Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "I was in a Monty Python movie once," Peanut says, looking rather proud of herself. "It was back in 1979, and I think it was the third Monty Python movie. It was a hilarious movie - and there was a great dungeon scene. Do you remember the name of that comedy?"

Answer: Monty Python's Life of Brian

Often called simply "Life of Brian", the film follows the life of Brian Cohen, who is mistaken for the Messiah. The dungeon scene, the quote "He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!" and the song "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" have become three of the film's most memorable moments.
Taking advantage of sets used in the filming of 1977's "Jesus of Nazareth", the majority of the film was shot in Tunisia. The film was not without controversy, and was picketed and/or banned in several locations.
2. "I played a French peasant back in 1998, and it was a great experience," Peanut tells her neighbor. "Leonardo DiCaprio was terrific playing both the king and his twin, and Jeremy Irons played Aramis with style. But I was truly impressed with Gerard Depardieu as Porthos. Do you know which movie I was in?"

Answer: The Man in the Iron Mask

Based loosely on Alexandre Dumas' novel "The Vicomte of Bragelonne: Ten Years Later", the film centers around the legendary Three Musketeers. The aging protectors of the French king have gone their own ways, but when the cruel King Louis XIV sends a soldier to his death just so he can have the soldier's wife, retirement is suspended. D'Artagnan does not wish to be disloyal to the king, but when he discovers the existence of the king's good twin brother, who has been imprisoned in the castle and his face hidden behind an iron mask, he has to consider the possibilities. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich, Gérard Depardieu, Gabriel Byrne and Hugh Laurie.
3. "I was in 1987's "The Princess Bride", as part of the mob cheering for Princess Buttercup," Peanut says, handing Martha a handful of photos. "I took pictures of most of the sets - including the dungeon where Westley was tortured. Do you remember what that torture chamber was called?"

Answer: The Pit of Despair

A tale of romance, swordplay, intrigue and danger, "The Princess Bride" was based on a 1973 novel written by William Goldman. The poor farm boy Westley and the young lady named Buttercup fall in love, but 'happily ever after' is endangered by the sly plotting of Prince Humperdinck and Count Rugen. Westley has gone missing, feared dead by Buttercup, and Prince Humperdinck has decided to make her his bride.

A scheming Sicilian, a vengeful Spaniard and a Turkish giant complicate matters, and Westley eventually finds himself in the Pit of Despair, conversing with Count Rugen's assistant - The Albino. Starring Cary Elwes and Robin Wright, the film was directed by Rob Reiner.
4. "I played a castle wench in 2000's "Dungeons and Dragons", which starred Justin Whalin and Marlon Wayans," Peanut reminisces, leafing through her photo album. "They played the characters named Ridley and Snails, and became the unlikely heroes of the movie. Do you know what their occupations were?"

Answer: thieves

Based on the fantastical world of the role-playing game "Dungeons & Dragons", the film is an action-filled battle between the mages and the commoners, the Gold Dragons and the Red Dragons, and Emperess Savina's desperate bid to save the people of Izmer, and herself, from the evil Mage Profion's plotting. With the intent of nothing more than the theft of certain magical items from the Magic School, Ridley and Snails suddenly find themselves embroiled in the conflict, and increasingly involved in, and committed to, the battle. The film also stars Jeremy Irons, Thora Birch and Robert Miano.
5. "I was very young when I was in "Ladyhawke", which was released in 1985," Peanut says, gazing fondly at the movie poster tacked to the wall. "Michelle Pfeiffer and Rutger Hauer starred as a pair of cursed lovers, who end up involved with a thief who has escaped the dungeons of Aquila. Played by Matthew Broderick, do you remember the thief's nickname?"

Answer: The Mouse

Set in Europe during the 12th century, "Ladyhawke" centers around the characters of Etienne of Navarre and Isabeau d'Anjou, two lovers who have run afoul of the madly jealous Bishop of Aquila. Cursed to be always together, yet always apart, by night Etienne is a wolf, and by day Isabeau is a hawk. With The Mouse's prowess at navigating the city and avoiding the guards, Etienne plans to do something to break the curse - something that may actually render the curse unbreakable. Directed by Richard Donner, the film also stars John Wood as the Bishop of Aquila and Leo McKern as Father Imperius.
6. "I was an extra in "The Fifth Musketeer" back in 1979," Peanut tells the grocery store clerk. "Did you know that in that movie, Alan Hale, Jr. played Porthos - the same role his father played in 1939!"

