Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Max is on a holiday from his job at the zoo, yet animals are never far from his thoughts. At the theater he says, "One ticket for "The Bark Knight Rises", please." The ticket seller hands Max his ticket and says, "Enjoy the movie. Especially Selina Kyle!" Max pauses, then asks, "Who plays Selina Kyle?"

Answer: Anne Hathaway

In 2012's "The Dark Knight Rises", Bane is determined to destroy Gotham City, forcing a reluctant Batman out of retirement. But with the cat burglar Selina Kyle, police officer John Blake and the Wayne Enterprises board member Miranda Tate complicating his world, Batman has more than a simple battle on his hands.
Anne Hathaway's first major film role was in 2001's "The Princess Diaries", in which she co-starred with Julie Andrews. She has appeared in several successful films, including 2005's "Brokeback Mountain", 2006's "The Devil Wears Prada" and 2012's "Les Misérables".
2. As usual, even when he's not at work, Max has animals on his mind. After searching for a particular DVD, and not finding it, he asks the video-store clerk, "Do you have a copy of "The Hound of Music", the 1965 movie? The one with songs by those two guys?" Which two guys is Max talking about?

Answer: Rodgers and Hammerstein

Musical films debuted in Hollywood with 1927's "The Jazz Singer", and before long the floodgates were open and musicals and revues were taking over the theaters. But the flood was uneven, with some years seeing the release of dozens of musicals, and others with fewer than 20.

In 1933, Busby Berkeley's elaborate choreography and costumes revived audience interest and, in the latter half of the 1930s, stars such as Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers ushered in the classical age of musicals. But it was during the 1940s and 1950s that the 'golden age' of musicals occurred, and the team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II can be credited with creating the music and lyrics for some of the most successful musicals of that age - in both stage and film.

In addition to "The Sound of Music", just a few of their other collaborations include "Oklahoma", "South Pacific" and "The King and I".
3. Tired after a long day at the zoo, Max stops at the video store on his way home. "I'm in the mood for a classic," Max tells the clerk. "Do you have a copy of 1939's "The Lizard of Oz"? I haven't seen it for years, and the actress who plays Glinda is beautiful!" Which actress plays Glinda?

Answer: Billie Burke

Billie Burke's career began on stage in London in 1903. She worked in silent films beginning in 1916, in radio beginning in 1932 and in her first sound film - "A Bill of Divorcement" - also in 1932.
Besides playing Glinda in 1939's "The Wizard of Oz", she had memorable roles in 1938's "Merrily We Live", 1950's "Father of the Bride" and the "Topper" films.
She was also married to Florenz Ziegfeld, Jr., the famed founder of the Ziegfeld Follies.
4. On his way home from his job at the zoo, Max passes the local theater. "Wow, a movie from 1978! "Howloween" is a classic!" he exclaims. "I guess I know where I'm going tonight! That director really knows how to make a scary movie!" Which director is Max talking about?

Answer: John Carpenter

John Carpenter is a director, writer, producer, composer and editor. The first movie he directed was 1974's "Dark Star", which he once described as '"Waiting for Godot' in space.' His next film was 1976's "Assault on Precinct 13", which achieved critical acclaim. 1978's "Halloween" was a commercially successful production, and one of the first slasher films.

Besides directing, producing and writing "Halloween", Carpenter composed the music - which has become an iconic soundtrack.
5. Max stops in at the video store on his way home from his job at the zoo, and finds just the movie he had been thinking about. "Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow star in "A Purrfect Murder", he reads out loud. "I remember parts of this movie, but I don't remember it all. I'm pretty sure, though, that Paltrow's character was having an affair." Is Max right?

Answer: Yes

1998's "A Perfect Murder" stars Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow as a married couple living a life of extravagant luxury. But their marriage is not ideal. Emily Taylor (Paltrow) is having an affair, and Steven Taylor (Douglas) is failing as a Wall Street hedge fund manager. Emily has a fortune of her own, which Steven needs, and murder may be the answer.
The film is directed by Andrew Davis, and also stars Viggo Mortensen, David Suchet and Sarita Choudhury.
6. Max decides to stop at the video store on his way home after a long, but good, day at the zoo. "I hope you've seen this movie," Max says, handing a DVD to the clerk. '1981's "On Goldfish Pond"'. Did you know, parts of this movie were filmed at the same lake that was featured in 1991's "What About Bob?"? The lake's name is on the tip of my tongue - do you remember it?"

