The song was "Misery" from The Beatles' 1963 album "Please Please Me". In 1963 The Beatles were on tour supporting singer Helen Shapiro. John Lennon and Paul McCartney approached her A&R man, the producer Norrie Paramor and offered him the song for Helen Shapiro to record. Paramor turned them down without even telling Shapiro about the song.

Kenny Lynch, who was on the same show, recorded the song and became the first singer to record a Lennon/McCartney song. Unfortunately for Kenny it failed to chart.

Conteh was awarded an MBE for services to boxing at the Queen's Birthday Honours in 2017.

He stood in a 1973 by-election which he won, becoming the Liberal Member of Parliament for the Isle of Ely. He was knighted upon leaving parliament in 1987.
