Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The movie began with the scene of President Lincoln's assassination in the theatre. At the same time, Patrick's grandfather managed to decode a message from a stranger's diary. After he solved the riddle, he was shot by the stranger. He quickly threw the piece of diary into the fireplace, which led us to think that the piece of paper was lost forever. Nonetheless, that piece of paper remained today. It was shown by a man to the public, at a speech by Benjamin Franklin Gates. Who was he?

Answer: Mitch Wilkinson

Mitch Wilkinson's great great grandfather was the stranger who killed Patrick's grandfather. Later, Mitch also searched for the lost treasure, together with Benjamin Franklin. The former was the antagonist, while the latter was the protagonist in this movie.

Patrick's grandfather managed to decode the words "treasure" and "gold". When the stranger tried to shoot him, he desperately threw that piece of diary into the fire.

Many years later, Mitch Wilkinson showed up in a speech given by Benjamin Gates. He surprised the public and the media by showing that piece of the diary. In order to stop the humiliation and speculation by the public that Patrick's grandfather was a co-conspirator in the assassination of President Lincoln, Benjamin started his adventure to search for the lost treasure.
2. At the back of the missing diary page, there were clues pointing to the location of the next clue. However, the clues were written in paired letters. Which of the following was the five-letter keyword that was used to solve the clue?

Answer: Death

Before Patrick's grandfather passed away, he told him: "The debt all man pay." This was the riddle for the five-letter keyword. Benjamin figured out that the keyword was death. Before this, Riley tried all the words alphabetically to solve the riddle, using his laptop. He tried up until the word bacon. Then, when he typed in the word death, he managed to solve the riddle, which gave the answer of the next clue, namely "Laboulaye".

Édouard Laboulaye, full name Édouard René Lefèvre de Laboulaye, was a French jurist, who was known for his idea of the creation of the French Statue of Liberty.
3. Benjamin continued his journey in search of the treasure. The only clue he had so far led him to the Statue of Liberty. However, his father, Patrick told him that there were all together three Statues of Liberty in the world. Which one did Benjamin and Riley go to, to obtain their next clue?

Answer: The one near the Seine river, Paris, France

The previous clue "Laboulaye" stated that the Statue of Liberty in France was the correct one. Edward Laboulaye was a French jurist who came up with the idea of the creation of the French Statue of Liberty.

In Paris, Riley used his remote control helicopter to obtain the next clue. The policemen there later gave him a ticket, because the buzzing noise of the helicopter disturbed the residents early in the morning.
4. There were two Resolute Desks in the world. The first one was located in Buckingham Palace, London. The other one was at the South Wall in the Oval Office in the White House. Both of these Resolute Desks had four drawers that served as the "dials" to key in four numbers, which also happened to be a year. The question is, were the passwords for both of the Resolute Desks the same?

Answer: Yes

The year 1819 was the year when Queen Victoria was born. Benjamin tried those numbers in the first place and they proved to be the wrong combination. Later, he managed to open the drawers when he tried 1876, which was the year in the inscription of the statue in Paris.
5. After obtaining the first plaque that was hidden in the Resolute Desk in Buckingham Palace, Benjamin realized that they did not understand the symbols on the plaque. Finally, he looked for Emily Appleton in the University of Maryland to translate the message on the plaque. Who was Emily Appleton?

Answer: Benjamin's mother

At first, Benjamin's father, Patrick, refused to go and meet his wife, Emily. They had not spoken for 32 years. Later, after Benjamin's persuasion, they headed off to the University of Maryland to seek help from Emily.
6. One of the riddles revealed the name of the city of Cibola. According to Benjamin, what was the literal meaning of the word "Cibola"?

Answer: The City of Gold

However, according to Benjamin's mother, Emily, the word "Cibola" meant the centre of the golden cities. Many people believed that this city did not exist in the real world.
7. With the help of Abigail's new boyfriend, Connor, who was the curator of the White House, Benjamin and Abigail managed to slip into the Oval Office of the White House. There, they saw the symbol of an eagle clutching a scroll, which led them to "The Book of Secrets". The location of the book was only known to the present President of the USA. On which occasion did Benjamin kidnap the President?

Answer: During the birthday party of the President

Benjamin disguised himself as a waiter and he tricked the President and led him into a secret tunnel in an abandoned tunnel. While there, he had the chance to speak to the President alone. Later, the President revealed to Benjamin that "The Book of Secrets" did exist.

He also told Benjamin that the book was kept in the Library of Congress. Before Benjamin left, the President asked him to do a favor for him by taking a look at page 47 of the Book of Secrets. These details, of course, proved to be the vital information for the next movie sequel.
8. Together with both of his parents, Abigail and Riley, Benjamin set off on his journey to the last location of the hidden treasure. Where was it?

Answer: Mount Rushmore

Mitch agreed to tell the clues that were contained in the diary to Benjamin, with the condition that he got the credit for finding the treasure. From his next clue, Benjamin knew that the clue only showed itself during a rainy day. So, he asked the others to sprinkle water on the rock. Eventually, Abigail found the location of the switch, which triggered the entrance to the place where the treasure was hidden.
9. In the end, Benjamin was trapped in the location of the treasure and he drowned.

Answer: False

It was the antagonist, Mitch Wilkinson, who drowned at the end of the movie. He was too greedy and selfish for wanting the credit of finding the treasure
10. In the final scene of the movie, Riley's red Ferrari was returned to him, together with a letter from the White House. What was written in the letter?

Answer: Tax free

In the beginning of the movie, Riley's car was towed off when he was having his book-signing session in a bookshop. Throughout the movie, he kept complaining about the tax he was paying. The note was sent to him by the President as a token of appreciation for Riley for finding the treasure.
