quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The actor who portrays Superman is Christopher Reeves.

Answer: False

No. This was a tricky start. The actor's name is actually Christopher Reeve. There is no "s" on the end of Reeve.
2. Which of the following characters is not a foe of Superman in "Superman II?"

Answer: Ursala

General Zod, of course, is the leader of the three super villains from the planet Krypton. Lex Luthor is Superman's long time nemesis on Earth who finds a way to include himself in General Zod's plan to kill the son of Jor-El and rule Earth. Rocky is the bully that beats up Superman (Clark Kent)in the diner. Ursa is one of the super villains.

Note: Ursala is not a character in this movie.
3. What do the terrorists in the Eiffel Tower use to hold the city of Paris in peril in order to demand ransom?

Answer: A Hydrogen Bomb

The answer is the Hydrogen Bomb which becomes a pivotal part in the movie. Unknown to Superman, when he detonates the bomb in outerspace, it breaks the Phantom Zone, which was used to permanently imprison General Zod, Non, and Ursa in "Superman the Movie". They are now accidentally released to wreak havoc on Earth.
4. Lex Luthor breaks out of prison with the help of his assistant. What is his/her name?

Answer: Miss Teschmacher

Miss Teschmacher rescues Lex with a hot air balloon. She also tries to rescue Otis, but he weighs too much and causes the balloon to begin sinking. So Lex disconnects the ladder and leaves his prisonmate/assistant behind.
5. Lex Luther then sets out to find Superman's home. He uses a "little black box" that tracks a certain type of wave to help him find Superman's fortress. What does the "little black box" track?

Answer: Alpha waves

"North Miss Teschmacher. North! North!"
6. What happens in outer space when Superman detonates the Eiffel Tower bomb?

Answer: The Phantom Zone is broken by the concussion of the hydrogen bomb freeing three Kryptonian villains.

The villains, that were thought to be permanently jailed in the Phantom Zone back on Krypton, are freed. They then demolish a crew of astronauts on the moon. Next, they make their way toward Earth (they think the planet is called Houston because they heard an astronaut calling to Houston for help).
7. What are the names of the three villains who make their way to earth?

Answer: General Zod, Non, and Ursa

The three villains are General Zod, Non, and Ursa. They all have the same powers as Superman, although Non has trouble flying, using his x-ray vision, and the lasers from his eyes. Non also cannot speak. General Zod has a vendetta against the son of Jor-el, and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Ursa, is a supreme villianess, and shows her strength on numerous occasions.
8. Which of the three villains demonstrates that he/she can walk on water?

Answer: General Zod

It's General Zod. "So this is the planet Houston? A very strange surface."
9. The villains all have the same super powers as Superman.

Answer: True

The closer they get to a planet with a yellow sun (Earth), their increased molecular density gives them unlimited powers just like Superman.
10. When the super villains run into the sheriff and the deputy of West Houston, the General refers to the deputy's gun as what?

Answer: "A crude noise maker"

General Zod recognizes the gun as some sort of weapon, but demonstrates that he does not know how to use it correctly. With the shotgun pointed at his chest, he pulls the trigger and shoots himself. Of course it has no effect. He throws the gun to the ground and refers to it as "a crude noise maker."
11. It is the General's intention to rule Earth, so he goes to the White House and commands the President to kneel before him. Is the President the first person to kneel before the General?

Answer: No

No. One of the White House staff steps forward first and immediately kneels before General Zod. General Zod says, "You are not the President. No one who rules so many could possibly kneel so quickly." The real President then steps forward and announces that he is the President, and will kneel if it will save lives. To which General Zod smugly replies, "It will. Starting with your own." So, on behalf of the people of the world, he kneels.
12. Meanwhile, Superman has taken Lois to his fortress to show her and tell her the whole truth about himself. While there, he does the unthinkable and steps into a molecule chamber, which exposes him to the rays of the red Krypton sun. This takes away his super powers. He does this because if he wants to "live his life with a mortal, then he must live as a mortal."

Answer: True

Yes this is true. He is now a mortal man, able to bleed like a mortal man, hurt like a mortal man, and die like a mortal man.
13. Lois and Clark go out to eat at a diner, and Clark gets beat up. What is the name of the person who beats up Clark?

Answer: Rocky

Yes it is Rocky. Rocky steals Clark's seat and begins to hit on Lois. Clark takes exception to this, and tells Rocky he needs to be taught some manners. He then asked Rocky to step outside. When Clark turns around, Rocky punches him in the back sending him crashing through a plate glass window.
14. While at that diner, Clark learns about the three super villains and the devastation they have caused. Lois encourages Clark to go back to the fortress to try and find a way to get his super powers back.