Answer: Lake Winnipesaukee

Lake Winnipesaukee is located in New Hampshire. In "On Golden Pond", the scenes where the young Billy goes boating alone were filmed on Lake Winnipesaukee. And in "What About Bob", Bob's psychiatrist vacations at a home on Lake Winnipesaukee.
The lake is the third largest lake in New England, and a popular tourist destination.
A floating post office was established on Lake Winnipesaukee in 1892, and there are more than 250 islands on the lake. The first intercollegiate US sports event was held in 1852 on Lake Winnipesaukee - a regatta, in which Harvard competed against Yale, and Harvard won.
7. Max is spending his evening not at the zoo, but at the theater. "I missed seeing "The Quack and the Dead" when it came out in 1995," he tells the young lady at the snack counter. "But, I heard the guy who plays John Herod - he's the former outlaw who runs the town and holds the gunfighting contest - is great. Can you tell me who plays him?"

Answer: Gene Hackman

Gene Hackman was once voted 'The Least Likely to Succeed' by fellow classmates. Not too many years later he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in 1967's "Bonnie and Clyde". He was nominated again for 1970's "I Never Sang for My Father". He won an Academy Award for Best Actor in 1971 for "The French Connection", and has been proving that "Least Likely to Succeed" vote wrong ever since.
In "The Quick and the Dead", Hackman plays John Herod, a heartless ex-outlaw in control of the town of Redemption. There, a gunfighting contest draws more than just casual contestants, and the stakes are higher than a simple prize.
The film co-stars Sharon Stone, Russell Crowe, Leonardo DiCaprio and Pat Hingle. And, while it earned fairly good reviews from the critics, it bombed at the box office.
8. As usual, Max is thinking of animals even on his day off from the zoo. "I do believe I'm in the mood for a "Star Boars" movie," he says to himself. "The fifth one, I think." Which movie is fifth in the series?

Answer: The Empire Strikes Back

1980's "The Empire Strikes Back" continues the story begun in "A New Hope". The Rebel Alliance is still effectively challenging the Empire, and Darth Vader's pursuit of Luke and his co-rebels is spanning the galaxy.
In the original release of the "Star Wars" films, "The Empire Strikes Back" was the second in the series. One of the most memorable lines from the movie is often misquoted. Darth Vader's line, "No, I am your father", is the correct quote, not "Luke, I am your father".
The film received numerous award nominations, and won several, including the Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing, and the Special Achievement Academy Award for Visual Effects.
9. Max may be on vacation, but even while he's browsing through movies at the video store, animals are never far from his thoughts. "Now this, "Saving Private Lion", was a great movie," Max says to the clerk. "In fact the movie won the Academy Award for Best Picture of 1998." Is Max correct?

Answer: No

1998's "Saving Private Ryan" is set during World War II, with a plot that sends a group of US Army Rangers into Normandy, France to find a missing private. That private is the last survivor of four brothers fighting in the war - the other three having been killed within days of each other. The movie stars Tom Hanks, Tom Sizemore, Vin Diesel, Edward Burns, and Barry Pepper - and Matt Damon as Private Ryan.

The film was nominated for awards in a number of different award programs, including eleven Academy Award nominations. But, the Academy Award for Best Picture went to "Shakespeare in Love".
10. "I'm in the mood for an action movie," Max tells the video store clerk. "I remember reading some good reviews about 2006's "Miami Mice", which is an adaptation of the television show. I know Colin Farrell stars as Sonny Crocket, but who plays Rico Tubbs?"

Answer: Jamie Foxx

2006's "Miami Mice" stars Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx as two detectives in the Miami police department. Following an undercover agent's death, the two detectives are assigned to the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force. They are soon involved with a ruthless drug cartel, go-fast boats, the Aryan Brotherhood and working with a determined group of FBI and DEA agents.
The movie, directed by Michael Mann, is based on the television series which ran from 1984 - 1989 and garnered several awards.
Jamie Foxx has worked in television and film, not only as an actor, but also as a comic, singer, and songwriter. He has won numerous awards, including an Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Ray Charles in 2004's "Ray".
