Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who played Cathy Reno in Elvis Presley's first feature film, "Love Me Tender"?

Answer: Debra Paget

Debra Paget had the honor of being his first female costar. Her brother, Ruell Shayne, had a bit part in the film. She had first appeared with Elvis on "The Milton Berle Show" on June 5, 1956. She started in films with "Cry of the City" when she was fifteen.

Her last movie was 1963's "The Haunted Palace". Contrary to public opinion, Debra did not give Elvis his first on-screen kiss. Jana Judd first kissed him in his next film, "Loving You". Lizabeth Scott and Dolores Hart appeared with Elvis in "Loving You".
2. Who starred in three movies with Elvis; "Clambake", "Girl Happy" and Spinout"?

Answer: Shelley Fabares

A former cast member of "The Donna Reed Show", Shelley was featured in the three Presley flicks. Carl Betz played her father on the TV show and he also played her father in "Spinout". She sang "Read All About It" along with Nina Talbot in "Girl Happy". Elvis' song "Good Luck Charm" knocked Shelley's hit, "Johnny Angel", off the top of the charts in April, 1962. Elvis once confided that Shelley was his favorite costar. Marilyn Mason played the recurring role of Sally Welden on TV's "Ben Casey". She made her big-screen debut opposite Elvis Presley in "The Trouble With Girls" sharing billing with Sheree North and Joyce Van Patten.

Sheree North played Lou Grant's girlfriend on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and Joyce Van Patten was a regular on "The Danny Kaye Show".
3. Another television cast member who co-starred with Elvis was Donna Douglas, who played Elly May Clampett on "The Beverly Hillbillies". In which movie did she appear with him?

Answer: Frankie and Johnny

Donna appeared with him playing Frankie to his Johnny in the 1966 film. Elvis portrayed Johnny, a river boat entertainer with a gambling problem and Donna Douglas' character was a singer on the boat, as well as Johnny's girlfriend. Johnny visited a fortune teller who told him that another gal would bring him luck and the romantic fireworks began.

She sang a number in the film but her voice was dubbed by Eileen Wilson. "Frankie and Johnny" was Donna's first major film appearance. She had earlier been in "Career" and "Lover Come Back" with bit parts.

Her real name is Doris Smith. She was also a former Miss New Orleans.
4. "Change of Habit" in 1969 was Elvis Presley's last feature film. He co-starred with another major television personality in "Change of Habit". Which actress starred with Elvis?

Answer: Mary Tyler Moore

Mary Tyler Moore played Sister Michelle Gallagher to Elvis' Doctor John Carpenter. For the record, she was listed in "The Golden Turkey Awards" as the recipient of the "Ecclesiastical Award for the Worst Performance by an Actor or Actress as a Clergyman or Nun".

It's probably not on the same shelf as her many Emmys and other awards. Mary's first television appearance was in commercials as "The Hotpoint Girl". Barbara Eden starred in "I Dream of Jeannie". Barbara Stanwyk appeared with Elvis in "Roustabout" and Stella Stevens worked with Elvis in "Girls! Girls! Girls!".
5. Which Elvis movie co-starred Ina Balin, Lynn Kellogg and Barbara Werle?

Answer: Charro!

"Charro!" was another 1969 film for Elvis. Elvis portrayed Jess Wade, who was wrongly accused of having stolen a cannon from the Mexican forces. He looked for the real culprits, who turned out to be a gang of criminals. It was the only Presley feature where Elvis sported a beard and the second one which did not feature any singing. Lynn Kellogg appeared in the Broadway production of "Hair". "Charro!" was her film debut.

Ina Balin was the first woman to make a handshake tour of military hospitals in South Vietnam in the 1960s.

She had been on "The Perry Como Show" in the 1950s. Barbara Werle appeared with Elvis in the 1965 movie "Harum Scarum" and was also in the movies "East of Krakatoa" and "Battle of the Bulge".
6. In which release did Elvis have trouble keeping his girls, such as Suzanna Leigh, Marianna Hill and Linda Wong, all happy?

Answer: Paradise, Hawaiian Style

In "Paradise, Hawaiian Style" Elvis had to keep all the gals happy so they would help him make a helicopter charter service successful. Of course, he only succeeded in getting them upset. Suzanna Leigh was a British actress who made her film debut in "Boeing, Boeing". "Paradise, Hawaiian Style" was her second film. Marianna Hill started acting while a teenager and studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. Having beautiful, exotic looks helped her play an Irish lass and a Greek beauty in movies in addition to Elvis' Hawaiian gal. Linda Wong was born in Korea and moved to Hawaii to study Political Science.

She was signed to a movie contract after winning a beauty contest.
7. Who was Elvis Presley's female costar in the 1960 movie "Flaming Star"?

Answer: Barbara Eden

Barbara Eden played Roslyn Pierce opposite Elvis. She originally turned down the role because she was filming a movie with Tommy Noonan and Peter Marshall. British actress Barbara Steel was awarded the role but her accent posed a problem. By the time they needed to make a cast change Barbara was available.

She was an All-American cheerleader who made her film debut in the 1956 movie "Back From Eternity". She was later married to Michael Ansara, who costarred with Elvis in "Harum Scarum". Anne Helm and Joanna Moore were in the cast of "Follow That Dream." Joan Blackman was in "Blue Hawaii" and "Kid Galahad".
8. Who portrayed Peggy Van Alden with Elvis in "Jailhouse Rock"?

Answer: Judy Tyler

Judy Tyler's birth name was Judith Hess. When she was 17 she played Princess Winterspringsummerfall on "The Howdy Doody Show". Her father, Julian, was a trumpet player with Benny Goodman. Her film debut was in "Baby Goes Calypso" in 1957. "Jailhouse Rock" was her second and final film appearance.

She died in a car accident soon after the film wrapped. Carolyn Jones appeared in Presley's "King Creole" and went on to star as Morticia Addams. Joan O'Brien was Elvis' love interest in "It Happened at the World's Fair" and Angela Lansbury played his mother in "Blue Hawaii".
9. Which actress/dancer was Elvis' female interest in "G I Blues"?

Answer: Juliet Prowse

Born in Bombay, India, and raised in South Africa, Julie's first film was "Gentlemen Marry Brunettes" in 1955. "G. I. Blues" was her third. She was briefly engaged to Frank Sinatra and in 1965 she had her own TV series, "Mona McLuskey", for one season. Ann Margaret was Elvis' costar in "Viva Las Vegas". Hope Lange and Tuesday Weld enjoyed Presley's company in "Wild in the Country".
10. Which "Bond Girl" actress appeared with Elvis in "Fun In Acapulco"?

Answer: Ursula Andress

Swiss-born Ursula worked in the Bond films, "Dr. No" and "Casino Royale". She was the daughter of a diplomat and was married to director-actor John Derek from 1957 to 1966. Elvis was never actually in Acapulco during the filming of the movie. Sue Ann Langdon portrayed Madame Mijanou in "Roustabout". Julie Adams and Jocelyn Lane were with Presley in "Tickle Me".
