Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Cimmerian Paladin

Answer: Batman

"The Dark Knight" was the second film in the series of three "Batman" movies directed by Christopher Nolan. Nolan aimed for a darker more realistic Batman character. Christian Bale played Batman and his alter ego Bruce Wayne in all three films in the series. Regarded by many critics as the best film of 2008.
2. The Quiescence of the Ovine Progeniture

Answer: Clarice Starling

Released in 1991, the thriller "The Silence of the Lambs" was a box office success and won five Oscars. The young FBI agent Clarice Starling was played by Jodie Foster. Anthony Hopkins played the cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter opposite her.
3. Marauders of the Disoriented Ship

Answer: Indiana Jones

"Raiders of the Lost Ark" was the first of the Indiana Jones film franchise, released in 1981. It won four Oscars and was followed by another three films in the series. Played by Harrison Ford, Indiana Jones was the lead character, an 'action hero' archaeologist with a trademark whip, fedora hat and leather jacket.
4. The Australian Magician

Answer: Dorothy Gale

Going back to 1939 for this film, we have "The Wizard of Oz". Judy Garland starred as Dorothy who was whisked to Oz when unconscious. Not particularly financially successful when released, it has since become an American icon.
5. The White House

Answer: Rick Blaine

Rick Blaine, played by Humphrey Bogart, was the nightclub owner in the 1942 film "Casablanca". The film received good reviews on initial release but only gradually became an endearing classic. It won three Oscars in 1943.
6. Slayer

7. Heptad Warriors

Answer: Kikuchiyo

The 1954 film "Seven Samurai" was a watershed movie, influencing many subsequent films, for example "The Magnificent Seven" (1960) and "Battle Beyond The Stars" (1980). Played by Toshiro Mifune, Kikuchiyo was the last of the seven samurai to be recruited, although not a samurai.
8. Cheap Lie

"Pulp Fiction" (1994) was a Quentin Tarantino-directed black crime movie with John Travolta playing Vincent Vega alongside Samuel Jackson, Bruce Willis and Uma Thurman. It has been described as an iconic film in a postmodernist style.
9. The Common Respondents

Answer: Roger "Verbal" Kint

Another crime film, Brian Singer's film noir "The Usual Suspects" (1995) got its title from the film "Casablanca" where Captain Louis Renault (played by Claude Rains) used the phrase to save Rick Blaine's life. In "The Usual Suspects", Verbal (played by Kevin Spacey) told the film's story in flashback during an interrogation at a local police office.
10. End Facing the Ultimate

Answer: Marty McFly

Marty McFly, played by Michael J Fox, did some time travelling in the science fiction film "Back to the Future" (1985). It was the first in a trilogy and was the highest-grossing film of the year. The film no doubt gave a boost to the sport of skateboarding as well as popularising the concept of the hoverboard.
