90s Double Trouble and more (Part 1) Quiz

My first quiz!... Since Top 40 music is my favourite category, this quiz is about different 90s songs with the same title. For example, the title "Someday" was a hit song for Mariah Carey (1991) and Sugar Ray (1999). This should be quite easy. Enjoy!

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The title "Hold On" was a 90s hit single for all of the following artists except...

Answer: Bel Biv DeVoe

In 1990, both Wilson Phillips and En Vogue had the same title for their debut hit single from the albums "Wilson Phillips" and "Born To Sing" respectively. Actor and singer Jamie Walters (from "The Heights") had the hit single "Hold On" from his self-titled debut album in 1995.
2. In 1992, Amy Grant had a hit titled "I Will Remember You". Which other artist had a hit with the same title in the 1990s as well?

Answer: Sarah McLachlan

Sarah McLachlan's song "I Will Remember You" was first featured on the soundtrack of the movie "The Brothers McMullen" back in 1995. It wasn't a big hit until 1999 when the live version of the song was released from the live-album "Mirrorball". Madonna, on the other hand, had a hit with a slightly different title "I'll Remember" from the movie "With Honors" in 1994.
3. The title "Pray' was a hit single for MC Hammer in the US back in the year 1990. Which of the following artists also had a hit with the same title in 1993, but over the other side of the Atlantic (UK particularly)?

Answer: Take That

"Pray" was Take That's first single from their second album "Everything Changes" and it was a number One hit in the UK in 1993. Take That had a large following in the UK and many parts of Europe in the 1990s prior to the band's break up in 1996.
4. The British all-girl group Eternal had a US hit single in 1994 entitled "Stay". That same year, Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories also had a hit single of the same name from the soundtrack of "Reality Bites". What was the subtitle for Lisa Loeb's hit?

Answer: I Missed You

"Stay (I Missed You)" was Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories' first US Billboard Hot 100 Singles number One song and is also available in their 1995 album "Tails".
5. The group Escape Club had a huge hit in 1991 entitled "I'll Be There". The following year, the remake of a 1970 Jackson 5 hit with the same title became a humongous hit. Which of the following artists did the remake?

Answer: Mariah Carey featuring Trey Lorenz

Mariah's remake of Jackson 5's "I'll Be There" was from her 1992 "MTV Unplugged" album. Michael and Janet Jackson dueted on "Scream" in 1995. Luther Vandross and Janet Jackson feat. BBD & Ralph Tresvant sang "The Best Things In Life Are Free" from the "Mo' Money" soundtrack in 1992 while Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston sang together in the song "When You Believe" from "The Prince of Egypt" soundtrack in 1998.
6. In 1994, Gloria Estefan had a hit entitled "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me" from her album with the same title. Then the following year, U2 repeated those words and added two more to form the title of their hit single. What were those two words?

Answer: Kill Me

"Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" by U2 was featured in the soundtrack of "Batman Forever" in 1995.
7. Gun N' Roses told us "Don't Cry" in 1991. Who told us to do the same in 1996?

Answer: Seal

The song "Don't Cry" by Seal was taken from his 1994 self-titled album. Interestingly enough, he had three different self-titled albums; the first was released in 1991, the second in 1994 and the third in 2003.
8. SWV had a hit in 1998 entitled "Someone". Which other group had a hit of the same title in the early 90s?

Answer: The Rembrandts

The Rembrandts had minor Billboard hits with "Just The Way It Is, Baby" and "Someone", in the early 90s before the theme song from the sitcom "Friends" that we all remember, "I'll Be There For You" made them famous!
9. New Kids On The Block had a major hit in 1990 titled "Step By Step". Another major artist had a minor hit (compared to her many number Ones) later in that decade with the same title. Who was it?

Answer: Whitney Houston

"Step By Step" was a hit single from the soundtrack of "The Preacher's Wife", a movie in which Whitney herself starred. The song was penned by Annie Lennox who also provides the backing vocals. Incidently, Annie Lennox is my all time favourite artist!
10. Deviating from the "same title" theme just a little bit: Peter Cetera had a hit on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles in 1993, the title of which is also the name of a country music band that had a hit "When She Cries" on the very same charts, at about the same time. What was title / band?

Answer: Restless Heart

The country music band Restless Heart had a big country crossover hit with "When She Cries" in 1993. It entered the US Top 40 charts just as Peter Cetera's hit "Restless Heart" (from the album "World Falling Down") was dropping out of the Top 40.
