Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "A'Rebours", is track 3 on "Down in Albion". It is also almost the title of a work by which French writer?

Answer: Huysmans

"Au'Rebours", published in 1884 was Huysman's most famous novel and is arguably the most famous example of "decadent" literature. The title means "Against Nature" or "Against The Grain".
2. Which of these can't be found in the lyrics of "Albion"?

Answer: Scratchcards, pimples ecstasy

"Scratchcards, pimples and ecstasy" can, however, be found in The Libertine's song "Hooray for the 21st century"
3. According to Babyshambles (and most geographers) "It's a long, long way from Bollywood" to which area of London?

Answer: Battersea

"Bollywood to Battersea" was recorded on "Help: A Day In The Life" cd which was released in 2005. All proceeds from this cd go towards War Child which is an agency devoted to helping children affected by war.
4. Which Babyshambles song shares its name with a James Dean film?

Answer: East of Eden

Dean recieved an Oscar nomination for his role in "East of Eden". It was the first posthumous nomination in Academy Awards history.
5. The lyrics to Babyshambles "East of Eden" refer to "the filth and the fury". What other English band featured in a documentary called "The Filth and The Fury?"

Answer: The Sex Pistols

"The Filth and The Fury" was released in 2000 and was directed by Julien Temple, who in 2006 also directed the videos for the Babyshambles songs "The Blinding" and "I Love You But You're Green"
6. In the song whose name I won't mention (but they'll never play it on the radio) what is not mentioned as something Peter can't see the difference between?

Answer: Literature and a tabloid story

British artist/anachist, Jamie Reid used this slogan extensively. He is best known for his cover artwork related to various Sex Pistols records.
7. "Gang of Gin" is probably one of my favourite Babyshambles songs. Unfortunately, it will most likely never be publicly released (even though it is freely available on the internet for fans to download). Why?

Answer: Threats of legal action

"Gang of Gin" is Peter's somewhat bitter reflection on how he was kicked out of The Libertines. It contains a few barbs directed to Alan McGee who was the manager of The Libertines. McGee threatened to sue if the song was released.
8. "Oh you, you're green, you don't know what love is; it tickles you pink but oh yeah it likes to hear you scream" What famous novel were these lyrics possibly inspired by?

Answer: Brighton Rock

Graham Greene wrote "Brighton Rock". The main character, Pinkie, calls his girlfriend "green" meaning innocent. Incidentally, also mentioned in "Brighton Rock" is a "pale thin girl". Peter has used this phrase in at least 2 songs.
9. Babyshambles do a lot of work for charities. We have already mentioned their contribution to the War Child project. They are also very active in the Love Music, Hate Racism project. Another charity endeavour that was recently supported by Babyshambles was The Strummerville Project which is a foundation set up by the family and friends of Joe Strummer for musicians who otherwise would not be able to afford to produce music. What song by The Clash did Babyshambles record for Strummerville?

Answer: Janie Jones

Peter did not appear in the video for "Janie Jones" because he was in rehab when it was filmed. Drew from Babyshambles appears as an usher and Mick as a car window washer. I can't recall seeing Adam but I am willing to be corrected!
10. What former member of The Libertines rejoined forces with Peter Doherty to sing on the Babyshambles and Friends version of "Janie Jones?"

Answer: Carl Barat

Carl and Pete never actually met during the recording of "Janie Jones".
