Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. My ultimate dream woman played Agent Sophie Neveu in a 2006 adaptation of a Dan Brown novel, a book which is now regarded as a modern classic. Who is she?

Answer: Audrey Tautou

Audrey has played many mesmerising roles in her career, probably most successfully in Jean-Pierre Jeunet's 2001 movie "Amélie", where she plays the sweet but mischievous character of the film's title, Amélie Poulain.
The film I was referring to in the question was, of course, the high grossing Tom Hanks vehicle "The Da Vinci Code".
2. Many women have been envious of this next lady, due to the fact that she started dating Johnny Depp in 1999 and has had two children by him. Me, I've always been jealous of Depp himself - I mean, what's he got that I haven't? Except good looks, talent, lots of money and charisma, that is. So, who is this mystery French beauty who moved from music to cinema and proved she could act sublimely in the 1995 film "Elisa"?

Answer: Vanessa Paradis

Vanessa first came to the attention of the mainstream public when she was just 14 years old, achieving a European smash hit with the song "Joe le Taxi". She went on to work with Lenny Kravitz for a while, the pair of them briefly dating, and she won the César Award for Most Promising Actress in 1990 for her performance in Jean-Claude Brisseau's "Noce Blanche" before hooking up with Johnny Depp in 1998.
3. There is one beautiful young French woman who seems to have had a penchant for disrobing in practically every film I've seen her in. Not that I'm complaining admittedly! Her movies include "A Ma Soeur" (aka "Fat Girl") and "Sex Is Comedy". Who is she?

Answer: Roxane Mesquida

Born in 1981, Roxane was just 13 years old when she got her breakthrough, when film director Manuel Pradal discovered her walking along the road. Evidently they don't show those "Never talk to strangers" videos to schoolkids in France! Luckily for her, Pradal was genuine and she went on to star in a number of cult independent flicks in which she often made my eyes bulge out cartoon style.
4. Which French stunner played Princess Isabelle in "Braveheart", a Bond girl called Elektra in "The World Is Not Enough" and Anna Karenina in the movie of the same name?

Answer: Sophie Marceau

Throughout her illustrious career, Marceau has appeared in many high grossing movies, turned her hand to singing in 1986 with an album called "Centitude" and was even chosen as "Ambassador of Charm for France" in East Asia. Whatever that means.
5. "Harry Potter" actress Emma Watson was born in France.

Answer: True

Young Ms. Watson was born in Paris in April 1990 and was the initial choice to play the mischievous "Amélie" in the film of the same name. She dropped out, and I'm eternally grateful to her for that, because that gave me my first choice to witness the delectable Audrey Tautou's talents instead.
6. This lady played Claire Phelps in Brian De Palma's 1996 update of "Mission: Impossible" and spent rather a long time parading around in her birthday suit in "La Belle Noiseuse" five years before this. Who is she?

Answer: Emmanuelle Béart

Emmanuelle is the daughter of Egyptian born French singer and poet Guy Béart and the less well known actress Geneviève Galéa. She was brought up in a small, remote village amongst the mountains but left for Montreal when she was a teenager, where she met the late Robert Altman and nurtured her desire to act.
7. Another gorgeous French actress is somebody who started out in commercials at the age of two. She became a child star, appearing in "Les Exploits d'un jeune Don Juan" and is perhaps best known for her role as Françoise in Danny Boyle's 2000 drama "The Beach". Who is she?

Answer: Virginie Ledoyen

Virginie was born in 1974 with the surname Fernandez, but adopted her grandmother's maiden name of Ledoyen as the elder woman had herself been a stage actress. Whilst she is best remembered for "The Beach", she was also the face of L'Oreal between 2000 and 2005.
8. Born in Paris in 1969, this delectable lady has appeared in some very well known and well respected films such as Krzysztof Kieslowski's "Three Colours" series, Roger Avery's cult 1994 flick "Killing Zoe" and the 2005 Bill Murray vehicle "Broken Flowers" amongst others. Who is she?

Answer: Julie Delpy

Julie is the daughter of veteran acting couple Albert Delpy and Marie Pillet. Other than her film career, she has a love for music and released her own eponymously titled album in 2003.
9. Who played Mary, Queen of Scots in a BBC television mini-series called "Gunpowder, Treason & Plot" in 2004?

Answer: Clémence Poésy

No doubt viewers will remember Poésy most for playing Fleur Delacour in the 2005 film "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". She was born Clémence Guichard in November 1982 but opted to use her mother's maiden name as her stage name after choosing her career path at age 14.
10. Which lass is the daughter of a late French singer and his estranged English actress wife, who reached the UK number one slot with a highly controversial single two years before she was born?

Answer: Charlotte Gainsbourg

The single, of course, was "Je Taime...Moi Non Plus" by Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg, which topped the UK singles chart towards the end of 1969.

Charlotte has appeared in over 30 films throughout her career, amongst them the hugely successful "21 Grams", "The Cement Garden", "Jane Eyre" and the highly rated, bizarre 2006 fantasy movie "The Science of Sleep".

She also has the honour of being Yul Brynner's goddaughter.
