In the 2005 movie, they made it more clear that the other four kids were indeed bad kids.
6. What is edible in the chocolate room?

Answer: Everything

Willy Wonka says, "Everything in this room is eatable. Even I'm eatable. But that's called cannibalism, my dear children, and is in fact frowned upon in most societies," and then he says, "Enjoy." This makes Mr. Salt give Mr. Wonka an odd look, but Mr. Wonka doesn't seem to care.
7. Who works in the factory?

Answer: Oompa Loompas

Veruca is the first to notice the Oompa Loompas. Unlike in the book, in the 2005 movie, she doesn't ask for an Oompa Loompa. Willy tells the kids and parents that they come from Loompaland. Willy went there looking for exotic new flavors for candy. Instead, he found Oompa Loompas, who ate green caterpillars but wanted to eat cocoa beans. Willy asked their chief if all the Oompa Loompas would like to work in his factory in exchange for all the cocoa beans they want. The chief agreed.

Although there are supposed to be many Oompa Loompas, there is only one Oompa Loompa actor: Deep Roy.
8. Do the Oompa Loompas sing that Augustus would be harmed?

Answer: No

They sing that he will not be harmed, but he will be altered quite a bit. They then send him and his mom to the fudge room. The other people there find it suspicious that the Oompa Loompas so quickly came up with an elaborate song and dance that mentioned Augustus by name and it mentioned his fate. Willy Wonka dismisses their fears, saying that anyone can improvise, and he proves it by asking Violet to say something, and when she says, "Chewing gum," he says, "Chewing gum is really gross. Chewing gum I hate the most," to try to prove his point. No one is convinced.
9. When Willy Wonka says that chocolate gives people the feeling of being in love, what does Violet's mom say?

Answer: "You don't say."

Willy Wonka shares a fun fact about chocolate and says that eating it gives one the feeling of being in love. Violet's mom says, "You don't say," and smiles at him like she's flirting with him. This makes Willy Wonka uncomfortable and he sits at the back of the boat as far away from her as possible.

It could also be why Willy wants Violet and her mom gone ASAP. They are the next ones to leave the factory after this.
10. Willy Wonka offers chocolate from his river to who?

Answer: Charlie and Grandpa Joe

Willy does this because according to him, they appear to be starving to death. He knows that they are poor and they don't have much to eat at their home. This could also be the first hint that he likes them better than he likes any of the other kids and parents.
