Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This actor took on the role as the narrator of "The Twilight Zone, The Movie". Prior to this, he served as an arch-rival for TV's Batman and was Rocky Balboa's manager. Who was he?

Answer: Burgess Meredith

You don't see Burgess Meredith on screen (unlike Rod Serling during his monologue), but his name does appear in the credits at the end of the movie. Meredith also co-starred in the hit comedy movies, "Foul Play" and "Grumpy Old Men".
2. In the beginning of the movie, Dan Akyroyd and Albert Brooks are driving late at night listening to the Creedence Clearwater Revival song, "Midnight Special", on a cassette tape... when it happens to break. With the radio not working, what do they decide to do?

Answer: Play "Guess the TV Theme Song"

They alternate theme songs ("Sea Quest", "Hawaii-Five-O", "Bonanza") until they both do the theme to "The Twilight Zone". That's when the fun begins! Dan Akyroyd has starred in such movies as "The Coneheads" and "Ghostbusters", and Albert Brooks co-starred in "Broadcast News" and was the voice of Marlin in "Finding Nemo".
3. In the first segment of the movie ("Time Out"), Vic Morrow plays the part of William Connor, a man extremely upset because he didn't get promoted at work. He's been drinking and starts saying terrible things about certain ethnic groups. When he leaves the bar, his adventure begins. During this segment, what group of people does he NOT encounter?

Answer: Mexican Bandits

Vic Morrow's character encounters the Nazis during WWII (at the beginning and end of the segment), the Klan in the South during the 1940s, and U.S. soldiers during the Vietnam War. Vic Morrow tragically died while making this segment of the movie.
4. In the second segment, Scatman Crothers plays the character of Mr. Bloom, who is moving into the Sunnyvale Retirement Home. Later in the story, he wakes some of the residents from their sleep to join him in a game (which is also the name of the segment). Which game was it?

Answer: Kick the Can

When Mr. Bloom awakens the residents, they all turn into children again to show them it's not only good to be young at heart, but to take the good things of life with the bad. "Kick the Can" is similar to Hide and Seek... except for the can, of course.
5. The third segment, "It's A Good Life", is about a teacher (Helen Foley) who backs into a boy's bicycle outside a local bar. She offers the young man (Anthony) a ride home and meets his "family". Helen eventually finds a note written by Anthony's sister, Ethel, saying that they need help because Anthony is not who he says he is. Anthony finds out, is unhappy, and puts Ethel into the TV set... where she is eaten by a cartoon. Who is the actress that played sister Ethel?

Answer: Nancy Cartwright

Nancy Cartwright has the dubious distinction of being the voice of... none other than... Bart Simpson, as well as doing voices for characters in such movies as "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?", "Rugrats Go Wild", and "Kim Possible: The Secret Files".
6. In the final segment, "Nightmare At 20,000 Feet", John Valentine is a passenger who just does not like to fly. During his trip, he has an encounter with a creature outside his window, causing damage to the plane. Panic and fright begin until the landing. What is the first thing John is placed into after landing?

Answer: Straitjacket

After his ordeal in the air, Valentine is placed in a straitjacket. Upon leaving in an ambulance, everyone on the flight believes he was just seeing things and went crazy. Best segment of the film!
7. Who plays the very nervous Mr. John Valentine in the final segment? He is known for his roles as Reverend Shaw Moore in "Footloose" and Dick Solomon on "3rd Rock From the Sun".

Answer: John Lithgow

Lithgow has starred in several feature films including "The World According To Garp", "Cliffhanger", and "Shrek" (as Lord Farquaad). He is also a Golden Globe award and Tony award winner.
8. After Mr. Valentine is in the ambulance, going to the hospital, the driver starts playing the song "Midnight Special". He turns to Mr. Valentine and asks him if he wants to see something really scary... since he just had that scare on the plane. Who plays the driver of the ambulance?

Answer: Dan Aykroyd

The end of the fourth segment is a direct connection with the beginning of the film, where Albert Brooks and Dan Akyroyd are driving down the highway listening to "Midnight Special". Coincidentally, Dan Akyroyd says the same thing to Albert Brooks before transforming into a demon and attacking him. Akyroyd also starred in the comedies "The Blues Brothers" and "Trading Places".
9. When the final scene of the movie fades out to the starry night sky, who ends the film with his monologue?

Answer: Rod Serling

Rod Serling was the creator of the TV show, "The Twilight Zone". He also was the co-writer of the screenplay to the original "Planet of the Apes" movie and the writer of the screenplay, "Seven Days in May."
10. Who were two of the famous directors of "The Twilight Zone: The Movie"?

Answer: Steven Spielberg and John Landis

Spielberg has directed some of the greatest films ever... "E.T.", "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", "Schindler's List", and "Saving Private Ryan" (just to name a few). John Landis directed some greats such as "National Lampoon's Animal House", "The Blues Brothers", and "An American Werewolf in London" (once again... just to name a few). Landis directed the prologue and segment one ("Time Out"), while Spielberg directed segment two ("Kick the Can").