Answer: True

Set in 17th century France, King Louis XIV, played by Beau Bridges, did not know he had a twin brother, Philippe (also played by Beau Bridges), but when he finds out, he imprisons Philippe in the Bastille. In a diabolical bid to retain his throne and increase his popularity, the king plots a staged assassination of himself. But, the Musketeers have their own plan in the works.
The movie had a tagline of "Pure adventure is back...for the fun of it!", which sums up the movie quite neatly.
Alan Hale, Sr. portrayed Porthos in 1939's "The Man in the Iron Mask". And, Alan Hale, Jr. portrayed Porthos, Jr. in 1952's "At Sword Point", a sequel to Dumas' classic "The Three Musketeers", featuring the derring-do of the Musketeers' offspring.
7. "These were my lines with Rex Everhart on "Beauty and the Beast" in 1991," Peanut says, handing Suzi a tattered script. "Rex voiced the part of Maurice. The Beast imprisoned Maurice in the dungeon, but he was too important for Belle to let him languish there. Do you know who Maurice was to Belle?"

Answer: father

A Disney classic, "Beauty and the Beast" is set in a small French town, where a young lady named Belle lives with her father, Maurice. She is desired by the dastardly Gaston, but she wants nothing to do with him, preferring to read and dream about life beyond her small town.

When her father inadvertently arrives at the Beast's castle, and is subsequently imprisoned, Belle's world suddenly becomes much more complicated. Belle was voiced by Paige O'Hara and the Beast by Robby Benson, and just a few of the other voice actors include Angela Lansbury, Jerry Orbach and David Ogden Stiers.

A commercial and critical success, the film was nominated for several awards, and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
8. "I had a minor part in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix", where Harry was put on trial," Peanut tells a friend. "I was part of the Wizengamot court, which was located in the dungeons of Hogwarts."

Answer: False

The Wizengamot - the high Wizard court of law - was actually held in a dungeon at the Ministry of Magic. In 2007's "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix", Lord Voldemort is back, but the Ministry is cracking down on anyone who dares to say so. The Order of the Phoenix, based at 12 Grimmuald Place, is working in secrecy to plan for the day Voldemort and his Death Eaters openly attack. Flouted at every turn in his attempts to convince the Ministry that something needs to be done about Voldemort, Harry and his friends form 'Dumbledore's Army' in a desperate attempt to ready themselves for whatever evil may be coming their way.
9. "In 1993's "The Three Musketeers", I got to flirt with Kiefer Sutherland," Peanut whispers to her friend, Liz. "He played Athos, while Charlie Sheen played Aramis. And, it was a bit of a horror, but do you know who played Cardinal Richelieu?"

Answer: Tim Curry

"The Three Musketeers", set in 1625 Paris, features D'Artagnan, the son of a Musketeer, who wishes to become a Musketeer himself. Arriving in Paris he learns that the Musketeers have been disbanded. Through a series of unfortunate incidents, D'Artagnan finds himself involved in duels with Athos, Arammis and Porthos, but ends up joining them in opposition of Cardinal Richelieu and his machinations.

Their exploits eventually lead them to the dungeons of the palace, where they must rescue King Louis XIII and his Queen, Anne of Austria, before Richelieu can murder them. Oliver Platt played Porthos, Chris O'Donnell played D'Artagnan, and Rebecca De Mornay played Milady De Winter (Sabine). Tim Curry first appeared as Dr. Frank N. Furter in "The Rocky Horror Show" in June, 1973, on stage in London, and portrayed him until 1975 in different venues.

He reprised his role in 1975's "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", and the film became a cult classic which is shown regularly at midnight in many theaters.

In addition to the "Rocky Horror" role, he has appeared on numerous television programs, acted in many films and done a large amount of voice work.
10. "Back in 1991 I was an extra in one of the scariest movies ever made!" Peanut says, shivering at the memory. "The whole movie was scary, but there was one line spoken by the character named 'Buffalo Bill' that just sent goosebumps down my arms. He said, "It rubs the lotion on its skin..." Do you remember that movie?"

Answer: The Silence of the Lambs

1991's "The Silence of the Lambs" is based on a 1988 book written by Thomas Harris. The plot follows a novice FBI agent named Clarice Starling and her psychological battle with the imprisoned serial killer, Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Hoping his insights and ego-driven superiority will help the FBI catch the serial killer known as Buffalo Bill, Starling is tasked with dealing with Lecter, and facing her own private demons as well. Time is racing by, however, for Buffalo Bill has kidnapped a senator's daughter, and is planning on skinning her corpse - and Starling needs to find the monster before his gruesome work is done.

The film stars Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, Scott Glenn and Ted Devine. And, while the dry well located in Buffalo Bill's basement is not what comes to mind as a typical dungeon, Webster's defines a dungeon as 'a dark underground cell, vault or prison'.

The young woman trapped there must have certainly considered that well a dungeon.
