Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Say fink par rye fate rye hen

Answer: Saving Private Ryan

"Saving Private Ryan" starred Tom Hanks and centered around a group of soldiers who survived the D-Day landings at Normandy and were summarily given the task to track down a certain Private Ryan, whose brothers had all been killed during the war. Though the main plot line of the movie is fictional, many of the details of the D-Day invasions were true to history.
2. Gait he's burr egg

Answer: Gettysburg

Coming in at over four hours in length, "Gettysburg" is the longest movie in this quiz. A project of Ted Turner that he had originally conceived for a miniseries on his TNT network, "Gettysburg" depicts the events that unfolded over the three-day battle that was one of the bloodiest of the American Civil War. Sam Elliot as General Buford and Jeff Daniels as Colonel Chamberlain provided some of the most dramatic and poignant moments of the movie.
3. Thick rate disc hip

Answer: The Great Escape

Starring Steve McQueen, "The Great Escape" is based on a book by the same name. The story chronicles the escape attempt of several hundred allied prisoners of war being held by the German Luftwaffe. The attempt is made through the digging of a massive tunnel underneath the POW camp. Also starring were James Garner, Charles Bronson, and Donald Pleasence.
4. Beret of art

Answer: Braveheart

Based on the true story of William Wallace and his struggle for Scotland's independence, "Braveheart" won five Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director for Mel Gibson, who also played the title role.
5. Cods send chin hair rails

Answer: Gods and Generals

Though premiering ten years after "Gettysburg," "Gods and Generals" is the prequel to Ted Turner's other 1993 war epic. It features many of the same cast members from "Gettysburg" and focuses on the first battle of Bull Run, and the battles of Fredericksburg and Chancelorsville. Robert Duvall replaces Martin Sheen as General Robert E. Lee and Stephen Lang, who portrayed General Pickett in "Gettysburg" plays the part of Stonewall Jackson. Reviews were mixed as many praised the intense and realistic battle sequences but disliked the soliloquy-like speeches given by various characters.
6. Maim fist bay yell

Answer: Memphis Belle

Though based on a real airplane of the same name that was the first to survive its tour of duty during the war in Europe, "Memphis Belle" is largely a work of fiction. The story chronicles the 25th and final mission of the Memphis Belle and the crew's struggle in coping with what will be their most dangerous mission yet.

The movie featured Matthew Modine as the plane's pilot, Sean Astin as the scrappy ball turret gunner, and Harry Connick Jr. in his big screen debut.
7. Go lore he

Answer: Glory

Earning Denzel Washington his first Academy Award, "Glory" depicts the real story of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, one of the first units in the U.S. army to be made up entirely of African-American soldiers. The film also won Oscars for cinematography and for sound editing.
8. Gall had he ate hair

Answer: Gladiator

One of three Best Picture winners at the Academy Awards found in this quiz (along with "Braveheart" mentioned above as well as "All Quiet on the Western Front" below), "Gladiator" follows a gladiator's rise from the depths of despair and humility. Russell Crowe portrays Maximus who seeks to avenge the death of his family and his emperor at the hands of Commodus who is portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix. "Gladiator" also won Oscars for best actor (Crowe), best visual effects, costume design, and sound.
9. Wee where's hauled jeers

Answer: We Were Soldiers

The only Vietnam War movie of the quiz, "We Were Soldiers" is the second to feature Mel Gibson in a starring role and Sam Elliott in a superbly played supporting role. Receiving mixed reviews, the movie follows the real events of the Battle of Ia Drang, the first significant engagement of U.S. and Vietnamese troops in the Vietnam War.
10. Hulk why hat dawn thaw hast turn for hunt

Answer: All Quiet on the Western Front

Released in 1930, "All Quiet on the Western Front" follows a group of young German soldiers through through a harrowing depiction of World War I. Though enthusiastic on the outset, the young soldiers learn the horrors of war in a brutal fashion. If you don't know what the significance of the butterfly is, I certainly won't spoil it for you! "All Quiet on the Western Front" along with "Memphis Belle" was selected to the Library of Congress' National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
