Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A depressed drunk teams up with a midget to get jobs as a mall-santa and an elf. At the end of the season they steal money and items from the mall, and move on to another mall. They do this until they are caught and asked to share their earnings. While dealing with this, the drunk meets a kid with a bad life, and gets into the Christmas spirit by trying to help the kid, and himself, out.

Answer: Bad Santa

This movie stars Billy Bob Thornton as the mall-santa. "The Santa Clause" is a classic holiday-movie about a man taking the place of Santa because he accidentally killed the original Santa. "It's a Wonderful Life" is about a good man attempting to kill himself, yet being convinced not to by his guardian angel. "Big Fish" is about a father's unbelievable life-stories, and his son trying to find out if they happened or not.
2. A criminal psychologist wakes up as a patient in the mental institution that she once worked at. She is accused of the murder of her husband, but she can't remember it. All she remembers is a girl that she came into contact with, a girl who has been dead for the past four years.

Answer: Gothika

"Ghost" is about a ghost trying to save his girlfriend from the people that killed him. "The Others" is about a family living in a house that ghosts have recently decided to haunt. "The Shining" is about a family that has taken a job as caretakers of a huge hotel in the mountains, but the father is descending into insanity. "Gothika" was released on the same day as "The Cat in the Hat" yet still did quite well.
3. This comedic film, starring Mike Myers, is based on a Dr. Seuss book about a couple of kids left home to their boredom. At some point a cat wearing a striped top-hat enters their house and messes up their house to let the kids learn some lessons.

Answer: The Cat in the Hat

"The Grinch" was based on another Dr. Seuss book about a green man who steals all the presents from an unsuspecting civilization that rests below the mountain he lives on. "The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat" is a half-hour cartoon about the Grinch and the Cat in the Hat meeting and becoming rivals. "The Hoober Bloob Highway" is another cartoon about a baby before birth being told about life. "The Cat in the Hat" stars Mike Myers as the Cat.
4. A baby, Buddy, sneaks into Santa's toy-sack on Christmas, and is raised as an elf. When he is thirty-years old, his elf-father decides to tell him that he isn't an elf. Then Buddy travels to the city to find his biological father, but he has to adjust to a world he has no knowledge of.

Answer: Elf

"The Santa Clause" is about a guy who accidentally kills Santa, and is given the job instead. "Homeward Bound" is about a couple of dogs, and a cat that are trying to get home after they are left at a farm by their masters, while their masters are on vacation. "Elf" stars Will Ferrell as Buddy, and is quite funny.
5. A hooker is raped, and she starts killing all of the men that want her services. While she is killing, she is keeping up a relationship with a woman.

Answer: Monster

"He, She and It" is actually a novel by Marge Piercy about a cyborg, and a woman in love trying to save their freetown from destruction. A neat Sci-fi novel for Sci-fi fans. "Monster" is based on a true story about Aileen Wuornos, and her career in murder. Charlize Theron gave an amazing performance as Aileen that made me feel sorry for Aileen more so than her victims.
6. An old man befriends a young boy, and his friends. Through this friendship with the boy, the old man passes the ability to see other peoples' thoughts.

Answer: Hearts in Atlantis

"The Sixth Sense" is a horror movie about a boy who can see dead people. "Pi" is a psychological thriller that I haven't seen. "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is about a man who goes to a famous company to erase the unpleasant memories of his last relationship. Anthony Hopkins starred in "Hearts in Atlantis", which is one of my favorite movies.
7. The new Santa Clause must find a Mrs. Clause before he loses his "Santa-powers".

Answer: The Santa Clause 2

"The Santa Clause" is the tale of how he became the new Santa Clause while "Hearts in Atlantis" is about an old man that gives the power to see the thoughts of others to a young boy. "The Santa Clause 2" stars Tim Allen as Santa.
8. When the Earth enters the tail of a large comet, havoc breaks loose. All machines come alive and start killing people. A group of survivors find themselves trapped in a truck stop as trucks wait for them outside.

Answer: Maximum Overdrive

This is not the plot of the classic "Poltergeist", which spawned two sequels, and earned its place in film history. It is also not "The Ring", which is based on a Japanese film, which is based on a book by Suzuki Koji (aka "Japan's Stephen King"). Some may have been confused as "Trucks" is a remake of "Maximum Overdrive".

