Answer: Rock

The two members' taste in music was completely different. Patrick's tastes leaned toward Devo, noise rock, and hip-hop, while Dan, who had grown up playing old folk songs at family reunions, gravitated towards electric Mississippi blues. Their different tastes met in a combination of blues and rock.
2. How many band members are there?

Answer: Two

The band consist of Patrick Carney on drums, and Daniel Auerbach on guitar and vocals. The Black Keys duo was created by chance. Dan had booked recording time for him and his current band in Patrick's basement recording studio. When Dan's group didn't show, Patrick and Dan started jamming together and recorded their first demo.
3. All the members of the band are college dropouts.

Answer: True

Both of them made a living mowing lawns and whacking weeds for a slumlord after they dropped out of college. They ended up getting fired for not edging a lawn correctly.
4. Where are the band members from?

Answer: The U.S.

Dan and Patrick are both from Akron, Ohio. They've known each other since they were kids.
5. How did The Black Keys come up with their name?

Answer: A schizophrenic artist used to call them "black keys".

One of their friends, a schizophrenic artist, used to call people he thought weren't quite right "black keys". The band chose the name in honor of him.
6. What was the name of their first album, released in 2002?

Answer: The Big Come Up

The name of the album came about from securing a record deal, and dreams about being able to now leave their lawn mowing days behind. However, they got fired from their jobs before they had even started their first tour.
7. Which magazine named The Black Keys one of the ten best acts of 2003?

Answer: Time

"Time" magazine listed them behind both The White Stripes and OutKast. Their debut album was praised by "Rolling Stone" magazine.

Answer: Magic Potion

They had released "The Big Come Up", "Thickfreakness", "Rubber Factory", and "Chulahoma - The Songs of Junior Kimbrough" previous to "Magic Potion". They also released a single titled "The Moan" in 2004.

Answer: True

Their song "Set You Free" is included in the soundtrack from "School of Rock". The song can be heard then Jack Black takes Joan Cusack to a bar for coffee. Their song "When the Lights Go Out" is included in the soundtrack from "Black Snake Moan".
10. What famous companies used their song "Girl is on My Mind" in one of their commercials?

Answer: Sony Ericsson and Victoria's Secret

"Girl is on My Mind" was used in the 2006 Sony Ericsson ad featuring the tennis players Ana Ivanovic and Daniela Hantuchova. Victoria's Secret used it in a steamy commercial featuring Heidi Klum. Lee's Jeans used another one of their songs, "Your Touch", in one of their commercials.