Answer: False

Clark actually insists that he must go back and try anything he can to get his super powers back. Lois tells him that he can't go back. He says he must.
15. When Clark goes back to the fortress, he is able to regain his super powers.

Answer: True

True. The green crystal which originally built the fortress beacons him. With it, he is able to recreate the molecule chamber and reverse the effects of the rays of the red Krypton sun. He regains his super powers and returns to Metropolis to confront the super villains.
16. When Superman confronts the General and the other two super villains in Metropolis, what is his original strategy?

Answer: To try and defeat all three of them.

Originally, he tries to defeat all three of them right there in the city.
17. Which super villain does Superman have an underground fight with?

Answer: Non

Yes, it was a mighty battle with Non. Incidentally, Superman wins this battle. After quite a struggle you hear a loud grunt from Superman, and then you see Non come hurling up into the air and through a building. Ouch! That must have been one heck of a punch! Note: Norm is not a character in this movie.
18. Superman soon realizes that he can't battle the three super villains and protect the people of Metropolis all at the same time. What does he do?

Answer: He tries to lure the villains out of the city and awaits their arrival back at his fortress.

He flies away hoping to spare the lives of the innocent people. He returns to his fortress hoping to lure the villains away from the city. There he awaits their arrival.
19. How do the super villains find Superman's fortress?

Answer: They kidnap Lex Luthor and make him show the way to the fortress. They also kidnap Lois Lane to increase their advantage.

They kidnap Lex Luthor and make him show them the way. They also decide that it would be a good idea to kidnap Lois to increase their advantage over Superman.
20. Superman is waiting with a strategy to defeat the super villians if they arrive at his fortress?

Answer: True

As soon as they arrive and he sees that Lois is safe, Superman employs a number of tactics to try and defeat General Zod, Non, and Ursa once and for all.
21. Superman gains the advantage when he is able to lull the General into a trap. He grabs the General and puts him into a head lock threatening to kill him. What allows the General to regain the upper hand?

Answer: The other two villians each grab Lois by an arm and threaten to tear her apart if Superman doesn't release the General.

Superman is forced to let the General go when the other two villains grab Lois, and threaten to tear her apart if he does not release the General.
22. Who tells the General about the molecule chamber and how he could use it to his advatage to take Superman's super powers away?

Answer: Lex Luthor

"Luthor, you poisonous snake!"
23. The General orders Superman into the molecule chamber. He orders Lex Luthor to activate the chamber with the crystal. When Superman comes out of the molecule chamber, the General orders Superman to kneel before him, take his hand, and swear eternal loyalty him and tell him that he will obey his commands. Does Superman do this?

Answer: No

He does kneel before General Zod, and he does take his hand, but what happens next suprises everyone.
24. What does Superman do when he kneels before the General and takes his hand?

Answer: He crushes the General's hand, lifts him up with one arm, and throws him into the abyss.

He tricks everyone. In the meantime he had reconfigured the molecule chamber so that everyone outside of the chamber would be exposed to the rays of the red Krypton sun, while he was safe inside the chamber. He then pretends to come out of the chamber as a mortal man.

He kneels before General Zod, takes the General's hand as though he were going to swear eternal loyalty to him, then he crushes the General's hand, lifts him up over his head and throws him into the abyss to die. Non, not realizing that he had lost his super powers, tries to fly at Superman, but instead falls like a rock straight into the abyss. Next, Lois, having realized the trick that Superman had pulled off, releases herself from Ursa's headlock, said,"you know something, you're a real pain in the neck," and punches Ursa right in the face knocking her backwards into the abyss to die. Superman and Lois then fly away leaving Lex Luthor there in the freezing cold of the North Pole to find his own way home. Poor Lex!
25. What is Superman's last act of the movie?

Answer: He brings the dome and American Flag back to the White House and apologizes to the President for having been away for so long.

Superman does leave Luthor in the north pole, and yes he does hypnotize Lois so that she would not remember who he is. Then comes my favorite part of the movie. He goes back to the diner dressed as Clark Kent and spins Rocky silly in his chair, sits him in his tray of breakfast, and sends him for a ride down the bar and into the pinball machine. Everyone looks at him wondering how he has the strength to do this to Rocky the bully, to which he replies, "Oh, I've been working out." But his final act of the movie is to replace the dome and American Flag at the White House and to apologize to the President for having been away for so long.

He then flies up into space while the theme music and the credits begin to role. Please note that I entitled this quiz "Superman II" Four Against One. I was including Lex Luthor as one of the villains with whom Superman had to contend. I hope you enjoyed this quiz. Please rate it when you are finished. Thanks!