The difference between them is that "Trucks" doesn't involve the tail of a comet, but a chemical cloud in place of it.
9. Right before a plane leaves the airport, carrying a class of students going on a field trip, a passenger has a vision of the plane exploding and freaks out. Some of the students get off with him. Moments later the plane explodes, and leaves the students in shock. Days after that happens, some of the students start dying in apparent suicides, or elaborate coincidences as Death tracks them down, one by one.

Answer: Final Destination

This isn't the plot of "The Butterfly Effect", which is about a man who is trying to help people by going back in time, and changing something, but ends up causing more problems than he's solving. "Final Destination 2" is the inferior sequel about the people that lived because of the people that died in this first one. "Grim Reaper" is a 1981 film about a group of people on an uninhabited Greek island with a rotten-smelling madman that wants to kill them.
10. A couple's son is in critical condition. The husband makes a decision to buy a robot that will act and behave like their son. However, when the son comes back the robot is treated badly, so the mother, who loves the robot like a son, leaves him out in the forest so he won't get destroyed. As the robot tries to get back to his mother he meets many interesting robots and people, and learns many things about life and fairy tales that have the same effect on him as they would on a human-child.

Answer: A.I.: Artificial Intelligence

While this movie makes numerous references to "Pinocchio", and has a very similar plot about a fake boy trying to become real, it isn't the same movie. "E.T.: Extra Terrestrial" is about an alien stranded on Earth trying to get back. "Terminator" is about a killing machine sent back in time to kill the mother of the man who overcomes the machine army that takes over the world in the future. "A.I.: Artificial Intelligence" was directed by Stephen Spielberg, and stars Haley Joel Osment.
11. A man hears about a company called Lacuna Inc., which has the ability to erase troubling memories. He decides to do it because he just got out of a relationship that he wishes he still had. Half-way through, however, he decides to keep the memories, yet he can't communicate that with the doctors doing the procedure, so he starts smuggling the targeted memories into other parts of his mind, messing up other memories.

Answer: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

This movie has been advertised without its actual title to make the illusion that Lacuna Inc. exists, so some may have gotten this wrong. "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" stars Jim Carrey, Elijah Wood, Kate Winslet, David Cross, Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Wilkinson, and Ellen Pompeo.
12. Siamese twins go off to Hollywood so that one of them can become an actor. While there they meet some interesting people, including Cher. Also while there, they start wrestling with the idea of getting the operation that will separate them.

Answer: Stuck on You

This movie stars Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear as the Siamese twins. "Me, Myself and Irene" shares the same writers and directors, the Farrelly brothers.
13. A Reverse-Engineer in the near-future does a job that is so secret that he must get a memory-wipe afterword. When he is tracked down by the government and questioned, he realizes he has to find out what he did for that job. The only things he can use to find out, however, are nineteen clues that he sent himself to prevent whatever is gonna happen.

Answer: Paycheck

"Dreamcatcher" is about a group of telepathic friends out in the woods where an alien ship has landed. "Kill Bill" is about an assassin who was killed by her boss, yet was revived by paramedics, and is now hunting her boss, Bill, down. "The Shining" is about a haunted hotel that is driving the caretaker insane.
14. A UFO crashed into the Earth many, many centuries ago. Bobbi Anderson has begun to dig this UFO up after tripping over its tip. Now everyone is changing into something new, something improved. However, they are growing steadily more violent and unforgiving. This is the sort of alien invasion that has been fantacized about for decades, but this is a mental invasion, rather than a physical one.

Answer: The Tommyknockers

"Resident Evil: Nemesis" is actually the title of a videogame. "Resident Evil" is the movie based on the videogame series "Resident Evil: Nemesis" is a part of. "Dawn of the Dead" is the sequel to "Night of the Living Dead", and takes place inside of a mall while the rest of the world fights off overwhelming hordes of zombies. "Mars Attacks" is a comedy about martians invading Earth. "The Tommyknockers" is based on a long Stephen King book.
15. After surviving constant attacks by demons that take over the human body, Ash is flung into the past where people think he is the one that will save them from the Deadites. They want him to go find the Necronomicon, which will not only save them, but allow Ash to go back to his own time. Unfortunately after getting the Necronomicon, Ash awakens an army of skeletons, and unwillingly dooms the entire kingdom that thought him their savior. Now he wants to help them save themselves.

Answer: Army of Darkness

"Evil Dead" and "Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn" are this movie's predecessors, which both take place during modern times with only a small group of people involved in the story, rather than the entire kingdom in "Army of Darkness". "Magic: The Gathering" is actually the name of a popular card game that I think would make a very interesting movie. I hope you enjoyed this entire quiz series.
