Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these artists is from the U.S.A.?

Answer: Philmore

Tree63 is from South Africa, deliriou5? is from the UK, and the LADS are from New Zealand.
2. "The things we often say, they may seem okay when the possibilities are right there staring you down. No matter who you are, it's what you've done so far, it's your responsiblity, our choices make us who we are! Where do we draw the line to say, wrong is wrong and nothing stands between? When did they take the line away? 'Cause wrong is wrong, and nothing stands between!" Who sang these song lyrics prior to October 2002?

Answer: Hangnail

Great song! The guys from Hangnail help us realize that that there ARE moral absolutes...their message is "don't worry about being accused as 'intolerant.'" Hangnail's got a bunch of really great songs on two albums: 'Facing Changes" and their self-title.
3. "She sees love where anyone else would see weeds." What is the name of the song these lyrics are from?

Answer: Dandelions

A beautiful song by Five Iron Frenzy on the CD entitled "All The Hype That Money Can Buy." This song first talks about a little boy running to bring his mother a bunch of dandelions, then compares it to a person giving Jesus his heart. Great song...check out FIF if you can.
4. Which band, in the year 2002, did a punk style version of VeggieTales' "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything"?

Answer: relient K

That's an awesome version. It's in the VeggieTales movie "Jonah" which is a feature-length movie currently (October 2002) in theaters. I just saw relient K in concert and they really rocked! Before each song, they gave a bit of a background on why they wrote the song, how it applies to us, etc.

It was challenging for me as well as being a great time! Right now they are on tour with Bleach, Philmore and Holland.
5. "So here at the end of this day, where the world is shaded in gray, I will look to the blue horizons and watch for you to come. When my hope is tattered and torn, when my faith is weathered and worn, I'll look to the blue horizons." Who sang these lyrics prior to October 2002?

Answer: 38th Parallel

This is an awesome, hope-filled song. It's called "Blue Horizons," from 38th Parallel's debut CD, "Turn The Tides" (2002). You'll like this CD if you like a hard sound with some occasional rap thrown in...not many groups successfully get that blend, but these guys definitely have the idea! :)
6. Which of these albums was the first release by Third Day?

Answer: "Third Day"

Third Day's self-title came out in 1996. Their music is a unique blend of rock and a southern, almost (heaven forbid) country twang. "Southern Tracks" (1999) is now no longer in print. I've never heard anything from that particular album, but I am definitely curious!
7. As of October 2002, what is the name of the lead singer of the band Switchfoot?

Answer: Jon Foreman

Corey Cooper is the keyboarder for Skillet, Mac Powell is lead vocals for Third Day, and Toby Mac is a singer in the band dcTalk.
8. In dcTalk, what does the D.C. stand for?

Answer: decent christian

Someone once told me it stood for DC as in Washington, DC. I mean, that's cool and everything, but supposedly, they put it there just because they started the band there. I was somewhat relieved to find out it meant a little something more! "Decent Christian Talk" was a more appropriate name for the group 'way back when' however, when almost all of their music actually was 'talk' or rap.
9. What is the last word in POD's song, "Alive"?

Answer: fly

"Sunshine upon my face, a new song for me to sing. Tell the world how I feel inside, even though it might cost me everything. And now that I know, it's so beyond my control, it's like I can never turn my back away. Now that I see You, I can never look away. I, I feel so alive, for the very first time...and I think I can fly...and I think I can fly...and I think I can fly!" P.O.D. stands for Payable On Death. They're a really hardcore/rap band whose music has received a lot of airtime, as well as a lot of chart-toppers, on secular stations. Way to go, guys!
10. The first album from Lifehouse was called "No Name Face." What is the name of their second one?

Answer: Stanley Climbfall

It was released on September 17th, 2002. One of the songs from it is called "Spin." Lifehouse have been a 'somewhat' Christian band up until now, but I believe they have signed with Sparrow Records, a Christian music label, for their next album.
11. "What ever happened to playing in the mud, little kids buildin' castles all they understand, thinkin' but not too much about the box where they sat was their world and all was in it was good. Playin' all day 'till the street light came on, and momma call you home for spaghetti and meat balls, say a little prayer and a bath good night. Life so simple return to the next days, it was back to that sandbox praise." Who sang these lyrics in prior to October 2002?

Answer: PAX217

A cute song about how life used to be so simple. PAX217 really impresses me with their unique blend of harmonious lyrics and hard/rapcore music. They also don't compromise their faith with obscure, vague or wishy-washy "feel-good" words. This song is off their "Prism" CD.
12. "Here we come, it's our season. I swear that it's true, but it takes more than what we are. Faith in more than what we are to shine, to shine, it's our time, it's now or never! We want today, we want yesterday, we are tomorrow!" Who sang these lyrics prior to October 2002?

Answer: Bleach

This song, called "We Are Tomorrow," is from their CD, "Again, For the First Time" (2002). It's about having faith in God, and not dwelling on past mistakes, because we are the leaders of tomorrow.
13. "Once I read a book, and this is what it said: 'if your music has a beat, then you're gonna wind up dead.'...so I took my two houseplants, and put them to the test, set 'em both in front of speakers to let the music do the rest. I powered up my Pioneers to let the music roar, but twenty minutes later, someone's knockin' at my door! I opened up my door, and there my neighbor stood. He said, 'man, I'd like to get some sleep, if you think I could.' I said, 'man, can't you see here, I've got a moral dilemma that I have got to get clear.' He said, 'what kind of moral dilemma could you have at this time of night that could make me so angry that I just want to fight?!'" Who sang this song prior to October 2002?

Answer: Audio Adrenaline

This is a really funny song from Audio Adrenaline called "The Houseplant Song." Definitely listen to it if you get the chance. I won't spoil the funny ending for you! It's on their "Underdog" CD.
14. Which of these songs was sung...or rapped...by John Reuben?

Answer: Do Not

"Do not tell me what I can and cannot do when I rock!" this cool song is from John, telling the listeners that he's not going to conform. He says, "So let me tell his shallow mind why we do what we do. I create for my Creator and not to impress you... Why is it as humans we cling on to only what we've known, never expanding and stepping outta that comfort zone?" You guys really need to check out this song, as well as the rest of John's music. Rappers have that unique ability to pack a lot of words and a lot of meaning in a relatively short song!
15. "Here's a chance to show you how I feel, a chance for you to see its real. To see just what I feel inside and who it is that's by my side. I will never change my mind...Try to torch me and you'll find, you can't turn me or deter me, no matter how you try, you can't burn me..." Who sang this song prior to October 2002?

Answer: Pillar

This song is called "Fireproof" and it's a great song with a very bold message. If you like the hardcore/rap style but want lyrics with a hopeful message, check out Pillar and their two CDs: "Fireproof" (2002) and "Above" (2000).
